Smile on the Void was one of a few CDs that inspired me to begin recording.  I am grateful that Barry was able to share his gift with the world.

This is very sad news, indeed.

Music Gearheads Tech Talk / FS: Kurzweil PC3
« on: May 01, 2011, 12:34:24 PM »
Hi all,

I am selling a very lightly used Kurzweil 76-key synth on eBay for a very low starting price.  The synth works perfectly, and I am only selling it to help fund a home-improvement project that cannot be put off any longer.  Here is the link to the auction.  Thanks for your consideration!

By the way, I sold some gear on eBay a year or so ago, and the transaction went very smoothly.

Mike, why don't you feel that eBay is trustworthy?  (Just curious).

Depeche Mode "Sounds of the Universe"

Like many enthusiasts of this surpassingly talented group, I have been mildly disappointed with new releases since the departure of Alan Wilder, and this new release doesn't do much for me (although I highly applaud the return to raw analogue synth sounds, etc.).  I genuinely like several songs, but I cannot get over the fact that I miss the captivating hooks and brooding "gothic" themes of albums past (peaking with "Violator").  Complacency sucks rocks!

I mostly listen to the ambient genres closest to our hearts here at the Hypnos forum and have been lackadaisical in reporting playlists.

Cheers,

chad

Short update:  I just checked the outlet into which the monitors were plugged, and it does appear to be grounded.

Anyway, this was an unfortunate event, but my ADAM a7 monitors arrived today, so I am happy.   :)

Everything and Nothing / Ungrounded outlets and equipment safety

Hi all,

After our move last year, I rebuilt my studio in a room with outlets that do not register as grounded on my surge suppressors.  I have read conflicting reports about the dangers associated with ungrounded outlets and equipment safety, and I wanted to collect your thoughts on this.

I recently had a nearfield monitor burn out on me.  Literally (nasty burnt smell and everything).  However, this was preceded by an accident with a software synth that resulted in a horribly loud and strident sound for a minute or so before I got things under control.  The problems with the monitor began after that, and it died the following day.  I've had no problems with other equipment plugged into this outlet/surge suppressor.

Thanks!
