Other Ambient (and related) Music / Re: Robert Rich Tour Blog
« on: May 15, 2010, 01:12:58 PM »
I think it's mostly a sign of the times.  We may not forget that we're not getting younger and it seems the the next generations of music lovers are quite different from our generation.  I do see this happening to my own and other gigs throughout Europe.  Quite unpredictable as with my recent Microphonics tour throughout Europe I played before audiences of 120 people or just even 4 people.  Nevertheless on both occassions they were impressive and very respectful.  I just don't mind playing for a gathering of 100 people or 4, I can't take it for granted that I do these concerts and that I'm able to share my passion with others.  I just love the fact of playing intimate and very small-scaled concerts more and more.  It's a fact that our kind of music nowadays gets more and more 'underground' than even before in our high days of electronic music scene of the 80's and 90's.

Of course there's a huge difference between Robert and myself, I think Robert still tries to live from his music while I have a 9 to 5 dayjob, which gives me, apart from the frustration now & then, the extreme freedom to do whatever I want with my music - whether it's commercially accepted or not.
I'm sure the decreasing interest in our music scene must put a lot of pressure on Robert's shoulders.

For those who are interested in reading the blog on my Microphonics tour, about the hi and lows, the seedy venues and promoters, the respectful audiences and the satisfaction of playing your music before audiences :

Hello Vidna, Any plans of coming back to the USA for a concert or mini tour. I think the last time I saw you was in NYC several years back. I had to leave early becouse I had to catch a early flight out of JFK the next morning. But it was by chance that I got to see you perform. Even if it was for 30 minutes or so. I've flown across the pond three times in the last year and half to see Edgar Froese and Tangerine Dream in concert. I've been trying to get hEdgar to come back to the US for anothre live gig. Like you said were all not getting any younger. Just wiser. Cheers.

Hypnos News and Announcements / Re: Hypnos At Discogs
« on: January 08, 2010, 02:36:33 PM »
Thanks to Discogs for keeping EM and ambient music alive here in the US. And of course forums like Hypnos. I almost lost hope for electronic/ambient music here in america. Was heavy into Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Vangelis, Jean Michel Jarre, etc., etc. in the 70's and 80's. It seemed like we lost alot of the EM/ambient during the 90's. While Europe was still strong. Thanks due to the internet and shops like Discogs and Hypnos we are able to experience the music.

Steve Roach is set to release a double live of his performance at Grace Cathedral. I'm feeling bittersweet about it, as I really want to hear this performance, but I am kicking myself for not having attended. I lived in SF for five years, and the hill and the cathedral were favorite spots to visit on bike rides. I imagine it was an awe inspiring show in that environment. I blew it off cause I didn't want to spend time money to travel back down to California, and am now feeling like I missed out on a rare chance. Anyone see this show?

I too missed out on Steve's performance at the Grace. Having seen the Sausalito's performance the year before and Oakland a few years before the Grace. I decided to skip the Grace concert. I can kick myself for that. But I was lucky enough to be presented with a cdr hard copy of this performance early last year. I will definately buy this cd. Looking forward to Steve's performance in 2010.

Last call for Immersion Festival.  ;D Ok, I was interviewed about the show, you can read the interveiw here:

It was a very cool show Loren. Had a great time. Steve , Djam and yourself put on a fantastic show. Thank you very much.

Wow!  What a lineup and what a price!

Even if they charged an admission to this event, I would go. Anybody else out there in SoCal going to this one? Saw Steve play at Analog Haven (next door to event) the last 2 times he's played there. Every time is different. Hope to see some of you there!!

Been a big fan of Ron Boots and dreamscape.

I will be there for this one too. Would not miss it.

Just recieved my Box Set from Steve.  :) #58 out of 500. Listening to Destination Beyond. Almost midnight. And just Beyond from chillin out. Thinking about taking a trip out to the desert for an overnight camping trip. The box set will be a good listen in the fall landscapes of Cougar Buttes.

Dont know if this belongs here in the Hypnos forum.

Picture Palace Music is a fairly new band by Thorsten (a member of Tangerine Dream). They have 5 albums out. The latest Natatorium is an excellent release. His best. . . IMHO! The music style is EM with some classical sounds and some vocals. The instrumentals are what makes PPM a strong group. Natatorium is all instrumental and has alot of Tangerine Dream influence. If you like old school TD, this is a must album to check out. A good start is his My Space page. Enjoy!

Now Playing / Re: Currently listening, part 1

It's been just over 2 weeks now since coming back from Berlin, Germany seeing Tangerine Dream play at the Zitadelle Spandau (Rocking out the Bats). Forty two years and still sounding great in concert.  :)

I picked up Edgar's latest album's "Winter in Hiroshima" (4th album in a 5 series release-the 5th to be released next year) and mini cup disc EP "A Cage in Search of a Bird." I also picked up Thorsten's Quaeschning's Picture Palace Music  latest album - "Natatorium" cdr.  :) :) ;) His 5th and IMHO his best! For those not familiar with PPM, check out his My Space page.

So I've been listening to all 3 cd's for the last 2 weeks. Natatorium is probably the surprise album of the year in the EM catagory.

All right, accuse me of being a fanboy. I couldn't resist, I ordered the box set. Steve Roach is clever in this current approach. I am thinking he should just start a subscription service and send out the albums on that basis. I am continually interested in what he is doing musically. It most definitely is like a painting, has that immediate power, but also is something you want to listen to months or years down the road.

