I recently purchased Floating Whispers by Michael Stearns and have been listening to it pretty regularly. What a lovely album. Stearns made so much great music in the 80s.
In a similar vein, I also got the Imaginary Softwoods LP called Path of Spectrolite, which is neo-cosmic music by John Elliott of Emeralds. Really beautiful music, all on vintage synths, I believe.

Not to hijack the thread, but Rapoon's set was awesome and made me explore a few of his most recent albums. Can't say they grabbed me much, though I suppose I can't help but compare them to the analog stuff he was doing in the 90s, which is my favorite. The last one I could truly say I connected with was Time Frost on Glacial Movements.
I got the box set from Forced Exposure, btw. Looks intriguing and the VoD package can't be beat if the O Yuki Conjugate set is any indicator.

Hey guys!
I know I've been terrible at making new podcasts for Quiet Sounds (and it didn't help that my Wordpress installation got hacked). But I got my act together and put a new one up last night. This one features all kinds of ambient tracks with vocals (I had so much interesting material I had to omit some of it). Have a listen when you get a chance!

I love CDs and LPs, but don't have much patience with tapes or CDR. I guess downloading files is good, but unless I really liked the music (ie. Eluder free EPs, etc.) I generally either deleted the files or forgot about them. My old G5 probably has a ton of downloads on its drive and that thing is up in the attic with a busted video card.
Mike brings up the boutique labels on a much earlier post as compared to small press SF/F publishers. It's a cool model and I think it can lead to a lot of awesome products. It's a double-edged sword to me, though, for the same reasons the small press publishers can be annoying. High prices on "art editions" (the price point definitely makes a big difference to me because, at the core, I'm just interested in the music), vaporware editions that disappear instantly and are then sold on the second-hand market for big bucks, and wildly divergent philosophies when it comes to quality control on the materials used in their construction.

Got mine on Saturday. The Parnham collaboration is a real winner and the Immersion discs are a nice change from the more static earlier volumes in the series. I bought this box with the Grace Cathedral concert disc, and that's the one I've been playing most. What an awesome concert that must have been.

I've purchased them from Stefano in the past, but the exchange rate can be so lousy. For this round (since there are four releases), I waited for them to show up at Projekt. Bought them last week, though the box hasn't arrived yet.
I always look forward to new Alio Die discs. Was just playing the newer one with Parallel Worlds this morning. Great stuff.

I have read a little Scalzi, but I failed to see what the excitement was about. Personally, I like my fiction with a little more ... technical flair. But then, I have never much cared for Heinlein either. Some of Heinlein's characters and themes have such an arrogance to them; very off-putting to me, even as a teenager. I do enjoy Joe Haldeman very much. I loved his post-Vietnam reworking on Heinlein in Forever War. I really need to read a few more of his works. When I was in the sci-fi biz, I had dinner with him a few times and he was always calm, charming, and, above all, very wise.
I recently read two Robert B. Parker westerns (Appaloosa and Resolution) and then a book by Jack Vance called Eyes of the Overworld. All were very entertaining. I am now reading an old book from 1915 about a naughty highwayman called Dr. Syn by Russell Thorndyke.

Hey Joe, I didn't care for that latest Solo Andata much either. I haven't give it enough plays, but it definitely did not impress me immediately.
Have not played Chalk's Cable House much either, but Ghost of Nahodka is def. going to appear on my best of 2010 list.

Akismet is outstanding, and there's also another plugin that forces commenters to complete a simple math problem. I've got them both implemented on my version of WP and I hardly ever get spam.

I bought the app last week and have been enjoying it a lot. Played it while I read at the pool this weekend and felt that I'd never really dug deeply enough into the DVD version purely because the thing was so long!
I would not say it is a "replacement" for the original album, but it is a fun way to enjoy and interact with it. I thought the sound quality was adequate for on-the-go listening and I really enjoy the constantly shifting vignettes from the "real" record. I'd say, at 99¢, this is a gem.

I've got a 12" with Ultrasound on it. It's a split with Drona Parva on Time Lag. Both sides are very good. It's a tribute to Popol Vuh, though the music is a bit more electronic than the usual PV fare.

Another very fine set.
I really like Brian's podcasts, but sometimes he takes long breaks from doing them. Sort of how sometimes a record label takes long breaks from releasing CDs!
Sorry, guys. I took a new job in February and haven't had much "quiet time" to get one going. I have the newest episode all planned out (for the most part), but no time in which to execute!
