Computers, Internet and Technology / Amazon Fire TV Stick

Anyone pre-order it? I ordered two. One for myself and the other for my girlfriend. Since we both have Prime it's a quicker way to watch it vs having to fire up other components and couldn't beat the initial price offering. Basically 2 for the price of one. Unfortunately that was only for 2 days which has since passed. Looking forward to playing with it once it arrives. Still on the fence about a Roku 3. Not sure if they've got a Roku 4 in the wings either....

It came about after electronicscene.com went down if I recall correctly. Same guy started that site up. Initially was mostly electronic music related, but some time later it opened up to other genres. Too bad it went down as that was one of the few sites I have my music up on. Soundclick, bandcamp, reverbnation are the 3 that are currently active. I may look for another site that caters to electronic music  in the same respect *or* stick with Bandcamp/Reverbnation. I just don't want to be paying for multiple sites if I can help it. I see one increased the size of the tracks but have to check my mail on who it was (recently announced in email to me).

well, halloween is in full swing in GW2 since tuesday. I believe it goes till 11/4 when the living story season 2 picks back up. I don't like the way they changed gems->gold and vice versa but hear it is going back to normal. ATM you can't set the number of gems to sell for gold - bullshit move imho. TONS of candy corn (need 6k to get 6 corn cobs to get a mini bloody prince or carlotta spider, other one zuzu cat of darkness is 12 cobs/12k candy corns - I got it in a drop so just picked up other 2 via candy corns!.

Insane amount of crap from trick or treat bags from kills in the labyrinth. The LICH is a royal PITA that I want to get completed for meta (meta is done but more pts towards achievement chests). MAJOR degen from it and retaliation from other mobs off/on make it a hard one to complete. Oh, then we have the labyrinth horror (giant skeleton with a frickin chainsaw!) that pops from some of the doors...be careful which one you open! AND don't pop more than one at a time (legendary candy corn boss has a 2nd door right next to it). I have only been into the mad kings clock tower jumping puzzle, still sucks! Not sure if I'll work on it before it ends. And only need 4 more rounds in the inquisition to get that meta done.

I think due to the shorter time period is why there's so much stuff dropping (trick or treat bags give a lot of different stuff, like up to 10 or so different things). Certainly a time waster if you are bored and wanna grind for bags/candy corn! Get yer tuckus in there and raise some hell!

No, I guess what I was saying is that neither Chromecast nor Roku would seem to be much use if you don't want to watch streaming video, since that's pretty much all they do.

Chromecast from what I understand slings it to your TV from a PC - not what I am interested in. Roku though has a bunch of stuff on it (I am looking for free worthwhile stuff on it) to put out to my TV since it isn't *smart*. Cheap enough investment and I already have Prime from Amazon via my PS3 so I can watch whatever I feel like when bored with TV or just for something different. I know Roku has a bunch of channels (some not for kiddies). Anyone check out I think a horror movie streaming channel on it? Be interested to see if there's anything cult or worth while in that respect (and/or sci-fi/anime/fantasy channels).

Hi Mike,

So you think a Roku 3 would be a better investment for the time being? If/when I replace my tube HDTV in the bedroom the 47" LG will probably migrate to that room (and Roku with it but that would mean running it via WiFi or routing yet another cable through the walls....not looking for that....) and get a little bit larger one for the living room.

Everything and Nothing / Artistserver.com apparently shut/shutting down
« on: October 09, 2014, 11:19:59 AM »
I have been on that site since pretty much Gideon (Electronicscene.com days) started it up. Apparently this is something to do with revenue (I was paying $40/year for past handful or more there) and I got no email stating this was happening/happened. Rather disappointed with that as I was on the site in the past couple of months or so and saw nothing on it stating it was shutting down.

Anyone have information link it in here as I'd like to find out what happened.

Hi,

Been using Live off/on since version 3.04. The markers are the warp markers that Live tries to set up for the transients in the clip (to what someone was saying about all these markers in the clip/sample).  I also have Studio One V2 but haven't done a lot with it since buy it 1/2 off a couple/few years ago. I like its window setup (similar to Live's). Session View is where you can create your clips/samples and mess with them and set things up as scenes (row across screen = scene which you trigger from right side of screen) and the follow-on actions (look into that as it's kind of cool). You can drag clips from Session to Arrangement via click/holding and drag to the buttons on right side or hit Tab and then drop into your track. Each corresponding track in session will record to its same track # in arrangement view as an FYI if you haven't found that (probably have).

The instrument (Live's) integration is great. VSTi handling is decent (could be better with some manufacturers, NI for one). The slice to MIDI stuff is sweet (read up in the manual, there's a couple directories for setting up default Impulse and Sampler if I recall as well).  I just have to get off my lazy ass and get back working on music....

