I like Spotify and use it to research music I would like to purchase. It therefore generates purchases that I might not otherwise make. I do also recall an article from Sam Rosenthall at Projekt saying that he had changed his view somewhat re streaming etc as it was beginning to generate reasonable amounts for the label.

I have to say also I absolutely love bandcamp for the same reason, purchase many downloads and even stream using the app more often than not.

CDs, vinyl and cassettes  ;D will still continue to be purchased however storage after a lifetime of collecting music is now a major issue. Thank goodness for downloads in that regard.

Tangerine Dream - Oasis

and then the first track from Seven Letters From Tibet....no rhythm and stunning atmosphere...

I really like Oasis. Spent many moons trying track down the dvd/vhs to see the visuals the music was written for. No luck.

Also , Seven Letters, beautiful music. One of the albums that pointed me in the direction of ambient music. Thanks TD .

Current play -

Roach/ Braheny - Western Spaces , so beautiful .

Thanks Castleview for highlighting Desert Soiltaire. Reminded me this was one one I still had to hear. No sign of it on bandcamp which has probably contributed to me missing it. Had to pick it up on iTunes. Fantastic album, a real mix of styles. I had some tracks on the Desert Collection disc but it is great to hear the rest of this wonderful album. Also picked up Western Spaces which is equally magnificent. Great stuff.

I am liking the sound of these Roach and Rich action figures :) could even get wee synths and assorted musical instruments for them to stand beside.  8)

Interesting thread. I am also increasingly concerned regarding the state of our world and society. Perhaps things will improve. I doubt it.

Enjoy coppicing my Cornus shrubs when required. Pruning is quite therapeutic and satisfying I find. I have tried to plant native, indigenous shrubs and trees in my new build garden. It has been quite a challenge starting from scratch but just about there now. Favourite trees have to be Rowans. Managed to plant about six different sorbus species .

I live in a very rural location however I like to escape to this wilderness ;

Glent Tilt, near Blair Athol. Just a bit up the road from me, try to get up to Highland Perthshire at least twice a year. There are remnants and hints of the ancient Caledonian Forest here. Covered the entire country in ancient times. A lot of work being done to preserve and increase these areas. Itís worth it .........

Since buying The Lost Pieces last week I have been in Steve Roach mode.

Been listening to some of the releases I donít own yet on Spotify. There seem to be a fair few albums added recently. Of all of those listened to, favourites are ;

Invisible
Soul Tones
A Deeper Silence
and
The Desert Inbetween

Great music that must be acquired.

The Lost Pieces was one of the first albums of his I got after Origins which I think was a bit of a mistake, had a tough time really getting into it but it is a compilation of sorts rather than a concept record. It's one I would certainly revisit now though having delved deeper into his early work and some more of his collaborations. Have you heard Eclipse Mix? I'm a bit uncertain about jumping into those "long-form" type of albums of his but that one in particular looks pretty interesting. Any others you may recommend like that?

Hi there AVMO. I have listened to Ecipse Mix. Not sure of it yet, was working whilst it was playing and initially found it a bit heavy on the bass rumble and thus too much whilst trying to concentrate on other matters. Will have to give it another go without distraction.

Off the top of my head, If we are talking long form, I would highly recommend ;

The Passing- melancholy but utterly beautiful
Invisible - Dark and interesting.
A Deeper Silence

And you seriously cannot go wrong with the Structures from Silence - remastered triple masterpiece.

Thanks for mentioning the new Northaunt Chris. Superb piece of work.

Cvac - FAXology is a great album indeed. Totally get the name thing  ;D I thought exactly the same when this was recommended to me when released on FAX. I would also recommend Mickís release on Carpe Sonum - Modes and the ...txt epic Exulansis if indeed you havenít already checked them out. Both available on bandcamp. He is also half of Autumn Of Communion , which I am sure you will be aware of.

cp; Kloob - Remarkable Events

Your welcome cvac, glad you like these releases.

The earlier EIS release on ...txt ď Hidden HarmonicĒ is also superb and recommended.

I am impressed with this Winter Light label just purchased the latest .....

Kloob - Remarkable Events - Mainly dark themes, but hints of melody and subtle voices. The first track develops subtly into a more Berlin School type thing but this is an ambient album of high quality.

Also purchased;

Steve Roach - The Lost Pieces . Superb
Northaunt - Istid III , haunting beauty from the frozen Northlands

Recently:

Forrest Fang - Scenes From a Ghost Train

Another stunning album from Forrest. He really is on a roll with high quality, beautiful, ambient soundscape albums. And album covers it has to be said, what superb artwork. This music has been on constant play for a couple of weeks now. Completely immersive.

New release from Neil Butler on ...txt. This is a great release: The perfect bridge between modern ambient and 90s/00s-style Fax ambient.

Still been purchasing loads of FAX, just about there now ;)

Otras2, Fanger & Siebert, Modula Green, A New Conciousness 2. All superb.

However here is an important mention for an absolutely stunning new ambient release;

Bridge to Imla - The Radiant Sea on the Winter-Light label. Michael Brueckner and Hans-Dieter Schmidt have created something really special here. Deep oceanic ambience with hints of melody and mystery. Atmospheric in the extreme. A top release of 2017. Do yourself a favour and acquire this wonderful album;

PS I also downloaded the Seetyca - Winterlicht album, deep dark winter atmospheres. Also excellent.

Interesting, sounds right up my street, especially as the "nichts are fair drawin' in" here, as we say in this part of the world.

I like winter (as long as its not too long and extreme) and I like my dark ambient in winter , so all is good. Look forward to checking this out later today.
