Hi Mike....I think my last post was a bit misleading.

I was trying to suggest that Flac is like old school analog recording and the quality of the sound and mp3 is like modern digital in the box recordings.....a confusing mix of idea Im using to express myself.

A Flac recording does sound or should sound identical to the source cd or wave.....what Im say is to my ears in my studio there is a difference. An mp3 has a harshness to the sound quality compared to a Flac recording.  It is a subjective thing.  The maths explains why I could hear what Im hearing...beyond that its not easy to point to.  If your fortunate to have listened to music through really good & honest equipment.....the two dont always go together, then you will hear it, the difference that is. 

Personally the idea of listening/purchasing music that has had parts of its content removed to fit into a format for mobile listening and easy digital distribution does not do anything for me....thats like buying a sofa and cutting part of it off to fit through the front door.

Ok...I'l shake some stuff up here and jump in with my own purely selfish collaboration wish...I would love to do an album of my ethic percussion and synth playing with Saul Stokes wonderfully weird synth and percussion scapes and Jeff Pearce's guitar and stick playing!!!

That would be an epic performance...I can already hear it in my head!

I just watched this again....in many ways, at least for me, it little manifesto, albeit, somewhat erudite, of what I search for and find in ambient music.

For years I have had on again off again "interest" in Airstream Trailers, it started when I first got this LP...



Have this idea of creating a little Airstream compound, perhaps 3 in a U shape, garden in the middle, etc....not sure if I could live in just one.  Where is the studio going to go?

Special post Mike......it touches my heart that in this world of icy cold techno-capitalism there is a purity of vision that works within the rape, rampage and pillage of our everyday world...sorry for being over dramatic but still and yet, that was a sales tool for apple that Jobs tapped into...a little techno-capitalistic madison avenue slight of hand.

Not so....that was a dreamer, who saw through it and still somehow brought the giant to his knees.

Thats true Mike....its not the mastering engineers fault, they supply a service to their clients. This is such a huge and thorny topic it scares me to talk about it so openly

Not sure I have ever come across a lazy mastering engineer. Bad mastering, yes and usually homespun.
