I BEAT YOU ALL TO IT.  I TATTLED ON THIS GUY A WEEK AGO!!! I reported this to Ebay.  These are totally NOT official releases.  He is making his own artwork and my guess they are MP3 download tracks that this seller has fashioned into a "product" to sell, on a CDR of course (another Ebay violation).  This is pirating and this guy should be not only banned from Ebay but sued by the artists involved (yes, Grassow has been victimized by this person as well, with a host of titles sold I had never heard of that don't exist on ANY discography!).  The biggest joke is there is no track listing on the Ebay ads, yet people are paying outrageous prices not knowing what they're getting.  PS: I checked back on the Ebay listings a few days later and they were still there...   >:(

I can guess who they were, especially concerning the "shitty attitude," but I'll just keep my mouth shut (for once).  ;D

Bauhaus-Mask (Omnibus Edition) This 3-disc box is worth it for the awesome live set from '81.

U2-Unforgettable Fire (Deluxe) A classic. The bonus CD has a couple gems but I would have thought there would be more studio outtakes from the sessions, which was a bit disappointing.  Would have liked more comments from Eno and Lanois in the liner notes as well, their notes are pretty scant...

Namlook/Move D-Taygete.  Not bad but heard it all before.  This series on Fax is getting old, they seem to just be recycling previously used material.

Looking forward to: O Yuki Conguate "OYC25" CD/DVD, Redshift "Wild 3", new David Parsons

I'd go with Mike's list of 90's releases, although two of my favorites (in my Top 5) were pretty recent: Aura Seminalis, Corteggiando Le Messi (w/Saffron Wood).  The only one to really avoid would be Angels Fly Souvenir, with its ambient "snoring."  You snooze, you lose on that one  :D

Yes, this is exactly my point about CDR's--their archival life is questionable.  The archival life of a pressed CD is not questionable.  I always back up CDR releases I buy in case they do "go bad."

Another reason to lower the price on CDR releases is the fact that people are going to be willing to shell out the cash more if they feel they are getting a good deal.  We all know this music isn't about the money.  Most of the artists making this music aren't making a living off it.  Also, some of these CDR only labels are releasing so much music it is mindboggling, and a lot of it is pretty obscure, yet they are charging close to what the more established labels (with pressed CD releases) are charging.  Music consumers on a budget who can't afford to buy everything would be less likely to buy obscure releases being sold at premium prices.

As much as I am not against the CDR release as I once was, I am against CDR's being sold for the same price as a pressed CD.  I like the direction of the price reduction for the Hypnos Secret Sounds catalog, now at $9.99.  Seems reasonable to me.  But some other labels selling CDR's for $12.99 or $13.99 with very minimal packaging (slim jewel case, no full booklet) seems a bit much, especially having to pay shipping on top of this.  So to those label owners, I say: please consider a price reduction. Thanks.  :)

Modulator--

I've been enjoying your tracks on the Awakenings series (Ambientlive Records).  Do you have a full-length release?

Ultimae's one of the best electronic labels these days.  I never miss a release.  Getting this one soon. ;D

The super limited (50 copies) CDR to this set is already sold out.

I'd like to see less laptops and more "real" instruments creating ambient music.  12k seems the worst offender to me.  I go on their website and listen to the samples and most of it sounds like computer noodling.

Case in point--the Celer release on Mystery Sea.  I think it sold out in about a week.  Pisses me off I never even got to hear it.  Somebody's selling it on Discogs for 100 Euros.

I need to do some deep headphone listening of this set, but on the big stereo the limited edition disc sounded much better to me (ghostly ambient is a good description).  The main release is mostly environmental/water sounds, with hints here and there of electronic washes.

Oh yeah, Celestial Geometries is my #1 (outer) space album of all time...Atmo Conditions by Roach is way up there as one of his best.

What label is releasing Alio Die live, and when will it be available?

Another one you should track down by Saiz is "Un Hombre Oscuro," live CD circa '95.  Was on a Spanish label.  Virtually impossible to find, I've looked everywhere (Discogs, etc.)!  :o

Don't remember seeing mention of this German label on the Forum.  Loki recently released two outstanding CD's: Herbst9 "The Gods are Small Birds" and S.E.T.I. "Corona."  The Herbst9 is sort of dark ambient ritual music, think a cross between Lustmord and Rapoon.  The S.E.T.I. (Andrew Lagowski) is some very deep/cosmic outer space soundtrack, shifting between intense electronic pulses to pastorale drifting ambience.  Definitely putting these two on my Best of 2009 list.

Al Gromer Khan's done some oriental sounding ambient.

Kitaro Silk Road 1 & 2, yeah, classics definitely.

I've been posting here regularly since about 2001 when I was "Orion32".  It will be sad and strange without Jim Brenholts on the Forum.  What amazed me most about Jim was his razor sharp wit, honesty, and positive support of this music and the musicians who make it.  He was always positive, I don't remember reading anything but positive words from him here, and that says a lot about someone's character.  My deepest sympathy goes out to Jim's family and friends.
