i know there is a numina thread but this cd merits its own. this is - easily - jesse's best work!
the atmospheres are full of subtle nuances and descriptive washes. it  says - "hey, listen to me again" in a very subtle fashion.
great stuff, jesse!

Everything and Nothing / mulholland drive
« on: December 02, 2008, 03:51:55 PM »
finally saw this movie yesterday and i am confused as hell! i loved the movie but i have no f$%#ing idea what happened. it was all very surreal and looks like it could have been imagined or dreamed.
(naomi watts and larura harring were awesome in more ways than one!)

Other Ambient (and related) Music / 2 eno titles
« on: November 17, 2008, 03:55:05 PM »
i picked up brain candy and textural ambiguities on ebay. the seller states that they are official eno releases but i am wary. the titles do not sound like eno's style. the artwork does not look like his style either. and they are limited edition releases on dr. dream. there is some cool music and some stuff that is claimed to be previously unreleased but i think i smell a rat.

steve philips has remastered, enhanced and re-issued this disc - thank you, steve! this was from a 1997 concert in denver and was totally cutting edge then and still stands out today! phenomenal cd and highly recommended!

Everything and Nothing / zack and miri make a porno
« on: November 01, 2008, 12:14:08 PM »
this movie rocks and a half! i laughed out loud several times. seth rogen was hilarious and elizabeth banks is always good (but not naked  :'(). it is definitely a hard core r but the nudity is not offensive.

Everything and Nothing / automated political announcements
« on: October 29, 2008, 05:01:10 PM »
i am so f#@$ing offended by this tactic. to pick up my phone and hear a tape recorded message from "obama's change coalition" or to hear governor ed rendell (asshole x 10 in my book) stumping for obama or any political message is just so f@*&ing insulting! if i did not know who i was going to support i would learn who to dis with these tactics. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Everything and Nothing / THE RETURN OF TATU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
« on: October 23, 2008, 02:28:54 PM »
i decided that this merits its own thread because it is not really a rigel orionis topic.
a good friend of mine approached me recently and stated that he wanted to publish tracks across the universe: a chronology of ambient and electronic music - update to 2008/09, of course - as a real book, not a notebook or sheaf of papers or a cdr. well, it took me about .0005 seconds to say 'ok." we have been working out the details over the past month or so and we will be:
1.) publishing and selling the book with the original 3 discs that accompanied it.
2.) offering the discs from the expanded set for sale either individually or in a set or sets through his label.
i have been sending e-mails all day and the support has been tremendous. (thank you all!) i will take this opportunity to extend an invitation to others who might want to participate in the expanded cdr set. e-mail me at jbrenholts@comcast.net and i will give you some details.
while i did identify my friend and benefactor in the e-mails, i will not do so here. that will be for him to make an announcement or whatever later. rest assured that he is solid and well-known to most of you.
if you would like to participate, please contact me at jbrenholts@comcast.net
now,
 ;D ;D ;D ;D :o :o :o :o

Other Ambient (and related) Music / space for music
« on: October 21, 2008, 07:34:47 AM »
has space for music gone under? i surfed to the web site and it is not there. i have heard nothing from or about tony, giles, john or diane for quite some time. does anybody know what is going on? (i do see giles pop up on collaborations here and there.)

Everything and Nothing / ebow
« on: September 28, 2008, 08:31:48 AM »
this might be the coolest instrument/device i have yet. but - as usual - i have a little bit of a problem. the ebow works on two strings of my dulcimer and two strings on each of my violins. it doesn't work on my bass, my guitar or my lap harp (that would be a very cool sound). is there a trick or are these just tempermental devices? or are they supposed to work on electric instruments only?

Other Ambient (and related) Music / kenji siratori
« on: September 22, 2008, 05:11:00 PM »
i bid on a cd batch (something like $10 for 4 discs) and got them today. all are by kenji siratori, a japanese artist who does some awesome dark ambient with some slight noise elements. this is some first rate stuff that would appeal to fans of lustmord, rapoon, lull and true color of blood, among others. very nice stuff and highly recommended!

Other Ambient (and related) Music / klaus schulze
« on: July 02, 2008, 06:17:49 PM »
the klauster does not get much mention here - primarily because he does not do a lot of ambient music. however, when he does perform ambient he is awesome!
i picked up kontinuum recently and it has an excellent ambient track - thor clocking in at 31'42." it has some sequencing in it and some percussion but the drones and atmospheres are sweet and they dominate the soundscape. it is worth $8 or $9 at a used cd site. (i got it at www.half.com for about $10 after shipping.)

typical mike meyers - mariska hargitay mariska hargitay was priceless! and any movie with jessica alba has to be worth at least 2 points.

Everything and Nothing / the incredible hulk
« on: June 29, 2008, 07:59:38 AM »
cameos by lou ferrigno and bill bixby (courtship of eddie's father on a tv screen) were subtle and cool! the movie was typical but well acted.
