Computers, Internet and Technology / Re: Guild Wars 2
« on: March 27, 2013, 03:23:51 AM »
Ele, Mes and Guardian are lvl 80, got some nice armor/acutriments for those 3 but need to grind for coin to get runes mats to make them or buy them due to the cost of them alone... Living Story was updated and I did 2 parts of it last night (watch discussion between Rytlok and the 2 others then assist them in battles). So it was a fairly big update recently (again). Got a human ranger and sylvari thief (finding them rather weak (thief) in general). Still grinding away and curse shore is a bear solo...

I have Duran Duran - Rio in there and I don't recall when I bought that (way way long time ago if so....) among other albums. I think I have 2xx more songs that can be put up there by myself. I don't think it reflects anything I purchase from amazon but will have to check that after next purchase. Kind of nice when I don't want to mount up my network share from my WHS or while at work vs playing what I've ripped to company laptop....

OK, apparently we came from the DNA of the Engineers, got that - check....we find them, one left alive goes spazzo and kills most and tries to leave the planet headed for earth to deliver the aliens....WHY? It'll be interesting to see if a) he does complete the sequel and b) how the lone woman heading to Engineer planet deals with things/what happens there....

I thought they were on earth when the one engineer drinks the nasty black goo and transforms while falling into the water and DNA dissolves/changes/re-combines...I thought that he was on Earth and most say the same.... and we have the evil robot and I knew what he was going to do once he said "organic" then met the buzzed scientist in the lounge...

So what do you all think will come from the next movie? I want to know why they want to launch the aliens to our planet for one thing, secondly I don't think it has been answered as to how/why they created the aliens (did they? still not sure here...). Still was a decent movie overall....but I am trying to figure out how the one person changed to look like an Engineer and was kicking major ass on the crew...who was he? The irishman was dead, other one got impregnated and I am not sure if he was brought back to the ship....if he was...then why was he looking like one of the Engineers?

Will be interesting to see how he ties things in for the next one, if he does do it....

I am over fifty and I like extreme/doom/death metal also, and if you don't know these check them out, I love them!

there's no hope for you with jazz though ;D ;D

o.O  Saturnus! Fabulous band, I need to get their newest release and am awaiting Mourning Beloveth's forthcoming, or was it Mournful Congregation...either way but fantastic doom bands. Good choice ;-)

Everything and Nothing / Am I a putz or a whack-job?
« on: January 12, 2013, 12:30:21 AM »
I have been into rock/hard rock/metal/extreme metal since roughly 1974-ish but in the '80's I got exposed to jazz (experimental - jean luc ponty, stanley clarke/etc....) and it tickles my fucking fancy with some of them. BUT that is also when I got into *electronic* music a-la Tangerine Dream. I got wicked into Jean Luc Ponty in that time-frame and I know he did a stint with Zappa in the '70's as well. BUT his Cosmic Messenger was so f-n impacting/impressive it STILL blows me away to this day. Am I am retro-dick? I LOVE that album and I think the one after. Same goes for Tangerine Dream, I loved them for their 80's sound till roughly mid 90's because it became commercial IMHO. I know they have a ton of movie stuff along with their regular releases but they went too *happy* IMHO* compared to Green Desert and beyond (esp. in mid 90's IMHO). I loved their stuff and would have paid a good price to see them live back in the early 90's but then changed direction like JLP did. I also was into KennyG back in the day (his first big release, after that = nty). Also was into Clarke/Duke project but that's another ball of wax.

Anyways, being 50+ now and still into the old stuff and extreme metal (I LOVE this shit! death/black/doom), am I a cog in the wheel, or a regular joe still moving forward with life BUT still digging current/old shit? I feel old now! HAHAHAH

Comment as you see fit folks! I can take it!

Got it on blu-ray as well recently but have not watched it. I guess I'll have to pay attention to this closely to give any thoughts/questions when I get around to watching it. Who are these engineers?

Wow no chatter about it since September? Sheesh! Cursed Shore is insane with number of Risen there, you can barely get too far before being attacked by lots of them. Mesmer is lvl 80 finally as has been my ele. Working a Guardian now, he's almost 48. Grinding nightly to try and lvl up 1 or 2 levels and farming mats for crafting/bank mats.

Music Gearheads Tech Talk / Re: Finally... Sound Forge for Mac!

Is Sound Forge worth updating from 7.0x? I haven't bothered looking at it since I don't muck around much on it for editing audio. I will have a look to see prices on it now for version umm 10 or so?

Music Gearheads Tech Talk / Re: Presonus Studio One
« on: November 16, 2012, 11:01:33 PM »
I picked up Studio One V2 for ~$200 end of October on a 50% off sale. I am just barely starting to look at it. I am running the 32 bit version so I can slave Ableton Live to it (have not gotten that far yet). It seems to be pretty well received overall and heard very good things on its mastering alone. 2.5 is due out very soon which will add even more functionality to it. I just have to sit down, spend time on the tutorials and manual to wrap my head around things. It is *very* different for me coming from Live back to a traditional DAW package so I will not have things in Live (session view for one, a biggie) and things are done differently or called/named differently coming from Live so it'll be a learning experience. Live 9 is due out Q1 2013 and Suite includes Max4Live (Standard does not BUT if you have prior license you should still be able to use it, and any instruments you bought prior to Live 9 will work in it so it is a hard choice ($299 vs $159 for Suite/Standard (no M4L, missing some instruments/effects (audio to midi for one), and less sound content by a big margin).

So...we'll see how things look in the next few months or so for Live 9. Push however looks cool as hell but is $599....really cool looking controller that'll work w/o LIve but less functionality. Check out the videos at ableton or youtube about Push. I thought about getting it....be neat piece of hardware but can't justify the costs (ROIC) in my opinion.

Interesting, sounded like something I may have done in the past at the beginning of the first track. I'll check out the others as time permits and perhaps scoop it once I check my paypal funds.

Well started an Ele now (Siren Kometh, mesmer is Madness Kometh) and it's kinda fun to play. Guildies have a char or two at lvl 80 already.....haven't been in as much as I want to (still doing PWI) but there's lots to do (crafting alone is insane) and have to make coin to convert to gold to get items from store vs paying real cash I think (keys to open the black * chests).

Heard Guardian is over-powered but fun to play as well.

Well I got a little time in this weekend. Lvl 12 Norn Mesmer for a character. I am on Stormbluff Isles for world map location. I may be moving it today which I think is the last day of free move. Mobs are a bit harder to kill like during the beta, i.e. ones that are 2 lvls or higher above you can kill you if you don't do the drop/roll/evade moves. And it appears you only have enough energy to do 2 of them at my current level. Not sure if that increases as you level higher. Buddy saw a lvl 80 next to him yesterday....

Grabbed a Great Sword (shoulda kept one that dropped...vs buying) and does magic attacks?! But I picked up 4 skills on it in a short period of time which was interesting. Started on some of the crafting stuff and found that you can access your bank from them as well as from Lions Arch area.

Overall pretty cool but a much larger learning curve IMHO.

Elvish characters? They don't look Elvish to me. Same kind of skill/character setup as the rest. I didn't do much on the Asuran side (I checked out both). Just can't wait till it is officially out next month. I have to probably go read up on character building to understand the choices I make before jumping into it so I have a better idea what to choose depending on class/play type I will be going for initially.

Why not in middle of battle? You have different mobs showing up that you want to use other skill combos for vs current mobs? But I have to look into the skills and associated sub-skill/rune stuff I guess to get a better grip on doing more damage while taking less damage on my monk. Still can get quite busy lol. haven't played since early last week, maybe tuesday I go back into it.
