That Hassell/Eno will have to be checked out, sounds very interesting. The great news is it is on spotify and thus I will be sussing it out after my current play.......Steve Roach - Mystic Chords and Sacred Spaces all 4 discs , one after the other, on a beautiful, sunny, winter, Sunday morning......bliss.

Dr Atmo--Quiet Life.  Comeback album for this ex-Fax label pioneer.  Have to say I'm pretty disappointed with this.  There is one great track but the rest sometimes leans perilously close to new age.  Lots of flutes, so it sounds like Robert Rich in spots.  Pleasant but not terribly exciting music.

Listening to the two new Aglaia CDs: Intangible Opacity and Primeval Nebula. They are both pretty cool. I really like Intangible Opacity--it is a bit more dreamy and drifty than Primeval Nebula, which is a bit more on the experimental side. (It is also neat, to be clear. But it is hard to not like one more than the other.)

Wow Chris, we agree completely on the new Aglaia.  I ordered the Opacity CD from Projekt only as Nebula sounded a little too experimental.  I used a gift card to later purchase Nebula, and on close inspection it's excellent and now I wish I'd ordered both CDs. ;D

Wow, Chris & Chris, I agree with both of you!!! Exploring "Primeval Nebula" and "Intangible Opacity" during today, another utterly distinctive sound magic by Gino Fioravanti is delivered!!! And as mentioned by Stefano/HSL, another two Aglaia CDs are scheduled for 2015, so get your wallets ready... ;)

All the best for 2015!!!

Finally stopped procrastinating and picked up Igneous Flame's Nyx and Ion. Brilliant, ephemeral stuff.

Also trying to keep up with the avalanche of back-catalog releases from Matthias Grassow on Bandcamp.

Constant play for the past week, the two new Alio Die Releases.

with Parallel Worlds - Elusive Metaphor and with Lorenzo Montana - Holographic Codex.

Both as expected are massively atmospheric with drones , distant chanting/ vocals, eerie and haunting soundscapes. Elusive Metaphor a slightly darker release and wonderfully so. Holographic Codex has Lorenzo adding unobtrusive and well blended FAX Labyrinth type touches. What a way to end 2014 and begin 2015. Absolutely stunning work !!

Shaded Explorer--Between the Blue.  Another limited (300) CD release on Silent Season that sold out quickly.  This is nice subtle, relatively quiet ambient dub techno without the often annoying "doof doof" beats.  Nothing groundbreaking but a nice album.  As usual, Databloem has copies of this sold out stuff on its website, if you want one.

Expo 70--Corridors to Infinity/Star Colored Clouds.  More spaced out improv guitar and Moog from Justin Wright.

In addition to the new Alio Die on Projekt, there's also a new Steve Roach/Byron Metcalf.  I dunno, is it just me or does Metcalf's drumming sound like someone pounding on the hood of a car?

Jon Hassell/Brian Eno--Fourth World Vol.1 Possible Musics.  Remastered reissue of 1980 release.  Probably a huge influence on artists like Peter Gabriel, David Sylvian, O Yuki Congugate, Steve Roach, etc.  Treated trumpet, drones, subtle African percussion...achieves a very otherworldly and psychoactive ambience.  Excellent essay by Eno about the time period and the album, and a really great, fascinating interview with Hassell.

I have this on CD already from years ago. Is there an improvement in the sound? It's hard to know if they've actually done any real work on it from what I've read.

np:

Marsen Jules Sinfonietta
Loren Dent Anthropology Vol. 1 (looking forward to 2 and 3 now)
Eluder Hunter's Ridge

The sticker on the shrinkwrap states it's remastered, yet there are no credits inside for who, if anyone, remastered the recording.  I didn't have the original and don't remember what the sound quality was.

I love it!!! I have heard only two tracks so far from "Monuments of Ecstasy", the title track is absolute milestone, these guys have pushed the limits once again. Bravo Byron, Steve & Rob!!! Can't wait to explore the CD!!!

And Chris, don't miss 2CDr set "The Time Collection" by Altus, released yesterday in limited edition of 40 copies. A true sonic Eden awaits here too!!!

All the best!!!  ;)

John Foxx--The Virgin Years 1980-1985.  5CD box of early studio albums with lots of extra tracks.  For some reason I didn't have these albums even though I'm a fan of his later material.  Lots to explore here.  Should keep me busy.

Bauhaus--5 Albums Box Set.  Remastered studio albums, extra tracks, singles, etc.  Goth heaven.

It is indeed. The instant stand out track on both releases I feel. Really has the feel of the FAX Labyrinth series. Can't stop playing these two Alio Die releases, which for me is the sign of magnificence.
