Im really enjoying the Blofeld, and it's not too terribly complicated to program with knobs, but it doesnt seem liek the sort of thing that you'd want to bust out at an airport. I think your idea of the Ipad had merit. I use mine to sketch all the time. Not that any of the audio tools for it are AMAZING, but for the purposes of notation and getting some slightly tweakable stuff, its fine. Also obviously it doesn't do output terribly well either.