I am curious to see how quickly the 500 boxes sell out. How much music does an ambient master at the top of his game sell these days?

Also a huge fan of Steve Roach. I would subscribe to Steve's albums. I have them all along with others like Robert Rich, Tangerine Dream, etc. I prefer to purchase the albums on the artist website. But a subsription would be nice too. An automatic payment.

Listening to all 3 sound samples on Steve's website. I think this is going to be one of Steve's best releases in years. Although I do like Dynamic and Landmass. The long format does it for me. I can throw the cd's in my disc changer, hit play and chill out for 4 hours or so. I am looking forward to the release of this special 3cd box set. Hope to see a follow-up concert with the release of these 3 cd's.  ;) ;)

Other Ambient (and related) Music / REDSHIFT

I need help in finding any music from REDSHIFT, mp3's or albums(cd). I caught some sounds from Ultima Thule and Alien Air Music that was playing Redshift. Going online, I cannot find much on this group. Any info or help would be appreciated. Thanks you.

I recieved my copy of Stillness in the mail today. Uploaded to Ipod already. Partial listen. Digging it! Will save for desert trip this Monday night. In the Stillness of the night somewhere near Lucerne Valley in the Buttes. With cougars howlin in the night.

I will continue to feature selected releases from new and established artists which I find find ear-opening.A new release from a unique duo, Lapis Ensemble, deserves your attention. Please read more about this below.

For nearly three years I have been working onDynamic Stillness. This 2-CDsolo release of all-new pieces is coming in a few months on Projekt. It inhabits the Immersion, Mystic Chords and Magnificent Void dimensions, but deeper and further "inside".Theseare the places I love to live within, and lately I've been in full habitation mode with these piecesand theirprogressionfor months. I look forward to sharing this "Stillness" with you.The official release date is April, but we will have copies at the site before then. Please stay tuned...

There are already a few new Timeroom Editions releases cued up and in production, one of which is "Destination Beyond". This takes the momentum of Arc of Passion and Landmass in to the studio, resulting in a single70-minute road trip to the next place at the next horizon.

I will meet you there at this next horizon, and from that point look towards the next one. All the best for '09 and again, thank you for your continued interest and support of the music over the years.

Steve Roach

Hey Steve,

Just got back from holiday in Prague and saw this on your website. I am very impressed with the cover. Wow! What a surprise to see coming home. I had to take a trip out to the desert the day after getting home and chill(warm up to the spring desert heat) to Landmass, Mystic Chords, Arc, etc, and some TD's music. Cant wait till the release SR. The wait will be worth it. Thank you.

This is sad news to hear of Jorges passing. I was lucky to see him perform with Steve Roach back in 2000 in Tucson. He will be missed.
 :( :( :(

Yes Tangerine Dream is alive and doing well! The band's been around for 40 years now. Edgar Froese is still putting out some great music with TD. Although you may not hear TD much here in the USA, but in Europe and other countries they are still making and selling albums (CD's) and performing in concert 3-4 times a year. On November 7th, TD will be performing a special concert at UCLA's Royce Hall. They have not performed in the USA in nearly 15 years. And it may be awhile before they come back. So if you want to catch TD Live, this would be a great chance. More information at or

Just a reminder to all, Steve Roach will be performing at the "Coconino Center for the Arts" in Flagstaff, AZ. next weekend Sat. Oct 25th, 2008. He will be performing 2 shows: at 6pm (SOLD OUT) and again at 9pm (tickets still available). This will be his only appearence for 2008. Dont miss out! This promises to be 2 very special performances in one night. Go to for more info. Hope to see you all there. :)

My first experience with electronic music happened back in 1977. I was in a conversation with a friend at work over Pink Floyd, Yes, ELP, etc. The next day he brought in an "Album" (remember them?) Tangerine Dream Thief soundtrack. Even though not their best album, I was hooked. I must of went out and bought every TD album I could find. Vangelis, Jean Michel Jarre(who I just saw in Frankfurt performing Oxygene-WOW!), Micheal Garrison, etc. followed. It was'nt till early 1994 I was out at Deep Creek Hot Springs doing whatever we do at the springs, when at night I came across the radio show Hearts Of Space playing Robert Rich and Steve Roach. That was the beginning of my Steve Roach trip. I will never forget that night. Early the next morning the Northridge earthquake hit Socal. My first Roach CD was The Magnificent Void. First show was at a coffee shop in Santa Monica in 1996(first of 9 concerts-Tucson 1997 my favorite). I picked up Well Of Souls at the show and I still go back to that cd every couple of weeks. One of my favs. Since then I have all of Steve's cd's and enjoy it all, some more than others. I have my choice cd's that I take out to the desert when I go camping. I have the cd's when I'm just chillin at home or on the road. I am looking forward to A Deeper Silence and hope to see him in Flagstaff later this year. For now, I will be heading out to the desert this weekend and chillin' to some Steve Roach and other ambient music to the night skies and campfire. . . .with some good beer and . . . . . well, you know the rest!

Anybody else out there check out Robert Rich at the Goethe Institute(PARTIKEL 2) on March 1, or up in Livermore, CA? I was at the Partikel 2 show. Excellent show. Great turn out. Visuals was out of this universe.
