Celer - Cursory Asperses
David Tollefson - Near And Far
Steve Roach - Dream Circle
Interstitial - Temporal Arc

Put me down as very excited.  Mainly because of Abrams.  And now that the preview word of mouth is good, I am definitely psyched for the movie.

I've just posted an all vocal mix over at Low Light Mixes.  A vocal mix is a rarity over at Low Light, but this one, called "Refuge", still has an ambient sort of feel to it as most of the tunes are fairly quiet.

I've got a couple of songs from Martin Grech in the mix.  His release "March of the Lonely" made it on to my best of 2008 list.  I had to restrain myself from putting in too much David Sylvian, but he did end up with two tracks.  I included an old track from Roxy Music which is a vinyl rip that I did years ago, so there are a few pops & scratches that sneak in there.

Here's another thumbs up for Alan's mixes.  Most recently I've been listening to his best of 2008 mixes, an excellent selection of tracks.  I often go back to the "Great Axescapes" series as well.

Today's playlist includes...

ambrose field - being dufay [ecm] - an absolutely amazing album.  John Potter(Hilliard Ensemble) sings fragments of works by composer Guillaume Dufay (1397-1494).  The vocals are accompanied by live- and studio electronics performed by Ambrose Field, recycling and reworking Potter’s vocal input.  The result is spectacular.  Here their website...Being Dufay

According to my 16 yr old's not cool for someone my age to say "dude".  She also doesn't like it when girls/women use the word "dude".

The favorite word for my 14 yr old son & his knucklehead friends is..."pants".  They just think it's a funny word.  They've taken to using it as an exclamation..."What the pants?!!".

A favorite word of mine is Fizbo.  It's not really a word, I use it to refer to people & it sort of replaces "dude" as in "Hey Fizbo, when are we going to the movie?" or "Let's meet in Fizbo's office."  I had a boss that used the term to refer to anybody on his staff.  Apparently it is a real estate term that means For Sale By Owner, FSBO.  He just appropriated it to refer to anybody.

A few other irritations that I just thought of...adding "ing" to words that shouldn't have "ing" such as "efforting" or "partnering".  I guess those may fall under the category of "office-speak" which I hate.  Words & phrases like "repurposing" "synergy" "paradigm shifts" "incentivise" "going forward" blah blah blah.

I've got another mix up at Low Light Mixes.  It's called "shadows at midnight."

I've been loving the new release from Jon Hassell so I wanted to do a mix that had a late-night jazz sort of feel to it.  The mix is fairly straight forward, no great segues or fx triple layers of sound.  But I think the tunes flow nicely together & keep a melancholy, moody jazz feel going throughout.

Download : 110mb 60min.

Boomkat 14tracks - 14 tracks of heartache and longing
Daniel Lanois - Omni Series box - thanks to Mark M. for pointing this one out in an earlier post.  This is a 3 cd set.  One cd is called Steel & features Lanois playing pedal steel guitar.  The cd titled, Purple Vista is "a mixuture of laboratory sonics & hand played instruments.  The third cd is called Santiago and is a recording of Lanois & his band.  Excellent recording.

When did basketball players go from being tall to being long?  I can't stand analysts saying things like "U-Conn plays with a lot of length."

Sports are good for a ton of words & phrases that should be be banned.  A few recent ones that come to mind...

"It is what it is."
"Manny being Manny"
"at the end of the day..."
"under the bus"

Working in TV news I see cliched, poor writing everyday.  A few words/phrases that get overused include...

under fire
recent memory
killing spree
fled on foot
campaign trail
in harm's way
area residents

I just put up a new mix over at Low Light Mixes

It's collection of field recordings & music called "in_transit".  The field recordings are not of the chirping birds & lapping waves variety.  They are more like street noise, rain, crowd sounds and trains, lots of trains.  I don't have a tracklist but I do have a more in depth explanation of what's in the mix(ie-Blade Runner environments) at the blog.

You can direct download it here...

or at the blog...Low Light Mixes.

Everything and Nothing / Re: Fringe - anyone watching this show?
« on: February 14, 2009, 12:55:12 PM »
I've been watching all year & really enjoying it.  As for the female lead, we were discussing her at work & comparing her to another female lead in another Fox show, Dollhouse.  Eliza Dushku stars in Dollhouse & the problem there is she is too hot.  The woman in Fringe is just right, very attractive but not over the top & very smart, which makes her sexier.

Dushku walking around in tank tops(or one of the shortest dresses I've ever seen) is just distracting.
