A note about "Through the Gate to Nowhere":

"Through the Gate to Nowhere" is the culmination of material recorded over a two year timeframe at my studio in Colorado. The sound design and recording of this album was a repeated process of coming into the soundworld of the music and then leaving it to sit for awhile, sometimes months apart. The result is a collection of music that was built upon a wide range of experiences and introspective moments recorded over the course of an unusually long span of time. Ultimately, "Through the Gate to Nowhere" is a sonic journey influenced by many events and emotion. Near the end of the project I felt the music lent itself to the mysteries of nature. I have long been inspired by the lush green landscape of Europe and England and as I was nearing the final days of recording the album I had the fortune to be presented with photographs from the Wasdale Lake District, an area located in Cumbria England, for use as the artwork. These images were the inspiration for the final touches on the recording, the track titles, and are the perfect visual for the artwork of the CD package.

For any of you who are users of the Access TI series of synthesizers, I produced a patch bank titled "Dreamzone Textures". As some of you know, I have released several loop libraries for the SONY ACID Loop Libraries in the past. I have also been working on professional sound design patches for synthesizers. The Access Virus TI project is my first set that I created. This sound bank can be purchased directly from my website at: http://numinamusic.com/

Hello Hypnosians.  I'm sorry I don't post here as often as I should, but I do pop in and catch up on posts from others.  Wanted to make a note of some of the goings on with what is happening in Numinaworld.  If you haven't yet, please "like" the Numina FaceBook page.  It's where you will find the most up to date information.

https://www.facebook.com/Numinamusic

The following is the latest news post from today (12/10/13):

Numina News:

1. Numinamusic.com has a new website layout and store front! Now, you can choose to digitally download most titles and all hard copy purchases include an instant download! Check it out here: http://www.numinamusic.com/store/

2. Attention Access Virus TI users! I have been working on a patch bank for the Virus TI synthesizer. The patch bank will consist of (a minimum of) 100 patches, all designed from the ground up, the majority consisting of deep evolving organic and spacey ambient sounds. I'm a little more than half way done with the patch bank at this point. I hope to wrap this up in the next few weeks. Planned to be available as a downloadable product from my web store and eBay.

3. The Deception of Reality is now available for sale through CD Baby: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/numina4

4. Hypnos Recordings has been working on a new digital download store! Their in-house beta-testing is complete and Hypnos is now looking for public testing and feedback. Help Hypnos get the digital store up and running smoothly! Read more about it here: http://hypnos.com/wordpress/2013/12/10/beta-testing-our-download-store/

5. Work on new Numina music has been slow going as far as actual song production. The whole experience of pouring out my inner thoughts and feelings into music form is never easy for me let alone the actual recording, programming, sound design, mixing, mastering is and always has been a very challenging and personal process. I have a lot of fires burning from different angles, a lot of sound design and atmospheres unlike anything I've created before are emerging. Now, it's mostly a matter of digging deep into the assembly of the new release. Hopefully in the first quarter of 2014. Stay tuned.

Sean -Thanks for sharing the story about those instruments you discovered. And yes, Rhino is Chuck's store. I haven't had a chance to meet him in spite of going to both Rhino and Analogue Haven (as it was called at the time). I have to admit it was a nice surprise to see my album "Shift to the Ghost" displayed at AH and a Numina section at Rhino! I found a bunch of Ian Boddy and Alio Die discs too, IIRC.

I enjoy LA myself. Where are you living now?

Jesse

More like crashing meteor.

Why do you think so?   :)  Your music is very deep, mature and strong.

Thank you Poaalpina  :)

Judd - thanks for reminding me about that Brenholts review. RIP Brenholts!

"Rising"? More like crashing meteor. ;). Thanks though, your post put a much needed smile on my face. :)

I plan on picking this CD up when I go to the show at the vortex dome. Looking forward to seeing many close friends as much as the show itself. Who else is going? Ambient superstars Loren Nerell, Steve Lazur, Kelly David, and Brian Parnham will be there. Who else?

Everything and Nothing / Re: "Make Offer" option for sellers on Discogs
« on: January 21, 2013, 09:36:27 PM »
You guys (I'm talking about album buyers, not producers) sure do have a little business going there on Discogs.

Well, I've only made two purchase transactions on discogs.  The first one I got no response from anyone.  The second one went smooth. I'm not totally comfortable with discogs yet for buying.  The selling is probably better than I made it sound, just takes a long time for payment and a couple no-shows, and there was one disc I sent out that apparently didn't have the disc inside (it was shrinkwrapped so I didn't know) and the person who bought it lives in Germany and just flipped out on me calling me a "murderer" (must have been a language barrier thing there because that's kinda crazy talk) but otherwise OK I guess.  I've only sold one title to the U.S. and the rest to Europe & Canada via discogs (Europe is where most orders originate these days).

I'm still a bit new to discogs buying an selling. I didn't know that about the cancellation deal. Thanks!  I was sort of giving the buyer a break because he bought a couple titles prior. The buyer was also from Italy and perhaps there was a language barrier issue when I sent my correspondence to him. Oh well. I'll take advantage of the canceling option on future transactions if necessary so thanks for the tip!

Yeah, that's really dumb, but problem I've had is more trouble with buyers. 1 out of 3 orders the person doesn't respond to the invoice I send and since discogs' fee format doesn't keep track of when or even if I receive a payment I still have to pay the $1 per disc it costs me to sell on there. But I never get a darn payment. Apparently, I can't get a refund from discogs but I can get credit for the next sale, but i have to mess around with some form and stuff.... Kind of a mess on both ends of the transaction.

Hang in there though!

J.

Late to this thread... I'm not a die hard but I do like KJ quite a bit, mostly the 80s synthpop/goth stuff moreso than the more recent stuff.  I liked Pandemonium and Democracy as well.  That said "In Cythera" is a kick ass song.  Kind of the one stand out on the album that the band should have done more of.

Zeit is deep!

Just unwrapped Vols 7 & 8 of the La Vie sets and they're both the all-black CDRs too. Oh well. Listening to 7 now, the opening track is nice.

Re: TD.  I quite like the live 35th Anniversary Phaedra DVD, but could do without the contemporary, I guess you could call it, acoustic stuff with the women and big hair. I skip over that stuff for the most part.  I did pick up "Epsilon Journey" 2-CD set and like about half of it.  Seems like disc two is better IIRC.  Anyway, I find KS and TD to be fun to listen to, but not necessarily "deep".  That's OK with me though.  Sort of like KS & TD is to Steve Roach as R.E.M.'s "Shiny Happy People" is to Sisters of Mercy's "Marian".

Interesting and thank you for the reviews. I agree that from what I've heard From these releases - both the actual albums and the audio snippets - that vol. 5 & 6 are, so far, the more interesting and enjoyable to listen to. I'll take your advice on 1 & 2. I am a little up and down on KS's operatic and manic stuff. Some of it is.... listenable while at other times cringeworthy. Still, it can be fun but usually a one-time listening experience.
