Music Gearheads Tech Talk / Free speech samples
« on: April 20, 2010, 10:14:55 AM »
Does anyone know were to get free speech samples, like from apollo, NASA, other speeches about space/astronomy, even random movies one-liners etc.
I know there was BBC library CD's, but nothing interesting there (to my opinion). Also I had Great World Speeches (or something like that), also not very useful to me, used only one or two speeches.

By the way, I am not interested in acapellas  :D Prefer one-liners, or just some spoken sentences.

Also there is a way to pirate a movie from the internet and then convert video to audio, cut desireble speech with audacity etc... but it takes too much efforts and time.

The main downside as I see it is royalties for the use of the new file format.

Well, commenters mentioned downsides. Spaming and privacy for example.
Also, mp3 already can contain lyrics and artwork in it's file.

The only so called innovation is that DNA is "updatable" and personally to me it's just spamming stuff into your hard drive that average user do not need. Who watches artwork and reads the lyrics while listening music? Very very few. Some people even aren't at computer while music is playing.

see graphics as I listen to music

you mean seeing album artwork or some visualisation, like in Winamp? You would rather watch at the screen and spend time watching graphics than just listening to music? I don't get it.

I am aware that different people has different preferences, but this function would satisfy really just minorities, in my opinion (also judging by comments bellow that article).

But maybe I just don't understand another great "innovation".  ??? Time will tell.

Sometimes the best thing to do is hit the mute button and watch the visuals.  ;D

that's what I was intending to say too :D

Other Ambient (and related) Music / Re: Earth Mantra netlabel

Oh, EM, it was the first netlabel I encountered on the web about two years ago and still keep visiting and downloading their stuff. Palancar, Arcticology, Lucette Bourdin and many more artists. I especially like their idea to promote unknown musicians.

The worst long songs are the ones that are just a never ending wall of sound with no regards to dynamics or changing the sound, so at the end, your ears are like "Enough already!"

I agree with that. Though, it's quite subjective. Also it depends on the mood. Sometimes one certain track is too short for me to enjoy (so I usually play it on the loop few times). Some tracks are too long to pay attention, so I use them as background music usually, while eating or reading.
