Brand new release on Earth Mantra: Har & Altus - Shadow District

Nice, lush dark ambient. I'll be playing this while exploring this weekend in Guild Wars 2.   :)

Check it out here: http://www.earthmantra.com/release-detail.php?id=198

I've been rotating through a lot of Matt Hillier releases this week, I think in part due to seeing some discussion of Orchid and Skyspaces in various places on forum. I realize that is would be inappropriate to state that Ishq doesn't get enough credit; Orchid, for example, is a top pick among many in the ambient crowd. But it is easy to overlook Hillier's genius. He's a mastermind when it comes to blending the mechanical and the natural. His alien soundscapes often sound surprisingly organic, for example, and his natural, pastoral pieces perfectly blend with his electronic improvisations. I always hear something new when I return to his albums; they're a reliable and rewarding source of aural exploration.

My Hillier collection is incomplete, but here is what is in my rotation: Orchid (Ishq), Skyspaces (Ishq), Under a Hexagon Sky (Ishvara), Magick Square of the Sun (Ishvara), Emerald (Elve), and Infinite Garden (Elve). Among these releases, Infinite Garden is my favorite.

Those are all excellent.  Timelapse in Mercury is a great one, too.

In the studio today.....

Really enjoying this........at times its Sakamoto with his "film piano" and Willits simple yet processed guitar accompaniment & then its their special ambient experimental elixir !

And a nice sound on the samples. Just bought the download version. Looking forward to it.
I liked the earlier Ocean Fire.

Agreed Anthony......the graphics are good.  I got the Flac download through Bandcamp.  As you mentioned Ocean Fire I gave it a spin, had not played it in a while.  Not as accessible as this new release with a quality to it that is clearly 12k.....Still good though!

I find Ancient Future to be a really enjoyable work. Sometimes relatively clean piano and guitar, but with the lurking trademark stuttering and glitchy effects. Plus a few tracks do lean more in the Ocean Fire direction. Fascinating and inventive material.

Ah yes. Had missed that review.
I think you are a bit tough on Ocean Fire, but good to see you liked this new one a lot.
And yep, in places the guitar is a bit Pat Metheny like.

KISS-Destroyer (Resurrected).  Fantastic remaster of this classic rock heavyweight.  Original producer Bob Ezrin brought new life to the tinny, flat sounding previous cd version.  I know people generally think kiss had no talent, but I think Destroyer proved the naysayers wrong.  Too bad they didn't include demos and outtakes as originally planned.  Nice essay by Ezrin in the liner notes, too.

These are all non-ambient releases but I was excited to buy these 5 new albums as soon as I woke up on release day yesterday.

1) The Avett Brothers - The Carpenter
2) The xx - Coexist
3) Bob Dylan - Tempest
4) Field Report - Field Report
5) David Byrne & St. Vincent - Love This Giant

The Avett's record is very good and The xx album is fantastic.  I'm just getting started with Dylan & Field Report.  The Byrne/St. Vincent is very interesting, horns everywhere, I like a few songs immediately but others will take more time.
