Virgin Black - Requiem - Fortissimo = GODLINESS!  WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Rowan can certainly growl with the best of him! This is the 3rd of the trilogy of releases, Requiem - Pianissimo is still to be released down the road and is the first of the three. Don't ask me why they released them in #2, #3, #1 in that order. #2 is very symphonic and this one revisits some of the music from the 2nd release. VERY heavy, angelic female vocals, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra used again on it. Utter despair on this baby! It'll be getting several rotations to allow me to let it all seep in! Plus they're coming on tour again to the US (were here last year but couldn't get to NY to see them during the week...  >:( ) with Amorphis, Leaves Eyes and Samael (gonna be a killer show!). Very much looking forward to this one to see them finally! I hope to meet them as well.

Disincarnate - Dreams of the Carrion Kind (james murphy - ex-death/obituary/testament) and this is a classic from '93 for technical death metal! I had to get it since I never owned the original and this is remastered with 3 bonus tracks.

Did I say how amazing the new VB is yet?!  ::) I've got all their releases except the EP which I can't seem to find....great musicianship/lyrics (interesting)/arrangements. NOT for the faint of heart.

Hi Mike,
I'm thinking you mean samples for Villa Gallaxia? I should have some samples ready the end of next month.

Hi Saul,

No, I was talking about VAST. I will have to check out your site again soon and poke around.

Aren't they the makers of Melodyne? I thought in that you could manipulate the notes provided you had expanded things out to see them within the waveform? My buddy has it, it's an interesting piece of software. I am not sure how often he uses it though.

Hey Mike, since you're "rocking" Vista, maybe you'll enjoy this video:

OMFG....are they RETARDED!? GOD that was AWFUL! Man, that was pretty lame if you ask me! Especially trying to spoof sprinsteen......

Title of the release will be Bathys. At this point I'm not going to make any announcement as you'll be hearing it soon enough here somewhere ;-)  Working out details on it. But it's coming soon! Yay!

DS, I use ableton as my main brain these days. I wrote VAST on Sonar and it was really hard for me. A few friends kept nagging me to try live and as soon as I did I realized it's perfect for the way I write my music.  I like the simple nature of the program and I also really like the closed instuments and effects.  I wrote Villa Galaxia entirely in Live.

Hi Saul, DS (Mike) here. Nice to know! I'm still learning this beast even though I've been using it for some time now (well...having gotten into it back in 3.02 days and slowly messing with it, really slowly....). There's a lot to it than meets the eye IMHO. I am still waiting on m-audio but they have yet to respond to my request to beta test the drives (3 wks since I think I put in the request). Maybe because I flamed them for taking so long on getting Vista 64 drivers as a way of getting back? If that's the case I'll move on to other hardware!  Not that I am running Vista all the time, I haven't fired it up in weeks. I suppose I should but I'm avoiding SP1 for the time being due to issues still with it apparently.

Do you have samples of VAST online at your site? I'll have to go take a look.

Well I am currently listening to Rapoon - Time Frost. I am really enjoying the final track - Ice Whispers - which clocks in at over 34 mins in length! It's shimmering movement and darker tone is awesome! The others were on the lighter side for me but were ok. But the last one is definitely my favorite as it shifts/shimmers along the way. Nicely done!

Next up is Oophoi's An Aerial View.

I put in to get onto the beta testing for Vista 64 driver testing but haven't heard from M-Audio yet on it. I'll check to see if they have anything available as beta tonight. I just noticed it last week when I went to check on any updates there. It's for my Delta66 card which Vista doesn't know about. I'm also probably going to stay away from SP1 until they fix some issues with it/re-release it.

Saul, that almost looks like Ableton Live but I don't know what platform you work on (windows/apple).

Here's a link associated with the topic. LOTS of stuff here and you can upload your own once you sign up there.

I had another one but can't find it in my current bookmarks. I'll post it later when I sift through mail for the site.

Well I have 6 tracks completed with a run time of about 49 mins. I am on the fence if I want to bump it into the ~55-60 minute range. Now I have to start thinking/working on some mock-up artwork for this one. All titles in greek via english-greek translation dictionary online. Some titles may not be pronounced right (hey, I'm not greek so....  ;D ). Still debating on the title, one of the songs or something that may cover what they are about....probably a song title that would encompass most of the tracks. I'll figure it out. I don't have any samples of them online at this time, not sure if I will just yet, if so they'll be at artistserver, myspace possibly and I need to put some newer stuff up at my old soundclick account.

Finally got caught up as of last night with all the episodes I DVR'd. And after talking to my buddy I understand now what the Oceanic 6 refers to. I had no clue! And the episode where Sun has the baby and Jin is running around getting the Panda....then he's at the Ambassadors room to drop it off had me going..."What?". After talking to my buddy last night now I get it. Future/Past split between the two of them. Strange/twisted if you ask me. But it certainly has been a good season! Now to sit down and start watching the Sarah Connor Chronicles which I haven't even watched (all DVR'd) I have time to get caught up on it as well. But now we wait only till 4/24 for more Lost episodes!

