Man oh man....what one finds in one's collection of old cassette tapes...I just find if anyone remembers from the Hearts of Space Label, Ken Stover(which btw is he still around) His Sir Dancelot's Dream...and I found an old Nightingale album from the Higher Octave music label....
man..I actually had to go find me a stinking tape player and some batteries to listen to this great music...hahahaha
one might want to dig around in your collection and see what you might find:)

well..this kind of goes along with CD's but they keep announcing the demise of DVD's and blu-rays(blu-rays are going to be around for a few more years anyways) and that streaming and digital downloads are the thing of the future...
uhhh..right...:(.....one, if they can make the digital downloads and streaming look as good and sound as good as Blu-ray and no.2. when the stupid ISP's are not going to throttle one for downloading such huge files, etc....

I have to kind of agree about Tron, being a sequel and they used a little sci-fi in it about the poly-amorphic code that was able to evolve and I was sitting there thinking to myself, HELLOOOOO....let's not do the whole original tron games, look, etc which they freaking did anyways instead of going off on a whole new plot to a point....reason why it sucked...no originality...but like said, the music was great if you like techno music:)

Everything and Nothing / Re: Can we have a serious talk about vinyl?

I am just wondering if like anything else, this is just another fad, for example, bell bottoms made a come back a few years ago, along with the 60's go go boots women are notarious for wearing these days:)...This goes along with the current fad of movies, everything being made 3D as of late...
soooo....what next then???

I feel that with the right mixing, mastering and engineering and if one was to do a blind test with the aforementioned techniques, I think no one would be able to hear the difference...
personally, I think the mastering techniques have switched to a digital mindset as to if we switched that mindset to a ananlog thinking mastering job on a digital product, then they will sound the difference....
of course, also, this could be due to the loudness wars we have had going into digital, but with the older stuff, it was more natural sounding levels..:)

Other Ambient (and related) Music / The Ancients awesome review:)
« on: December 10, 2010, 05:35:14 PM »
Thanks John for doing an awesome review of my album, The Ancients and keep up the awesme work..:

On his newest release, The Ancients, Darren Rogers weaves a musical tale of the “lost knowledge of Atlantis.” The story spills forth in four fairly long tracks, the shortest just shy of 10 minutes, for a little under an hour’s worth of calm, sighing, melodic music. Truth is, The Ancients doesn’t really need the ostensible theme to work. My first listens were made free of that context and I liked what I heard; no deeper sense or insight was gained through knowing Rogers’ narrative intent. The opener, “From the Stars,” is the longest track, a lush and graceful flow of soft chords with an undertone of approaching sadness. A very nice ambient work that stands on its own. Rogers appropriately layers some drama beneath his drifts on “Utopia Lost” and carries it easily into “Celestial Voices from the Heavens,” where the composer makes strong use of a vocal sample, coming like the voice of a lone Atlantean singing in prayer. To me, this track starts a bit uncertainly but levels off a few minutes in. Towards the end Rogers gives it a distinct spacemusic feel. I can’t decide if the closing/title track starts out with the sound of panicked voices–which would make sense if Rogers is ending his story with the ruin of Atlantis. It’s a little distracting but, like the track before, this one eventually smooths out on a bell-tone melody that gives way to starry, pensive pads.

All in all, The Ancients is a solid piece of work that hovers on the border between drifty ambient and deeper spacemusic. Well worth a listen.

LOL...don't you know that if they know they can not play hardly at all, the thing to do is to crank the volume to 11 to drown their lousy playing out so no one will notice their lousy playing:)

Everything and Nothing / Re: Which is it??

These are some good comments guys...keep them coming...
Yeah, I totally agree in that we are doing it for the art..for the love of it...

Mike: my gear switching change is not for the money, etc, but something I have loved since I was little doing is creating fictional worlds and try to let other people enjoy them as much as I have....
like what was said before...we all use are different creative methods, being either music, photography, writing, etc, but we all love our craft...

Everything and Nothing / Which is it??
« on: November 25, 2010, 09:55:19 AM »
I have kind of switched gears from music to creative writing and was reading yesterday about one's craft in that do you do it for the fame and money or do you do it for the love of it???
If you do love your craft and look around at the other people that are doing it just for the fame and money, do you have despise for them??

Esp since our art is ever changing from what we use to know to new things, so would one continue writing for your craft even though you know maybe the art you love is dying???

I would love to hear from listeners too about what they think...
