Official press text:

In the beginning it looked like an ordinary storm...

After three years of intense work, Dark Ambient disciple False Mirror returns with his third full-length journey, aptly entitled "Derelict World".
With the timeless drones of his debut "Chronostatic Scenes" and the icy soundscapes on his highly acclaimed sophomore masterpiece "North" still resonating through space, solo artist Tobias Hornberger delivers "Derelict World", his most massive and epic undertaking so far.
As its two brooding predecessors, also his third work of masterfully crafted Ambient has become a monumental alliance of dark drones, frostbitten soundscapes and warm vibrating tones from the deep bowels of the earth.
Famous for his skilled use of field recordings from an extrem ely diversified range (some of the recordings stem from an old monastery, the medieval city of Ulm or the Arabian sea) and for his ability to cloak the superior forces of nature into menacing, yet beautifully devised sounds, "Derelict World" also offers a truly apocalyptic concept that blends perfectly with the dense wall of sound on this mysterious Ambient challenge: Nothing less than the end of humanity, brought upon this world by the relentless forces of nature forms the basis on which the resonating and thundering tracks develop into chimaeras of terrible momentum, ever-changing and ever-increasing their dramatic potential.
Devised with sophisticated software he solely created for composing this album, False Mirror easily evokes elemental feelings like sublimity, fear or trepidation - culminating in an impending sense of doom that never leaves the listener and brings to life the destructive side of nature that surrounds us every day.
From the sheer force of a tornado set loose to the beguiling calm within the eye of the storm, "Derelict World" is a 74 minute long sonic journey into a desolated, depopulated world.
A 20 page booklet with a conceptually linked short story written by author and journalist Bjørn Springorum accompanies the release. The album is moreover equipped with a number of hidden messages that lead to a rewarding "Bonus World" on falsemirror.de.

... and the rest was silence.

New release looks real good.
Was wondering if there is also a download for sale, or only the CD ?

Yet I recommend the CD version because of
1.) The booklet & artwork
2.) The short story inside the booklet
3.) The hidden messages that will lead to the "bonus world"

Cheers

This is how you make a CD guys. Artwork is stunning, the digipak is beautiful and glossy. The booklet is very nice and the story is interesting (while you can tell that it was not written by a native speaker it still works). I've only listened to the CD once so I can't judge just yet but I really enjoyed it so far. This is a complete work of art. It reminds me why I still buy CDs.

Thank you!

Highly recommend this to all.  One of my best of 2010 picks (see thread).

About the bonus for clever fans...I am dumb as a box of rocks so I may need help uncovering it.  Might it have something to do with the cryptic coded message on back of the booklet?

Yes, I can only agree with Vlad, "Derelict World" is a true piece of art, both musically and visually, collector's dream!!! Tobias, thank you so much for this journey and my best congratulations to you as well as to all others involved in making this exciting release. Easily gets to my Best of 2010 list too. And I hope to solve the quest one day...

My apologies for the non-specific "review" in my last post.  This is what makes this album great, IMO:

As I saw in one of the reviews, it is true the music is not as dark and aggressive as other Malignant albums or other "typical" dark ambient albums.  It's very shadowy, ethereal and tranquil, which is why I mentioned the Robert Rich/Oophoi connection.  Another reviewer mentioned Mathias Grassow.  Again, a good comparison.  Grassow fans will love the floating immersive atmospheres and organic feel.  The artist, however, has his own distinct sound from the others and mention of them serves as merely a signpost for newer listeners.  One reviewer said it might benefit from vocals or melodies(??) Sorry, this isn't a pop album.  If you don't like immersive ambient drone music, please move on, there is something wrong with you! ;-)

I thought the production and mastering here was FANTASTIC and highly above average, and it's evident great care was put into the overall sound quality of this project.

As mentioned by everyone else, artwork and packaging is superb, from the glossy digipak design to the extensive booklet.  I liked the discussion of each track about recording techniques.  Nice! A+ 10/10 *****

As it's Christmas, I've given out the second set of hints for the quest game. Everyone should be able to solve it now http://www.falsemirror.de/posting74
Happy Christmas everyone!

This release looks lovely. I just ordered this along with North. I loved Chronostatic Scenes and I didn't even know you had released another album. Now I get to receive both at the same time  ;D
I am very curious as to this other world but also a little worried that I am not smart enough to discover it :(