Free WEEK of Guild Wars 2. Go to the site and register and then you'll be able to play. My contact info is metalmike.8347 I think. Let me know your char name if you decide to try it out in this thread and rough times you'd be on (PST/EST) so I can know when to look for you.

Antdude, pm or email in game at metalmike.8346 or one of my characters (Pain/Siren/Scary/Cutey/Tinkerer/Quickshot/Terror/Madness/Sneaky (first name) Kometh (last name)). In a small guild (34 people, usually 4-6 of us on as the main folks) and my guild leader is someone I've known from GW1 days lol. We do Edge of the Mists, Fractals (pain in the ...), Dungeons, WvW, PvE stuff together a lot. I been mapping Terror Kometh lately to get her closer to 100%. My ranger has a poi and vista to get for 100%. Ele done. Rest are all 9x % to full map completion.

The feature pack is introducing some stuff, class balancing (ranger getting some decent love finally for that) and other things. The MegaServer made is a lot easier to find people of same language/world/guild on any map (some concept they put into the game a while ago) which I thought was cool.

The amount of content they produce for an MMO-style game without a sub fee is kinda crazy. Do they have microtransactions in the game? If so, that would explain where they're getting their money.

They have a trading post. You can buy mats, armor, weapons, trinkets, sell stuff (certain things, not all). You can purchase gems which is what you use to get stuff like repair cannisters, mining items (pick/axe/sickle when they have promotions on those items), skins (change look of your armor), minis (mini versions of creatures/npc's) that follow you around, etc...check the main GW2 site as it goes into detail about a lot of this stuff. I've dropped a fair bit of cash due to them changing the # of nodes of 2 T6 materials (ancient saplings and orichalcum ore) which are needed for crafting exotic armor/weapons/trinkets (rings, earrings, amulet) due to bot farming a while ago. It seems they added a few more of them to certain maps (they are only available at a few maps). So lots of grinding for those and they are time-gated (once every 24 hrs that you dig/chop/pick them) to I guess balance the economy.  Same for a couple of other things that I got for completing some living story stuff (quartz crystal node in home instance map, candy corn and watchwork sprockets) and those are daily/24 hr wait items once gotten. Feel free to PM me if you want more details. I enjoy playing it, the zergs in WvW/Edge of the Mists can get crazy/annoying. Dungeons are brutal, Fractals of the Mists is also brutal/intense/hard.

My TV is 6 yrs old, not a smart one. Have been debating off/on on whether it's worth getting a Roku 3 or something else. I don't have NetFlix, don't plan on getting it either (Have amazon prime). Other than some random porn channels on roku and foreign channels, is it worth the $99 price tag? I am not a Hulu user (my girlfriend uses it at her place since she has the low end comcast tier since she thinks prices are too high - as do I and others but...) either or any of the other *online* services that these devices offer. I know some are free, others subscription types. So, is either of these worth a hill of beans to anyone who isn't into netflix/hulu stuff?

Well so far I think 4 updates over a couple month period. Dragon Reach Pt. 2 was last. Feature pack coming in September with some changes and class tweaks and other stuff. The lost coin ones are annoying since they don't give any spares in case you have trouble getting to some of the more challenging ones (and believe me, annoying is more like it....). But raging on in game!

Hey there!

I just want to say welcome back and will try to check out the new stuff as time permits! Good to see you still kicking!

I landed a job, official start date is TODAY! Small company, first they've hired for QA (the COO has been doing the testing) and they are looking to grow the business. I am looking forward to it as it's something new (mobile payment app for android/iOS) and exciting.

Some heavy stuff (while being quite melodic as well) is some cascadian black metal bands (or just black metal/post rock, however you want to term it) is Falls of Rauros (Maine!), Endless Sea and Sky Burial (where four rivers flow is awesome). All of these 3 bands put out some good stuff, some of it free via bandcamp or netlabel. Check them out and others of their ilk. Also been listening to Lycum and Eye of Solitude (doom/death/funeral doom).

« on: May 15, 2014, 09:14:21 AM »
Backed up both desktops  yesterday, WHS v1 was factory reset due to issue with a drive (working ok in dekstop lol) which I replaced and copied my mp3's/movies back to it (I want to guess 6-700gb between the two) which took prolly close to 8 hrs on the network. I do main desktop every week or two, when drive is getting full (external) I remove oldest backups.

well still pounding the pavement BUT things have gotten busier here for me over the 2 weeks. I have had one walk-in (waiting on decision supposedly this week on who they are going to make an offer to), 3 phone interviews in past 2 days of which 2 may go to a 2nd phone interview with managers, the 3rd was with the VP of QA which means I could be brought in for an on-site interview. Today I have 2nd interview from a call last week where I knew someone there who put in some good words to the QA manager (who I spoke with last week). So hopefully something of these 4 will come to fruition soon! Fingers crossed (and legs/fingers)....
