Datacide II by Tetsu Inoue/Atom Heart.  Very early Fax release of bleepy, bloopy, trippy gentle ambient, with a couple ambient techno tracks.  Good example of that early to mid 90s sound, not just from Fax.  I have the reissue version.  Seen the original on Discogs for $200.

Everything and Nothing / Excuses Used by Ebay and Discogs Sellers
« on: September 01, 2015, 08:29:19 AM »
I don't know if anyone here buys music using eBay and Discogs.  My latest couple experiences prompt me to create this post.  When I sell music on Discogs, I follow the selling procedure by updating the buyer, e.g. when I've received their payment, when I've shipped their item, etc.  I always ship as soon as I get payment, and I let buyer know what's going.  This is common courtesy and also Discogs "rules" for proper selling on the site.  Last two times I was the buyer, the seller invoiced me immediately, which I paid immediately, then let 3 or 4 days go by without communication.  When I asked for an update, I got (BOTH sales) "So sorry, I've been ill in the hospital"!!  I can't count how many times I've heard this, both eBay and Discogs.  The most current one, they apparently have the flu, but of course didn't bother to advise of the delay.  They had invoiced me immediately as well, plus overcharged me for shipping compared to their seller requirements.  I don't understand how these people get 100% feedback ratings.   With all the hospital time they're logging, it's hard to see how they're selling anything at all...

Didn't know Jon Hassell helped out Mo Boma.  Interesting.  Great Extreme label artist.

Currently:

Motionfield--Luftrum.  This overall was disappointing. 2 or 3 excellent tracks but a lot of it sounds a bit dated, and dull.  Don't think would have cut it as a Fax release.

AoC 3.9.  Solar Image remixes.  Excellent stuff.  I found this used at a record store.  Out of print.  Sweet!

Cosmic Ground 2.  Haven't had enough listening time on this.  Retro Berlin School sequencer stuff, self released by artist.

Other Ambient (and related) Music / Michael Mantra RIP
« on: August 24, 2015, 04:07:18 PM »
Don't remember seeing mention here, but Michael Mantra passed away last year.  His ambient music was released on Silent, Silentes, Hypnos, and perhaps others I'm not aware of.

AoC 6 doesn't sound like a remix to me, although in parts you can hear bits of the original album.

Two latest ...txt CD's in heavy rotation:

Autumn of Communion--AOC 6.  Another thing of flowing, deep heavenly beauty.  The last in the series.  100 official CDs made.  Probably sold out by now.

S.E.T.I.-- The Data Logs of Astro Mirmex.  This is Andrew Lagowski's SET I, not the one from the 90s.  Much less dark than his previous work, this is quite cinematic and soundtrack like space ambient.  May take awhile to  really connect with.  150 pressed CDs made.

Lycia--A line that Connects.  This followup to their 2013 comeback album Quiet Moments really delivers.  A much stronger effort, both musically and production wise.  David Galas returns as well.  No complaints here.

Roger Waters--Amused to Death (2015).  1992 masterpiece just got remastered plus remixed, so some of it is quite a bit different than the original version.  This came out when Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins were huge, so it got somewhat overlooked.  Angry, cynical, humorous, sad, and powerful sum up this concept album.  23 years later, the message has even more meaning thanks to humans latest obsessive amusement-- cell phones and other devices.

Led Zeppelin--Presence and Coda deluxe editions.  Some great alternate versions and unreleased tracks.

So I bought this Saturday in a store, only because it was right in front of me.  I'm really glad I did.  For some reason I thought most of the album was like track 2, of the detuned variety, when I sampled the tracks on bandcamp.  Very good, more immersive listening session planned for tonight...

So I now have these three GS Productions releases of Grassow.  Opus Posthumum is fantastic.  Goes through several suites throughout even though it's like one long track.  Harmonia Mundi excellent too, like a cross between his Himalaya and Thom Brennan The Path Not Taken (minus the percussion).  The box set is a real monster.  Trying to absorb the four CDs.  Excellent interview w/Grassow inside on the tray inserts.  Nice to read.

Everything and Nothing / People proof CD jewel cases
« on: August 05, 2015, 09:36:24 AM »
What's up with some of these jewel cases where it's near impossible to remove or replace the CD from/to the tray, because of the design of the spindle/ring part of the tray?  You can't push on the center to release the disc, so you have to pull up, and often you have to bend the hell out of the disc just to dislodge it.  I just want to go through my collection and round up all these type of cases and smash them to bits with a hammer.  Thanks for listening to my rant.

9 dragons:  apparently Tetsu has physically disappeared, not just from music.  There were some posts here about that awhile ago....

Now listening:

Zoviet France--Vienna 1990.  This was right before Robin Storey went solo as Rapoon.  Thus this might as well be a live Rapoon album, heavy on the ritual tribal ambience.  Check out the reverb drenched didgeridoos.  A heady brew to trip out to.

Oh cool!  I couldn't find any info or samples on Harmonia, so nice to know it's a good one.

In addition to the box I ordered two other ltd grassow discs on this same label.  Opus Posthumum is a reissue and Harmonia Mundi is the other disc.  Both are pressed CD's ltd to 100 copies.

I listened to the box set on bandcamp again and it is very good, I must've been tired or cranky the first time.  My box is on the way. That would be cool to have a hand signed copy.

Yes I've noticed this too.  What gets me is all the fancy packaging yet they still put the music on a cheap CDR.  In general, there are too many releases.  Too many artists/labels don't know how to self-edit.  I find myself buying stuff for the limited edition aspect rather than the music.  Which is pretty dumb.

Other Ambient (and related) Music / Why no Zoviet France reissues???
« on: July 23, 2015, 01:00:00 AM »
Seems the demand is quite high for these long out of print Zoviet France CD's you see on eBay or Discogs for crazy $$.  I'm sure the zf members could make some nice coin from reissues, plus the fans would be super happy.  Just wondering why this hasn't happened yet.  I'm sure I could get a reply from Robin Storey about it, he's always answered my emails.  But maybe someone here knows a possible answer before I do so, so I don't ask a question that's already been answered.  I do remember one zf reissue that came out on Soleilmoon years ago, but the title escapes me.  The first edition was released in a wooden box.

Phobos, it's ok, you can say it sucks ;)

IMO, Steve writes his own press releases, as they are written the same way he discusses his music verbally.  Could be wrong though.  Pretty sure Ian Boddy writes all the press releases for his DIN label.
