Everything and Nothing / Free holiday music
« on: December 15, 2008, 02:26:55 PM »
Every year for the past several years, my friends and I have recorded a record of mainly original holiday music. It's all available for free download on my website:

www.jonathanhughes.com/holiday.html

Including this year's stuff, there are over 30 songs available. Only a couple are remotely ambient, but they're all performed by some excellent musicians, many are really funny, many feature singing robots, and there's a LOT of synthesizer. There are all sorts of styles covered, so there's probably something there for just about anyone; and best of all, it's almost all original (we do do a few choice covers) and unlike anything you'll hear at the mall. So if you're sick of the songs that are played to death, come on over and start downloading.

Everything and Nothing / A new movie with an ambient soundtrack
« on: September 07, 2008, 10:39:51 AM »
A while back I did the original music for a movie called August Evening. It ended up winning best picture at the LA film festival, and the John Cassavetes award (best picture with a budget under $500K) at the Independent Spirit Awards (the academy awards of the indie film world). It's finally in theatres. It opened in NY this weekend, and will open in San Antonio, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Portland in the coming weeks. Other cities will follow.

In addition to my music, it also features existing music from Windy and Carl, and Takagi Masakatsu

You can see the trailer and find out more information here:

This film has gotten nothing but good reviews, so if you're looking for an interesting new movie with an interesting soundtrack, check it out.

I entered this year's RPM Challenge (the challenge is to write and record 10 songs or 35 minutes of music all in the month of february -- see rpmchallenge.com), so I did a 38 minute piece that's mainly ambient, but with a fair amount of rhythmic stuff, too.
