Title: "Remodel With Swan Parts" published today
Post by: mgriffin on May 31, 2011, 04:09:00 PM
I already posted about this on Facebook, so many Hypnos Forum regulars have already seen this, but here's my "brag" for those of you who missed it.

A science fiction short story of mine was published today at a science fiction, fantasy and horror webzine called Electric Spec. The story is "Remodel With Swan Parts," and it's available here:

http://www.electricspec.com/issues/volume-6-issue-2-may-31-2011/remodel-with-swan-parts-by-michael-griffin.asp (http://www.electricspec.com/issues/volume-6-issue-2-may-31-2011/remodel-with-swan-parts-by-michael-griffin.asp)

Of my story, the editors of Electric Spec say:
And for those of you who are wondering just how far the trend of botox and boob jobs will go, check out "Remodel with Swan Parts" by Michael Griffin. Safe to say, the trend ain't pretty.

Thanks for the comments, notes and pats on the back delivered via Facebook today.

Way to go Mike....
that was a great story......hope to see many more stories from you in the future:)...

BTW..I have to ask, how do you juggle music and writing at the same time???
for me to concentrate on my writing, I had to put my music on the back burner for now ....
you sir, are an awesome man...

Very nice!  I love it when "a current trend" takes an unfortunate turn!  8)

Thanks Darren!

I really don't juggle music and writing at the same time. I have separate times set aside for each. And as far as "music," there's the music-related activities of running Hypnos, which I've been keeping up on as usual, and the music-related activities of making my own new recordings, which I've basically put on the back burner too, for a while.

A thought provoking story. Since writers usually write from what they know,
I'm already curious to see Lena's next avatar photo.      :o

I used a bit of artistic license. Lena's had no more than 5 major surgeries in the past year.  ;)

Thanks, John. That might be the most cockeyed smileys I've ever been awarded!

That surgery really did a number on your nose, John.

Thanks, guys.

I was just telling John that even though I've grown accustomed to sending my music-related projects out into the world, it's a new experience to put my writing out there. I've actually been writing most of my life, while music-making is a newer thing for me, so this is fun.

File this under " you know you're getting older when " ... you say you're newer at releasing music and you launched an amazing ambient label 15 years ago... ;-)

And yeah - I've been playing piano for over 35 years now...  it's weird when you switch from "years ago" to "decades ago"!!!

Thanks, John -- I appreciate the signal boost.

I haven't been writing my entire life. I dropped it for the first three years of college, then there was a fifteen year gap starting around the time I started Hypnos.

In my teens I wanted to be Harlan Ellison or Stephen King, and in my twenties I wanted to be F. Scott Fitzgerald or Ernest Hemingway. Now I'm not sure who I want to be!

I'll go over to RM and take a look. Thanks again.

Cynthia = Synthetic? Synthesizer?

Interesting story Michael. Kind of creepy.

I went over to RM and tried to log in and it seemed to indicate that I didn't have an account -- though I know I did. So I created a new account, and it had all my old "friends" from the old account. Wacky old Ning.

Jesse, you're the first person to comment on her name. In earlier drafts (this story literally went through at least two dozen revisions) she was called "Cynth" about half the time. I decided that was too "on the nose" and drew it back a bit.

ok all your life was a stretch.

I found the story to have a bit of a dark twist to it and I liked it.  A couple of things made me squirm a bit - but yet again - I liked how it built up.  I hadn't seen what Electric Spec had written about it until afterwards - and that really perfectly fits...

It also evokes Cygnet (a young swan).    8)
