Everything and Nothing / Re: Robots and Donuts - the art of Eric Joyner

These are great! I especially like the kid and robot watching Star Trek.

Interesting album. I did really enjoy it. My favorite track is Perception Shift. I also enjoyed World Without Sky. Actually there weren't any bad tracks. I did catch myself starting to drift off while listening to this album. I was thinking that ambient music is one of the few forms of music where falling asleep while listening can be considered a compliment.  ;) Look forward to hearing more from you.

Hi Wayne. It's good to see you back! When do we get to hear Oenyaw # 36?

I remember once years ago seeing an ad for Keith Emerson's Hammond L100 that he used live for years. It was being bid on for outrageous money. Why would anyone pay big bucks for an organ that had been pushed over, whipped and had daggers stuck in it night after night? Beats me.

I think the Filter Factory can be had pretty cheaply on ebay still.

The green one at the top looks like the Elektrix Filter Factory.

Music Gearheads Tech Talk / Re: NI Reaktor 5 Sale
« on: May 23, 2014, 03:04:58 PM »
When they put this stuff on sale it's a great deal. I bought the Komplete 9 upgrade recently , I already have Komplete 5. I think I paid around $150. Pete's right, Reaktor alone can keep you busy a long time by itself.

Here's what I wrote about this one on my facebook page:

Tree of Life by Loren Nerell and Mark Seelig is hands down one of the best ambient albums I've heard in a long time. I've been fortunate to hear early versions and the final master before release... so I've heard this many times over the last few months.

The album is truly a "journey" - it starts slow and minimal - gorgeous hints of percussion, drones and textural background. Mark Seelig plays a jaw dropping flute line through much of the first half of the album. The blending of the flute with the backdrop is so dead on perfect.

The percussion later builds into a section where the percussion and rhythm comes to the forefront. Recorded partially in a group setting when Mark and family from Germany were visiting Loren in California.

And then... we hit the moment where the percussion comes to a sudden stop, and we drop into the brilliant gamelan playing by Loren Nerell. Wow. Simply... wow. So deliciously tasteful.

Highly, highly recommended.
I have to agree with John. This is one of the best ambient releases I have heard in quite some time. I recommend getting this in the 2-pack offered from Projekt including Byron Nelson and Mark Seelig's Intention. These two cd's go together very nicely.

I found it. Harry Bertoia was the artist. Forrest Fang was actually the one who pointed me to him in a discussion I had started about an electric gong exhibit in Austin several years ago. Here's a great video if anyone is interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtZ3qmGBWEM

Everything and Nothing / Information wanted on instrument builder
« on: May 15, 2014, 02:36:58 PM »
I'm hoping someone with a better memory than I have can help me. I'm looking for information on a furniture designer who also made musical sculptures out of steel rods. He is either Spanish or Italian I believe and had a barn somewhere with his sculptures in it. Sort of a musical barn. He is now decesed, but his son still has his collection. I'm kind of embarrased because I think I was the one who first posted about him on here or the Relaxed Machinery site years ago. I've tried searching on past hypnos posts, but no luck. I can't figure out how to search on the Relaxed Machinery site, but I am going to try again in a minute. I'm probably just asking the question wrong. Thanks

Most of the handmade synths I have played around with seem to be one trick ponies, which is fine if you like the one thing it does well. For me they just seem too limiting so I've never gotten any for my studio.
Yes, that and price are the two main reasons I haven't picked up any so far. I love the concept, though of alternate triggers, etc.    BTW, Loren, I just got the two pack from Projekt today of your Intention/Tree of Life releases. Can't wait to hear them.

Those are pretty interesting synths. I've been interested in the Folktek devices,  http://folktek.com/ ,but they are kind of pricey. The Electric Lobotomy stuff is a lot more affordable. I may have to look into these more.

I downloaded this recently and am really enjoying it. I prefer the final mix version although the quiet version is nice also. Great job, Andy!
