VA - I am the Center: Private Issue New Age Music in America, 1950-1990  -  I'm generally not a big fan of "new age" music but this collection is pretty darn good.
Blamstrain - Selected Ambient Dub Works  -  I've been on an extended ambient dub kick & just picked of this fine release on Bandcamp  -  http://store.blamstra.in/album/selected-ambient-dub-works-06-09
Oxycanta III - Curated by Mahiane  -  a nice collection of more ambient dub.  Also on Bandcamp - http://ultimae.bandcamp.com/album/oxycanta-iii
Benoît Pioulard - Hymnal Remixes  -  as long as I'm talking Bandcamp, here's another from there.  One of my favorite albums of the year so far.  https://losttribesound.bandcamp.com/album/hymnal-remixes

I have been listening to the additional tracks that come with this remastered original....... :)....http://projektrecords.bandcamp.com/album/structures-from-silence-30th-anniversary-deluxe-3-cd-remastered-edition

Looking forward to receiving the CD

I have the original cd release but never did get the 2nd remastered release......I feel this one is worth it for the bonus tracks.  Structures from Silence still stands as my favorite Roach recording to this day!

That new structures track is lovely; order placed!

Now playing:
Nacht Plank - Psychology of Religion and Understanding St. Catherine
A 2013 release from Hic Sunt Leones featuring some of Lee Anthony Norris's recordings made shortly after his move to Italy. This album fits with the HSL vibe in a surprisingly natural way: field recordings that merge with digital manipulations, hypnotic waves of sounds, and an underlying sense of the mystical. There are some familiar, recycled sounds here that Norris fans will recognize, but, in my opinion, this is one of his masterpieces and really helps demonstrate the range of his artistry.

I bought the digital version of this to save on shipping. But the limited edition CDrs can be ordered (and samples streamed) via the Alio Die website: http://www.aliodie.com/index.php?_w=1&__fidSez=89&cnt=195&__pg=

I bought it on the mp3 store on Amazon since I have some gift credits there. But I've also seen it on iTunes. Both stores distribute HSL releases (at least in the US).

I agree Chris.....Im not sure but the sounds on the new track seem current and I find that I can breath when I listen.  Sometimes a certain amount of the music we love here can be tense, beautiful but not restful as I find the new piece in this Structures from Silence anniversary edition.  Is this Roach's interpretation 30 yrs later?

Aqua Dorsa (Oophoi and Enrico Coniglio)--The November Earth.  On Gterma label Sweden.  Great dark haunting quiet sounds, one of last projects by Gigi before his passing.  On a big stereo you will miss the subtlety, therefore headphones listening recommended at moderate volume.  Coniglio provides abstract guitar drones which meld with Oophoi soundscapes.

I love Memories Compiled 2. It's not his best music IMO but I still really like the sound that he had back then. I'm also a fan of Popol Vuh.

NP: Nux Vomica and Voice Of Eye- Invivo

This really should have been released a lot sooner. Took 15 years or so for it to see the light of day but it's a really impressive dark ambient album.

Steve Roach - Structures from Silence (3-disc, 30th anniversary edition)
This arrived Friday and I'm super excited about it. My ears are not as sharp as those of others on the forums. I can't tell whether the re-mastered version of the original is improved. It is, nonetheless, fun to listen to in the context of the anniversary.

The two additional discs contain four new tracks that are inspired by the same themes and mood captured in the original recording. They are excellent. The tracks on Disc 2 "feel" more like they belong in a SfS era, and the tracks on Disc 3 feel more akin to those from the Immersion series than Structures from Silence. But everything hangs together nicely, and the evolution from 1984 to some of the contemporary long-form, darker, Immersion work makes for an enjoyable journey in this package.

I've had to drive around town a lot recently, and that means:

- Saul Stokes :: Vast
- Saul Stokes :: Fields

Sophisticated and wonderfully idiosyncratic.

Interesting to hear that youtube is used these days by lots of people primarily to browse for music.

Interesting to hear that youtube is used these days by lots of people primarily to browse for music.

That only bothers me is if the music is up there without the artist's or label's consent.  It's not unusual to see entire albums up there, and I would be surprised if most of the postings had prior consent.  The default assumption these days seems to be that you must have consented to it, even if you didn't know about it or didn't see it up there when you last checked.

Recent plays:  Lloyd Cole - Standards (really excellent; he's plugged in again).  Margins-Fragile Existence (photographs and portfolio are spectacular, very much in the vein of Alio Die's album images; music is just OK).

René Margraff - phasen
A relatively new release from Pillowdiver's René Margraff, on Home Normal. Like some of his other releases, phasen is comprised mostly of soundscapes created with processed guitar.  Some of the tracks are amazing (e.g., the first one) and some of them, at least in my opinion, are pretty lackluster. (I should be more careful about buying things via pre-order based on one or two samples.)

Don't think audiophiles would be going to YouTube for stealing music or anything.  I see it as a good form of promotion.
