i've been buying too many CDs lately, just insane.. ??? :)
well;

thomas koner - aubrite
thomas koner - teimo/ permafrost

(perfect deep quiet ambience of the highest order for the snowfall here at the moment..)

seattle phonographers union - s/t
(fantastic fieldrecordings rarely heard like this, all so fresh and crispy..)

jana winderen - heated
(a bit like Koner, exploring deap icy seas, nice one)

aglaia - reverberant skies
(still need to give this a full listen BUT so far this sounds terrific, each disc (3) presents an own feeling; White Maps sounds like Aglaia meets the droney Oophoi, Naked Movement sounds almost like Stephan Mathieu's sensibilities, and Reverberant Skies like a Vidna Obmana's continuation of the Memories Compiled CDs..)

...speaking of Earth Mantra, deep drone lovers/dwellers need to check out Kit Watkins THOUGHT TONES 1 & 2, free for downloading here as well, and remastered;

i think it's excellent stuff certainly after all these years, turn up the volume on these! :-)

p.s. check out his ROLLING CURVE as well

thanks for the review Drone On.
actually i wasn't sure after hearing various excerpts of this new OYC..
but i'll wait for next year purchasing it, i reached my limit this month already  :o

p.s. just found MP3s to stream the 'whole' tracks, doesn't sound bad though.. but keep on pushing the play-button :-)

yes, i guess i need to check out that Guentner CD as well..
spinning lately;

nils frahm - wintermusic
aidan baker - blue figures (damn GREAT!)
alio die & aglaia - private history of the clouds (the more i play this, the more i like it)
zelienople - give it up (a 2009 winner, heavy delightful stuff)
celer - capri
alio die - music infinity meets virtues : live in prague
max corbacho - ars lucis

126
you may try the Nextera discs from Databloem in Holland, as an USA/overseas costumer you don't need to pay the dutch tax of 19%, that will save you some bucks!
secondly Aglaia comes with 3 discs instead (Hic Sunt Leones), and the Stefano Scala is a 2001 release though the MP3s on his webpage do sound very good..

just ask Boid to send you a paypal invoice, would be 1800 yen.
did myself a few days ago  ;)
though i'm not sure what to expect..

there will be also the Sunroom CD (pre-order) on studentofdecay.com, featuring both Opitope (Chihei & Date) and Asuna, soundclips are nice!

lately various things;

andrew chalk - the cable house
(this comes very close to his wonderful Time Of Hayfield CD, i do hope this will be released on CD-format some time soon..)

celer - in escaping lakes
(signature-Celer stillness, storytelling soundscapes.. still digging this..)

steve roach - slow heat
steve roach - dream circle

(imo his best long-form pieces.. works very well at night or in the early morning)

le lendemain - fires
(excellent fragile piano/string pieces circa miniatures, some pieces are really heartrending..)

hall of mirrors (amon+nimh) - forgotten realm
(continuation of their ethnic-flavoured, industrial doomy soundscapes..)

peter broderick & machinefabriek - blank grey canvas sky
(initially not overwhelming by its whole but now i really like this thing!)

looking forward to;

aidan baker - blue figures
seattle phonographers union - s/t
celer - pockets of wheat
zelienople - give it up

i agree Drone On, both the Roach & Oophoi discs are among my very favorites as well!
the Alio Die live CD should be out this year on Nextera, they will also release a live CD by Mathias Grassow at the same time, all recorded from the live show they did in Prague last may. and for next year there might be another Oophoi disc as well.. it's about time he continues releasing his outer space stuff again  8)

plenty of free time lately so..

steve roach - atmospheric conditions
(i personally regard this as one of my favorite Roach CDs.. i love the 2nd track 'in the heart of distant horizons')

thomas koner - permafrost / teimo
(slowly on i'm collecting his OOP stuff, a truly gifted musician, i need MORE)

oophoi & tau ceti - celestial geometries
(i would say a classic, deep space drones and atmospherics)

aidan baker - dry
(mmm, lots of guitar noodling/jamming/drumming etc. need to give this more time..)

ethernet - 144 pulsations of light
(initially left me flat but now i really start to like this thing!)

celer - poulaine
(similar to Brittle but maybe less engaging though..)

asher - miniatures
(again; dusty chamber piano pieces, simply beautifull!)

looking forward to;

celer - pockets of wheat
celer - in escaping lakes
thomas koner - neues land
mathias grassow & tomas weiss - farewell
alio die - live in prague
steven r smith - antimony / kohl (reissue)
peter wright - an angel fell where the kestrels hover

Everything and Nothing / Re: Sad News

sad to see, people like Jim suddenly fall away from our scene..
he was one of the figures who thoroughly supported the electronic music scene, always with great enthusiasm and a healthy dose of sense of humor.
i'm sure he will be missed by many.
rest in peace dear Jim.

solo andata - solo andata
(yep, a goodie from 12K, in spots similar to Alio Die indeed..)

tamaru - figure
(a very stripped down sound -bass guitar- minimal and intriguing somehow..)

marble sky - the sad return
(took many months before its arrival, romantic-kinded, nostalgic drone ambiance)

nestor figueras, david toop & paul burwell - cholagogues
(musique concrete from another ethnic age.. fascinating stuff)

kevin drumm - imperial horizon
(a most delicate soft longform-piece, a highlight of the year for me)

steve roach - afterlight
(interesting to read others' perception on the boxset, but this one works best for me!)

bvdub - we were the sun
(sweet indeed, but a nice one)

thomas koner - aubrite
(sublime! i'm praying, praying for a re-issued boxset of his older works..)

133
my order has been shipped already :-)
the MP3's sound very promising..

now waiting for Pockets of Wheat..

you can listen to 3 tracks from VIRGA on his myspace site. here's a bit noisy where i stay at the moment so i cannot make up my mind at this moment.. i hope it's all not too smooth this time..

still, i like his hypnos re-release LOST TERRAIN most of all.

yes Fern, i had the similar impression about both Barn Owl solo CDs, they seem to be a bit noisy, however with the pre-order of both CDs for $22 only, i simply could not resist my greedy curiosity  :)

got a batch of CDs and dowloads after my holidays;

kevin drumm - imperial horizon
(a B_E_A_U_T_I_F_U_L_L  one-hour long featherlight radiant, blissfull drone, similar to Celer's recent Brittle CD.. listen to the whole thing here;
http://www.weirdorecords.com/cpCommerce/product.php?id_product=8562)

thomas koner - la barca
(indeed a fabulous disc, i love these obscure fieldrecordings melting together with his still-drones.. i think a favorite of the year)

p. jorgensen - to
(if you ask me bit short for an album but i completely love these tones, fantastic)

solo andata - solo andata
(definately -for me- one the best things on 12K in recent time)

evan caminiti - digging the void
(spaghetti guitar drones from one 1/2 of Barn Owl - waiting for the 2 full albums on Digitalis to arrive..)

jefre sei getsu ledesma - namu kie butsu
(he can't do wrong, raw untamed drones of the highest order without question)

aidan baker - dry
(still digging this, delicate improvational guitar picking.. straight away)

137
i placed my order already, looking forward to this CD a lot!

i think LP is doing a great job lately, that Brittle CD may end up as one of my very favorites of the year. i like Celer's more quiet synthesized discs, like Four Pieces and a/O Nacreous Clouds, beautiful stuff!
