Title: R.I.P. Frank Frazetta
Post by: mgriffin on May 10, 2010, 03:59:06 PM
The all-time great artist of the fantastic, Frank Frazetta, died today at 82.  At his peak there was nobody close, and he inspired a huge number of imitators and totally changed the face of fantasy art.

Not too long ago, Lena and I watched a documentary about the guy, and he'd been unwell for a number of years.  That documentary is worth getting from Netflix, by the way.

That sucks.  I was a huge fan of his back in high school (along with Boris Vallejo and Richard Corben) - he was the master.  I had two friends who could do pencil drawings that mimicked his style to a T; he was a hero for all three of us.

I had no idea there was a movie about him; this I gotta see.

Wow! That's sad. I remember getting into Frazetta in the '70's with his Conan paperback covers. I then started finding a lot of other art by him. It was such amazing fantasy art. I need to find my Frazetta art book. I haven't looked at it in quite some time. RIP Frank.
