The two new Carpe Sonum releases have arrived here....

Bubble - OI ..................Krystian Shek - Sometimes Not.

The Bubble is a really beautiful, dreamy, drifting ambient album. The Shek is a mixture of styles but mainly ambient and is very, very FAX like indeed. Both are superb and can be found on the Carpe Sonum bandcamp page.

The quality of the music and artwork coming from this label is fantastic.

Most of my FAX albums were purchased on download (and we are talking a lot of albums here  :) ) I have only purchased my favourites on CD/DTS. Still have one or two to acquire however I would say my absolute faves are ....

Namlook/Moufang XX Taygete..................... Namlook XXI Subconscious World

plus Namlook/Montana Labyrinth V.

All are stunning albums and in DTS surround are pure, awesomely, wonderful.

PS   Also not keen on VV6 .....Virtual Vices 4 is however the Dogz B*llox and was my first ever FAX purchase. Hooked me right in so it did  8)

Just got this..........

The Great Schizm - The Sleeper's Night Journey

New discovery for me. Beautiul album. A mixture of warm, mysterious and dark ambient. On bandcamp here......https://thegreatschizm.bandcamp.com/album/the-sleepers-night-journey

The UFO live album - Strangers In The Night - is one of thee best live albums ever.  8)

Fantastic melody orientated metal. I saw them on that tour in 79/80. Blew me away at the time, still enjoy this very much when I listen to it occasionally.

Maybe slightly o/t but my favourite guitarists/bands are......

Steve Howe - Yes
Robin Trower - check out For Earth Below.
Wishbone Ash - early stuff up to about 1980/ Just Testing. Twin lead geetars  8)
Thin Lizzy,
Sabbath,
Rush,

better stop there as it may be a long list....

Being a Scot, it would be complete and utter sacrilege punishable by possible imprisonment if any other countries "whisky" product was consumed  :P  ;) I have covertly consumed the occasional Jack Daniels in a surreptitious manner. Very nice.

Rather than drinking three pints of beer at the theatre the other night, decided to go for three drams instead to reduce the need for requiring to go to the wee boys room  :-[  Like the other lads have mentioned I only usually have one whisky, maybe two, so this was unusual for me.

1) Jura. Long, long time since I had this ! Very, very nice indeed. I didn't get a look at the bottle but it was beautifully aged, clearly in sherry wood. Will definitely have to investigate this one further.

2) Highland Park, Orkneys finest. Enjoyed it but will have to give it another go.

3) Talisker. Definitely nectar of the gods, made in Skye form peat and girders ( ;)) this is my favourite of all whiskies, without a doubt.

Also enjoyed the play (dragged by wife) so was a very pleasant evening indeed.

Glenrothes, quite a heavy whisky on the nose, almost 25 years since I tasted that one.

Aberlour a lighter dram and I seem to remember rather pleasant.

Glenfiddich also a lighter flavour but a nice easy malt to drink. Always liked it.

Auchentoshan was always one of my favourites. A light, lowland malt. The only one which is triple distilled I think. Never tried the three wood (which sounds fantastic) and therefore must endeavour to do so.

Funnily enough, without seeing either of these on here, I have just finished.....

The Martian - Andy Weir. Had seen it on amazon, where a review had given away the ending  ::) or so I thought. Book sounded interesting though and when I saw it in the book shop in paperback I was going to buy it, until I saw the size of the print within..... very wee..... thus I bought it on Kindle. Thoroughly enjoyed it, very tense and addictive tale.

Also today in Waterstones noticed John Scalzi - Lock in for the first time. Sounds very interesting indeed. Good to see it recommended on here. Imminent purchase then,  :)

Just back from a short break in Highland Perthshire where I visited this place...........

The smallest distillery in Scotland where everything is hand made by the three distillery workers.

I purchased this........

and thereafter partook of said amber nectar of the gods, at my holiday place, looking out over this landscape one afternoon in the late summer sun....

Very pleasant indeed.

PS Julio .....this dram also tasted wonderful in the distillery tasting room  ;) 8)

Well I have only been here since Dec 2013 but have thoroughly enjoyed the posts here. Ambient music has really taken over my life, well okay, my listening this past 3 years or so. Thus it is highly appropriate I have found this place.

My own music has always been guitar orientated rock with side projects of African/Scottish/instrumental concepts. However I am being inspired by listening to some stunning ambient music recently and my studio will be getting fired up again over the winter months for some deep ambient research and playing. Hopefully this guitarist/Djembe player will be picking up some tips from the wealth of experience and musicianship on here  :D

Favourite thread on this website............has to be..........Currently Listening  8)

Silence V in particular is something very special. An ambient masterpiece.......for me.

This Robert Rich performance has been posted elsewhere, don't know if any of you have seen it or if the link is on here somewhere. Absolutely fantastic to see and hear this.......

Got the kindle app for my ipod touch and iphone. Very useful indeed for emergency reading when out and about. So had to get some SciFi downloaded thereon. Gave this series a try.......

Jeffrey A Carver - The Chaos Chronicles.

A human mining operative working on Triton is possessed by an alien being. Said alien wants him to save Earth from a catastrophic event. There is some quite humorous interaction between the two lifeforms.

Book 1 very good indeed, the second Strange Attractors - mmmhh not as engaging. Had to get the third book though to find out what happens ( the usual quandary ). It is excellent so far.

I think you meant Hanging MASSES.  Not to be confused with the Cure's Hanging GARDEN...

Actually it's a special, limited edition Ultimae release............. which is a hybrid Cell album combined with  Carbon Based Lifeforms - Hydroponic Garden.

PS That is bollox and you are quite correct Drone On  ;)

Carbon Based Lifeforms-23.I knew about the label,Ultimae, and thought is was downtempo trance. But this CBL is all ambient,no beats and well recorded.Gentle melodies in there mixed with field recordings.

I have a fair few Ultimae releases. Got the "Carbon Pack" a while back which is the first 3 CBL releases. Very high quality melodic orientated ambient. Haven't listened for a good while so will dig them out this week :). Also have Aes Dana, Hybrid Leisure Land, James Murray, Solar Fields, Sync 24. All high quality stuff. Best of the lot though is Cell - Hanging Gardens, stunning.

Bizarrely, the one I listen to most is the I Awake - Birth EP, beat orientated melodic ambient. This is my shower music, perfect length for a good long soak and loud enough to hear over the shower as ambient is a bit tricky in that regard.  Too much info there but hey ho, great music  ;)

Just received these in the mail:

Mick Chillage--Saudade
Miss Garden--In the Silence of the Subconscious
Lee Norris/Porya Hatami--The Longing Daylight

All on the Carpe Sonum label, started recently by the guy who runs Ear Rational and was the US distributor for Fax records...

Excellent albums, all of them high quality and very difficult to chose between. Great label Carpe Sonum. Looking forward to the Bubble, Krystian Shek, AOC4 and new Heckman releases.
