i need to change my thoughts on mathias grassow's new BLOODMOON.

i've been playing this over the last few days multiple times and i think it's an excellent release by mathias!
initially i found a bit static and like not much was going on but now listening again to this release, especially the 30-minute track 'Domains Of The Stallo' i think it's powerful statement of how should drone music be.. and something beautiful is going on between these layers of sound.

anyway, i'll look forward to the upcoming live 2CD by Grassow & Carsten Agthe on Gterma!

anticipating:

bvdub - all is forgiven (n5md) pre-ordered!
bvdub - a careful ecstasy (darla)
steve roach & byron metcalf - tales from the ultra tribe
treha sektori - endessiah (cyclic law)
steve hauschildt - sequitur (kranky)

Other Ambient (and related) Music / Re: Any Hakobune enthusiasts?
« on: October 26, 2012, 10:48:55 AM »
i like Hakobune's drone music. he makes good progress on his fast-growing discography.
you can check out his bandcamp; http://hakobune.bandcamp.com/

i especially like his 'Shadow on the Lawn', his recent 'All the other Hearts i knew'. there's also a collection CD 'Trace' on Tobira.

also Chihei Hatakeyama, a japanese fellow has some works worth of mentioning.

i usually prefer Hakobune's more organic grainy sound, a bit unlike the works you mention DroneOn as these have a sharper edge to it..
similar sounding CDs i'd heartly recommend are;
David Tagg - Hand of Clovers
Wouter Veldhuis - Satuuma (free DL here; http://organic-industries.bandcamp.com/album/wouter-veldhuis-satumaa)

i got both for cheap. difficult to describe these, call it kind of synth noodling without purpose..
not a 'proper' link but you CAN pre-listen the whole albums here;
http://www.alloffmp3.org/Artist/2076802/The-Mystery-School/download-mp3/
i prefer "Dawn of the Magicians"

Everything and Nothing / Re: recommended AV receivers ??

thank you all for your input!

i decided to go for a mid-class Marantz M-CR603.
it's a small unit that almost has all possibilities of streaming music from many different sources.
and it even has a decent CD player :-)

when i feel satisfied with this new unit, i'm gonna reorganize/digitalize my music collection and start selling my CDs.
it's not an easy decision.. but i cannot go on like this, having now way over 3000 CDs inhere..

Mathias Grassow-Bloodmoon (Gterma).  Dark swirling bombastic drones.  I was a little bored on first listen, it's pretty static .

i had exactly a similar feel to this new Grassow album, though that last track is really good.
see how it grows over time

Seetyca - The Luminous Deep

i like his BLEAKSCAPES even more.
terrific release where tectonic forces are at work. maybe a companion CD to Roach's Magnificent Void
some Thomas Koner elements are also to find inhere..

i think he could have chosen a better album title..

Other Ambient (and related) Music / Re: Oophoi 2012 remasters Databloem
« on: October 08, 2012, 12:47:50 AM »
i have the oophoi PN re-issues except for the Archaic Oceans set.
they have been remastered at a slightly subtle higher volume for your comfort (as well as most of the longer tracks are divided in 10-minute marks).
as with many Oophoi works listeners might tend to turn up the volume. i guess you won't have this issue anymore.
i'm not sure whether Oophoi himself choose for this 'volume improvement' or not, as his Behind The Wall Of Sleep' got another re-issue again on Nextera recently in its original unedited/non-remastered form.

yes, all strings, true.
though the mp3's do not disappoint so far.
let's say; 15 short snippets of his 'As Long As I Can Hold My Breath' from Avalon Sutra...

lately in the mooddrive of -dare i say- truly enlightning (woofer-friendly) beat-o-tronics (triggered by the latest Earth House Hold alterego of Bvdub!):

earth house hold - when love lived
(what an incredible damn good-feelin' album by Bvdub!! most probably my favorite by him)

DJ Sprinkles - Midtown 120 Blues
federsen - for future times & beings
joergmueller - heavy heart

and a bit more clinical heavy sounding..;

silent harbour (conforce) - silent harbour

anticipating;

mathias grassow - blood moon
upcoming Steve Roach work
harold budd / Bandits of Stature
Bvdub - Home (2CD on Echospace)

just noticed 2 track samples are up!
http://robertrich.com
i think so far it sounds absolutely beautiful.. those are the atmospheres i do adore (a bit Ishq-y sounding maybe..)
my copy is on the way so we'll see what it sounds/feels like overall.
fantastic fitting cover as well!

very into Mathias Grassow lately (probably because of the latest Gterma injection);

el hadra - ornaments
grassow & weiss - farewell (in hommage to klaus wiese)
mathias grassow - 3rd dimension
grassow & klaus wiese - holy domain
(all very good, his drone alchemy is timeless, and will easily survive today's more fancy ambient outings ..)

oophoi - behind the wall of sleep
(got recently its 4th edition, this time on Nextera! the music is magic but this cover sucks..)

luigi turra & gianluca becuzzi - in winter
(came as a real surprise, beautiful wintery melancholic pieces featuring guitar, piano and crispy fieldrecordings)

ishq - flowering mountain earth
ishvara - under a hexagon sky
(both are real stunners if you ask me, very refined/detailed in sound and texture!)

stephan mathieu & caro mikalef - radioland (panoramica)
(had this unplayed for a while but after i gave it a good listen i must conclude this' a very fine developing piece of radiant droning music..)

five elements music - rishikesh
(an excellent fieldrecordings disc (taken in india after midnight) with the ocassional subtle humming of drones in the background)

anticipating;

hakobune & pleq - adrift
chihei hatakeyama & asuna - scale compositions
tobias hellkvist - everything is connected
sophie hutchings - night sky
maurizio bianchi - aeternum aevum
evan caminiti - dreamless sleep
v.a. - gyalpo (gterma)
yannick dauby / hitoshi kojo / mnortham - (КОРЛИГОН) korligon
catherine christer hennix - chora(s)san time:court mirage

Everything and Nothing / recommended AV receivers ??
« on: July 13, 2012, 03:46:36 AM »
currently while my old Kenwood is dying slowly, i'm looking for a decent middle-class priced AV receiver that has all the latest features,
like mp3 streaming from various sources..
some brands that are crossing my mind are; pioneer, marantz, denon, yamaha, onkyo...

if someone has any experience/suggestions/recommendations, please let me know ! :)

five elements music/andrea marutti/jim haynes - tri-ton
(best drone comp. i heard in a while! has been on a heavy rotation as of late, yummy!)

loren nerell - slow dream
(great CD, beautiful cover, sometimes i wish the metallic gamelan tunings do become more clear (less processed) in the mix..)

bvdub - i remember
(one of my favorite Bvdub releases..)

mathias grassow - uttarakuru
(i'm glad this got a remastered re-issue! overall quite static though imo it has enoughy depht to bite into it for over 2 hours)

thomas koner - novaya zemlya
(good but i'm still chewing on it to make up my mind..)

celer - merkin
(another very fine piece of quiet lingering dronics.. i understand Celer is overwhelming its fans/listeners by their immense output, though their ambient-approach is the one i do adore..)

david tagg - hand of clovers
(beautiful music, a definite favorite of the year)

isnaj dui - abstracts on solitude
(a rather short but lovely and introverted album all with processed flutes)

next;
steve roach - slow dream  8)

anticipating;

deepchord - sommer
deepchord presents echospace - silent world
east of oceans (Bvdub) - 121 years
willits+sakamoto - ancient future
k. leimer - permissions
