Klaus Schulze - In Blue Deluxe Edition

I really adore the track Return of the Tempel (minus the keyboard-saxophone part ???).

Klaus Schulze has made some of the best and some of the worst electronic music out there. His classics like Mirage, Timewind and X can't be beaten.

I wasn't impressed with his latest solo albums. He still makes those long tracks, but they're only nice for a couple of minutes and then it becomes endless the first track on Moonlake... and tracks 2-4 of that album are terribly amateurish sounding.

The last great thing he did was IMO Dark Side of the Moog IX (don't know about X and XI).

But the new one with Lisa Gerrard sounds pretty interesting.

I'm very much into piano music.

Currently studying on the piano my beloved and famous Rachmaninov - Prelude in C sharp Minor Op. 3 No. 2

I'll get there, slowly but surely...doing the middle section at half that speed for the moment.
When I started with piano lessons almost a year ago I could have never dreamed of trying to play this.
But it helped a lot that I played keyboard/synth for many years as a kid.

Oh and someday, I hope to be able to play this:

Dunno if that's even possible not having been a child prodigy and all. Keep dreaming ;D

Samples sound nice, especially the last one.

As much as I love Steve Roach' music, I have to say that I would like to see more variation in his sound.
I don't mind when he uses similar sounds and patterns across various albums, as long as it's not too much and too obvious....but the overall sound character is very much the same on most albums after 2001 or so.
It's that highly polished, reverb-laden, glimmering sound of his. You could say that's simply his style, but it would be very interesting if he could make something a bit more dry, gritty, noisy, low-fi sounding some time... to create different moods and atmospheres....something you wouldn't instantly recognize as that Steve Roach sound.

Proton Kinoun - Apeiron

This is very, very nice free music in the style of Vir Unis/Steve Roach - Blood Machine and the like.

Raison d'etre - Metamorphyses. Tracks 4 and 5 are fantastic.

Vidna Obmana - The River of Appearance

Speedy J - A Shocking Hobby. Listening to a lot of ambient needs a heavy counterweight sometimes.

Nothing but praise for 'Arc of Passion', especially title track part 1.
When you listen to it as a whole, the most brilliant part comes around the 22nd minute and on. It's like the piece reaches a perfect momentum there. Absolutely wonderful.

but when he's good, he's great!

But there's always a chance I start to like music that I didn't like before. At the moment I really enjoy some of his tribal stuff, that I never liked earlier. I now think Fever Dreams 2 is a fantastic, mesmerizing, soulful album. It can take a long time before I dig some of his music.

Thanks everyone. Coincidentally this was just posted on another forum ( :)

Here's the news from Michael himself :
I'm finishing Vidia Wesenlund's CD, it's "night music" from Scandanavia, sung in Norwegean and Swedish. This is a project I inherited about a year ago that I've re-worked extensively... it's quite haunting and beautiful. Lots of Michael Stearns music and production. Six pieces are finished and the last three are being mixed now.
I'll probably be traveling to Scandanavia with Vidia again this summer to talk with record labels there about distribution.

I'm in the middle of the Maya Skies soundtrack. It will not be elivered 'till next year, but I'm working a lot on it now.
This project is both a planetarium show and an OMNIMAX film, and it's all about the Maya calendar and people. As you probably know, the Maya "long count" comes to an end in December of 2012, and there's a lot of speculation about what that could mean for humanity. I'm
working in many modes on this project, one of which is microtonal, working in both 20 and 13 tone systems.
Last November I traveled to Yucatan and Chiapas in Mexico to record Maya ceremonial music which I will weave into the soundtrack with my own music.

Nature's Journey was released last September on both standard and Blue Ray DVD. This soundtrack is entirely my music.

The Baraka remix is now complete and the new Baraka standard DVD and Blue Ray DVD will be released in September. Both contain dts 96/24 5.1 soundtracks, as well as extra material that includes a "making of" documentary.

The crew from Baraka is now out in the world shooting the sequel "Samsara".
Ron Fricke is directing again and Mark Magidson producing. They are currently shooting in Africa. I will start this score next year, working again with Lisa Gerard of Dead Can Dance.

So, a lot happening here at the moment. I'm not sure when I will release another solo CD. One thought is to create a CD of themes from 'soundtracks', since I've recorded so many lately that have
only been released on DVD. Vidia and I really enjoy working together, so we'll be doing a CD as a colaboration soon.

In the studio, I'm now working with the new Roland V Synth GT, Korg M3 and the amazing Roland VG-99 guitar synthesizer... they are all fantastic.

Hope you are well. Give my regards to everyone over there!

Any news about this artist?

I have Encounter and The Lost World and enjoy them.
Also Planetary Unfolding on mp3 only, because I can't find it anywhere. Possibly the greatest electronic album ever, IMO.

What else would you recommend and is he ever going to release new material?

I start to like most of his music sooner or later. It's a matter of acquired taste. But once it gets to you, it doesn't let go. It's almost addictive. Lately I've been obsessed with some tracks on Fever Dreams 2, like 'Fires Burning'. Fantastic album, possibly his all time greatest.
Anyway, some people just don't get it and they never will. ;D
