Independent Music Reviews / Sonic Immersion's Seasons Greetings
« on: December 22, 2021, 08:27:05 AM »

Same as 2020, the year 2021 deprived so many of us from human interactions that we once took for granted.
Music though can be a great companion allowing us to feel connected, comforted, and even transported through just the sounds that fill the space between our ears.
I feel this applies especially to ambient and space music. It still does the trick for me; I sincerely hope it establishes something similar for you too.

One more thing:
The creation of the internet is one of the greatest technological achievements of our times. Information and references are instantly available on just about any topic preserved on servers for posterity.
While creating content can be free, sharing it via a host service brings about an inevitable cost and Sonic Immersion is no exception.
Every week I receive a lot of music for which I juggle my time to listen and distil my experiences into short and to the point reviews to stimulate curiosity, promote the music and help listeners explore new aural experiences.

While the website design and content maintenance is secure the hosting costs is in need of a bit of help.

Please enjoy the content as before and if you can offer any support through PayPal, remember that a little help can go a long way.

Thank you & stay safe.

For whom it may interest, there's a new Havdis album out on Gterma:

Dear electronic music fellows,

Please accept the belated explanations for Sonic Immersion's lack of activity for a while.

Website design and hosting changes over the years made it more and more difficult to maintain the old site until it could do no more.
Just like a devious illness the slow crippling process made it easier to overlook its imminent demise.
With some most dedicated help from two friends a new website became viable which despite it’s visible simplicity the background coding did present enough challenges.
The key aspects were future proofing, simpler website navigation, simple but effective enhancements such as Searching options, Artist pages and most importantly retaining historical information.

 …long story short, I'm happy to announce the wait is over by welcoming you back to the new website at
I hope you enjoy the outcome bearing in mind ongoing enhancements and fixes as we come across them.
Exhaustive proof tests would take a long time so I invite you to report negative functionality issues or general feedback at

Best regards,
Bert Strolenberg

Other Ambient (and related) Music / new Gterma albums

Johan Rehn recently put out another 2 fine releases:

Silentwave - Daiyuzan ; if you dig Roach's "Quiet Music" you will dig this quality ambient by this Japanese composer;
a review is on my site.

Mathias Grassow - The Nightquest Sessions; slightly edited version from the '98 cassette;

Walter Christian Rothe – Let the night last forever
CD/Digital Download, Groove Unlimited, 1985/2016

Belgian composer Walter Christian Rothe lived in the heart of the city of Brussels when he composed his classic album ‘Let the night last forever”. Comprising of nine parts it tells the story of his love for the night in the city especially the loneliness of the early hours. Today the music is as compelling as it was thirty years ago thrusting the listener on a mood roller coaster. The album kicks off dramatically with “Intro+Dawnfall” followed by the beautiful reflective sound painting of “The Next Leaf” both favourites of mine echoing Vangelis.
The mood changes with the high energy “Tea-dance” and “Sahara” (used in the Belgian film C4) leading into the enigmatic “Death”. “Radio” picks up the pace again with some great percussive and melodic elements followed by “Verena”, a lush sounding romantic exploration. “Hymne” creates a new atmosphere with traditional influences accentuated with sparse and dramatic sounding tympani crashes setting the mood for the album title track finale. The final title “Let the night last forever's” dramatic intro and melodic qualities brings the journey full circle. The magic blend of sounds and compositions offer many surprises for a remarkable album.
This first CD album reissue is expanded with two bonus pieces: “KLEM Track” (from the 1986 KLEM Jubilee MC) and the lovely mini-symphony “El Tiempo” (from the 1989 KLEM Jubilee CD).
