Other Ambient (and related) Music / Live coding

In light of the Robt Rich tour thread which came to include a lot of discussion on computers in live ambient music performances, what do you think of "live coding?"

...why do film critics feel compelled to use at least two adverbs in every sentence? And why do they feel compelled to use the word "compelling" in every review?

Everything and Nothing / Why do the worst songs go on the longest?

Is it just my subjective perception, that I want it to end so badly that it seems like it never does, or is it really part of the badness that the composer doesn't know when to say "enough"?

I posted tis question in the "now listening" section, but lest it get buried I moved it here:

I found an artist or group called "Srg" on the Internet Archive. It's very minimal drone music with some guitar here and there. Does anyone know who this is? The stuff is here:

Other Ambient (and related) Music / Is Yanni really all that bad?

The guy gets so much ridicule you'd think either he was the worlds worst musician or the world's biggest hack. Frankly, I think some of his arrangements are pretty good (did I detect an odd time signature or two?). Okay, his music and his shows are slick and polished, and he plays to a mass audience, but still, does he really deserve all this odium?

Music Gearheads Tech Talk / Coookieeee

Once again (after several aborted starts and lack of a bass guitar) I have decided to try to make a grind/thrash/death/doom/gore metal album. Being a metal dilettante, I have not mastered the distinctive vocal style colloquially known as "cookie monster" vocals. Would there be any way to approximate this lovely sound through an effects processor?

To stay on topic, if I can figure this out, I promise I will work it into an ambient recording.

Cheeeeeeeers,

Mike S.

Not sure if this is the right place for a "concert" announcement, but I'll be playing live over the Net on Ambitar radio tonight. You can stream it at www.stillstream.com.  Ambitar starts at 10:30 EST. I'll play around 11:30. Tune in if you're awake, and drop into the chat to say hi.

Cheers,
Mike S.
