Abandoned Communities - Abandoned Communities
Dark ambient soundscapes from Lee Anthony Norris and Pietro Bonanno. I thought I had read somewhere that this would be released on Databloem, but that was almost a year ago and nothing has emerged. So, for now, digital only.

This Mortal Coil - Filigree and Shadow
Still incredible, even (almost) 30 years later. The jewel in the 4AD crown.

That Dylan Howe album is pretty incredible. I know we just had a laugh about it a few days ago but, if you're a fan of Bowie's Berlin period, you really need to check this album out.
There is no spoon. Which sucks because I have a pudding cup.

Recently
- Fleetwood Mac :: Mystery To Me  (a few great tracks on this ... "Hypnotized") (Bob Welch)
- Ralph Towner :: Solstice  (guitar meister)
- Bonobo :: Back Sands  (title track is priceless)
- Alio Die :: Honeysuckle  ( 10/10 )
- Saul Stokes :: Formation  (very 80's ... or was it 90's. More pop electro than ambient. Very fine.)
- Loscil :: Sketches From New Brighton  (brilliant, as usual)

Nikosf. - Collecting the Moments
Was released on vinyl earlier this year, but the digital version just came out. Awesome ambient with beats, in the Dewtone and Yayga spirit. Lovely stuff.

Now playing:

Robert Rich and Alio Die - Fissures
One of my favorites from the 90s. Mysterious, spacious, and ritualistic.

OPENING on Vimeo

OPENING is a visual album created by Christopher Willits. It is a 45 min film, an album released on Ghostly International, a series of photo prints, and live performances. OPENING is best described as an experience, designed to inspire a space of peace and expansion. Willits' music and photographic filmmaking overlap into a kind of abstract narrative speaking to personal transformation and connection to the earth. Willits will be performing the sounds and images of OPENING live in the US and Europe this fall while on tour with Tycho.

I have been waiting all summer for this to be released...cd on its way to me from Ghostly International.....http://www.ghostly.com/releases/opening

Two new ...txt releases have arrived  :)

Mick Chillage - Reverie.....yet another really beautiful ambient album from Mick.

Autumn Of Communion 3.9. Three very different remixes of the AOC track Solar Image by Mick, Ishq and Nacthplank. Really superb.

AOC 5, their final release, is up for pre-order on the ...txt website. Only 100 available from the website with the other 50 going to distributors in Japan and USA.

Porya Hatami - Arrivals and Departures
New release on Time Released Sound. This represents more of Porya's softer, synth work as opposed to the more acoustic, glitchy soundscapes that he's better known for. Great stuff: It is easy to get lost in this; the sounds feel like sonic clouds, making it easy to imagine yourself floating through the sky.

$45 for their "deluxe" versions?  That's outrageous

I guess the deluxe versions are more like art pieces, but the concept behind them in this case seems a little gimmicky.  The label is based locally in Alameda.  I'd rather buy a piece of art from Robin Storey or Andrew Chalk, but different strokes.

Forrest

<np Durutti Column - Chronicle XL - a nice somewhat lowkey release (2 CDs and an additional unreleased early version via download, with a booklet of photos) that may have slipped under the radar.  A nice package, too--sturdy and shaped like a paperback book.  I'd lost track of Vini Reilly and hadn't realized that he suffered a serious stroke just a few years ago that affected his ability to play.>

Yeah, and $45 is on the low end too for some of the deluxe editions.

I've never felt inspired to buy one of the TRS deluxe editions. Fortunately, many of the recent releases have an affordable "standard" edition too, released as digipak (nice), creative envelopes with inserts (neat), and sometimes card sleeves (meh).
