« on: March 27, 2008, 10:09:19 AM »
No big deal, just 20- some cd's on sale with some of the finest ambient/spacemusic stars in the known universe.  Artists from such labels as Hypnos and DiN, along with a few Alio Die releases, Oophoi's Arpi di Sabbia, and the list goes on and on.  Folks, what better time now than to tell that special someone (perhaps yourself) you care this, ahem, tax-refund season with an ambient title from the below listing:

Other Ambient (and related) Music / Techno Music

The Ron Boots thread makes me want to post something long-desired.  Some people were dusting off (no pun intended) their chemical brothers music in the now playing thread recently.  Even though a lot of people thought they sold out once they ditched the big-beat format in their later years,  I happen to have very fond memories of 1999's Surrender, and listened to it a couple days ago.  It still sounds great from beginning to end- love the lead singer of Mazzy Star contributing on that hazy piece.  Their subsequent albums got progressively less interesting although there are some real gems of jams to be found. Daft Punk's Discovery is another really neat album.  The sampling in that is as original to me as The Dust Brothers' work on The Beastie Boys Paul's Boutique

Is this genre dead?  Anybody still enjoy this type of music and have some relevant recommendations?   I mean, I guess it can be ambient-techno or lounge, but the mid to high energy stuff (basement jaxx, aforementioned artists, etc.), you know, that vein would be especially appreciated.  Thank you 8)

Other Ambient (and related) Music / Ron Boots

Ron Boots is an artist I've always wanted to hear, but finding sound samples of his discs is really hard.  I'm intrigued after reading the reviews, and now Hypnos has some new issues of Tainted Bare Skin... would anyone recommend that?  The loud driving sequencer stuff kind of turns me off, but the descriptions say there are beats and techno influences, so it's hard to imagine, yet intriguing.  I enjoy the more moderate or even keeled sequencer music, maybe with occasional crescendos, so some of these described "energetic tracks", well I just don't know about (that's why some of the DiN descriptions usually I just pass on)  I've enjoyed TD's Phaedra, Dweller at the Threshold's Oouroburos... some dub too like Bluetech is cool.  So, who likes Ron Boots and why?  Or why not?

Also, a quick question for Mike:  any chance of getting Rudy Adrian and Ron Boots "Across the Silver River" back in stock?  Maybe it's out of print...
