Rachmaninoff - The Isle of the Dead, such a great piece.

And the correct painting to go along with it is of course:

Valentyn Silvestrov - Symphony Nr. 5, here's a part of it I'd recommend:

Celer - Relief and Altruism

https://celer.bandcamp.com/album/relief-and-altruism

IDK how many Celer fans we have here, but I love Celer. Extremely prolific and one of the most distinct ambient projects going today.

I enjoy many of the Celer releases, but, with so many albums, I'm afraid I'll never do more than scratch the surface.

Lisa Gerrard - Twilight Kingdom
Only available digitally (thanks for the head's up, Judd). This is frigging amazing. This album really highlights the vocals rather than trying to give equal part of the music, and the result is wonderful. As Judd noted in the other thread, it is quite somber and dark, but extraordinarily powerful and emotionally evocative. I don't think Lisa does all the vocals, but perhaps they are simply processed in a way that makes her voice less obvious; many of the vocal tracks seem slowed down, but maybe I'm simply underestimating the low end of Lisa's range. Great stuff!

Hey all.  New guy here.  I came here by way of someone bookmarking the "classic albums" thread on Pinboard.  I have been browsing some of the topics today and already have found much inspiration.

I asked iTunes to come up with a random playlist of 100 tracks, which is at the moment my "now playing."  I need to do this more often.

This is a nice find! I poked around a bit and discovered that this is a side project of Ludvig Cimbrelius (aka Purl). There are a lot of great releases hosted on his bandcamp site. I'm enjoying the Surr - Asparna at the moment. https://eternell.bandcamp.com/album/surr-asparna

That's another great find. I like the organic sound that it has.

Paul,

I hopped on the tix right away.  At first I saw that they had a first row VIP package and I thought this might be one show that I'd pay a little extra for.  Well those VIP tix were around $275 a piece.  Needless to say I stuck with the normal price tickets.  For $275, Robert Fripp should come & play in my living room.

Here's the set list from a show last week:

Larks' Tongues in Aspic, Part One (1973)
Pictures of a City (1970)
A Scarcity of Miracles (2011)
(Jakszyk, Fripp and Collins cover)
The ConstruKction of Light pt. 1 (2000)
One More Red Nightmare (1974)
Hell-Hounds of Krim
("solo" for three drummers)
Red (1974)
The Letters (1971)
Level Five or VROOOM or Coda:Marine 475 (2003)
Hell Bells
(Percussion piece)
Sailor's Tale (1971)
The Light of Day (2011)
(Jakszyk, Fripp and Collins cover)
The Talking Drum (1973)
Larks' Tongues in Aspic, Part Two (1973)
Starless (1974)
Encore:
HooDoo (new improv)
21st Century Schizoid Man (1969)

I'm a little excited.  ::)

I might do one of the Chicago shows...but I doubt it. I'll probably just wait for a release of one of the shows live on DGM