Darkened Soul--
You could have ordered Rapoon's GM disc from for (I think I paid) $18, or could have been $16, shipping included.  Direct ordernig from Mr. Storey has been very cost effective for me. :-)

Yeah, I'll probably hold off getting things from across the pond if I can get them in the US from other places, like the artists themselves. I'll try to remember next time!

I made mine in I think 320kbps for high quality mp3's in the zip file off my website (have to register to be able to get to it). It's also at website which includes artwork and also at as well (probably no artwork there for it). I find that when I make a track in Ableton I have to load it into Sound Forge and resave it as a Wave file after usually taking out extra silence or tweaking fade in/out on it. Then I render it to an mp3 as well at anywhere from 128-256kpbs depending on where I am going to upload it. I use Nero pretty much exclusively for burning. I also don't burn at max speed, I drop it down to usually 8-16x and use Wave files when I do CD-R's that come through via any sales off website. I have to get the shopping cart fixed as something isn't quite right after creating an account and logging into it.

The Shining - Halmstad
Moonsorrow - forget title of album, good one though if you like pagan metal sung in native tongue mostly
Evoken - A Caress of the Void (man, I've been listening to this one QUITE a bit in the past week in the em!)

Another track done on sunday so a couple/few more and I may send Mike Griffin a demo of it to see what he thinks for Secret Sounds release. I should really start thinking about artwork on this one too as well as a title for it....

I just ordered the Oophoi and Rapoon CD's this morning from GM. I hate the Euro conversion.... ;-( >$50 for two discs! I think I'll wait next time for getting them thru someplace in the US....but still looking forward to them. I believe I have both of the others (I know I have Cryosphere and think I got Netherworld...not I gotta go dig em up).

Well it's up and running. I had to take the locking tab bracket out to get the video card to seat properly and be able to be locked down. Currently overclocked to 3.330Ghz and will be replacing the stock cooler with the Zalman now that I figure out it latches to the base vs screws in like the 9700 NT did. So clean CPU top, re-apply the grease, seat cooler and latch it down and put it all back together again and see how the temps are at that point. Overclocking temps are pretty good (less than 60c under load compared to high 60's on the E6850 system).

So far I am quite happy with it.

All parts are in as of yesterday! So now I may start on putting it together tonight and see if everything fires up ok. Depends on mobo layout w/regards to wiring from case. It'll be up tomorrow at the latest barring any failed components. Fingers crossed! For memory I went with Crucial Ballistix Tracer this time. I have Corsair Dominator in the other new system (4Gb).

I thought I had a thread here....oh well, if so, move to it please!

I am building a replacement for my main PC which is on 24x7. The specs are below. Cost ~$1450

Thermaltake Armor full tower
Thermaltake Toughpower 600W PSU (cable management which I like)
ABit IP35 Pro mobo
E8400 3.0Ghz Penryn CPU
Zalman 9500 HFS/cooler
2x640Gb SATA II HD's
XFX 8800GT 512Mb Extreme video card
Samsung SATA Optical DVD burner
2Gb DDR2-800 memory

I don't know if I'll be overclocking this one yet seeing it'll be on 24x7. I may do it a smidge (10% maybe ;-)

My DAW/Game system is:
Thermaltake Armor case
Thermaltake Toughpower 700W PSU (cable management which I like)
E6850 Conroe 3.0Ghz CPU OC'd to 3.6Ghz
4Gb (1024x4) Corsair Dominator memory
XFX 8800GTS 640Mb Extreme video card
Zalman 9700 NT HFS/Cooler
Samsung optical SATA DVD burner
2x500Gb SATA II HD's RAID 0 (for performance)
1x500Gb SATA II HD for audio/game installs
This one cost me ~$1900 back in october but had ~$120 in rebates. I have one/two for new build. Prices now would have saved me probably ~$200 or more due to price drops on stuff. I was going to go for the Q9450 Quad Penryn but decided not to seeing a) not many programs take advantage of multicore CPUs still and b) I read it only had an 8x multiplier vs 9x which limits how far you can crank it up to. I've read people have gotten the E8400 to 4.0Ghz on air cooling. I don't plan on going that high! I have learned that it's better to overclock with only 2 sticks of memory vs 4 as things get a bit trickier when you have 4 sticks. So 2x2Gb is easier to OC than 4x1Gb sticks as an FYI. Also a lot of good info in the forum on overclocking and builds in general. Same for forums.

I should be running the new system this weekend as the rest of the parts are due in thursday! So I know what I'm doing saturday during the day. Installing the hardware then XP Pro SP2 and partitioning it to maybe put Vista 32 bit ultimate on it when I get it from MS from doing a survey on my other new system.
