Loscil - "Submers"

It's been a while since I put it on but it holds up nicely.
Looking forward to his new one later this year.

My Life In The Bush of Ghosts (Eno/Byrne)
The finest collaboration album from Eno.

Recently:

Nunc Stans- Time; great free drone music. 8)
Rapoon- The Library Of The Dead; always a weird and wild ride. Probably my favorite of Rapoon, and that's saying a lot.
Deupree/Mathieu- Transcriptions; Still heavily in the rotation.
Konntinent- Degrees, Integers.
Winterhouse- Slow Promises;
Dead Letters Spell Out Dead Words- Lost In Reflections; Excellent raw guitar sound.
Saul Stokes- Metacollage; easily my favorite Saul Stokes.

Forrest Fang  - Phantoms ... This album is magical. Many layers. So intricately strudctured that even after listening multiple times this weekend, I feel like I need to listen many more times. Captivating work.

Matt Borghi & Ben Fleury-Steiner What the Night Leaves Behind.   I have a batch of Gears of Sand discs here that I'm slowly going through...really enjoying this right now...along with

Saito Koji - Guitar.  *Possibly* a bit too sweet for some.  If Cocteau Twins "Victorialand" and/or the instrumentals for This Mortal Coil are your thing, then I would recommend it...or any of Koji's material for that matter.

Parks - Hidden (forthcoming...)

Bjork - Voltaic

Jewelled Antler box set Another slightly older release that I'm just getting around to listening to.

I've heard a lot of praise for this album...and it's well deserved...two days in a row and I can't get enough of it....

Steve Roach - Dynamic Stillness - Projekt

Finally having internet back at the house, I've indulged in a little d/l'ing--which I normally don't. But I grabbed a couple Earth Mantra titles last night, and have been quite enjoying them today:

Silvercord, Bioluminescence--deeply washed, breathing guitar textures

Lucette Bourdin, Golden Sun--two disks of glacial drifts, quietly beautiful and calming

Also grabbed, but haven't yet listened to, Kit Watkins' "Music for the End."

Altus, Excursion Two.  Fantastic. Warm, slow drifts, beautiful layers with waking-dream imagery.

Zero Ohms, Unafraid of the Impending Silence.

This makes my brain feel wonderfully squishy. Like warm marshmallow.

Which may not be a good thing at work....

Sleepy Town Manufacture/Unit 21- No Traces; Really nice! A murky, gray synth world with occasional nature samples.  Various instrumental sounds float over the fog- pianos, wind chimes, keyboards, flutes, horns, voices... the mood is usually quite somber, but I love this stuff. Be aware though, that there is a constant crackling in the background; you know, the "scratched record" effect. Doesn't bother me, but it might bother some of you. Great disc.
Nunc Stans- The Unnamable; Wow, great layers of drone so far, very attractive... but I've only listened to 2 tracks so far, I'll try to describe more later.

Rim - Seas & Skies & Deserts - U-Cover
(Ambient drone alert!!!!  Second album in the last three years and it's an absolute winner....really quite interesting in how he blends the drones with synthesized landscapes...well maybe not that interesting since every week we have a plethora of releases alongthese lines..but few create works that are endearing...at times it seems I hear some Nunc Stans...)

Elementaural Research Project - Elementality - Basses Frequences
(Is this the same artist that is also known as Relapxych.0?  It appears so if the discogs information is correct...this work is the complete opposite of what we have come to expect from this phenomenal artist...lately I've been enjoying the Atheus/Relapxych.0 split on Ghost sounds....this on the other hand sounds like haphazard electronic experiments...it's not bad but I would not consider it good either...it teeters on the verge of annoying...will give it more time and perhaps this work has gone above my head...)

Two different listening threads...

ambient...

David Tagg - Wind Blown Guitar - I am enjoying this one very much.  Not covering any new ground here, but it's enjoyable nevertheless.
Marconi Union - Tokyo - Nothing dramatically different from their other releases, but I am a huge Marconi Union fan so I like this one.  Nice ambience with some beats & some dub.
Tu M' - Monochromes Vol 1 - This recording is on the Line label, which usually releases some fairly challenging music.  This one, however, is quite accessible.  It is simply beautiful, stretched out loops of vaporous ambient sounds.

Non-ambient...
Elton John - Madman Across the Waters - been on an Elton kick lately, brings back fond memories.
Great Lake Swimmers - lost channels - fantastic album of acoustic/folk/pop.
Bruce Springsteen - Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J - This is the only Springsteen album I still like.  I love playing it loud while driving & singing along with it.  I am trying introduce my daughter to the charms of this album

Been dwelling in the review queue over the past couple of days. Some older releases I haven't gotten to, some new stuff.

Mara' Torment - Across for Show...10-year old tracks released on AtmoWorks, sounding fresh and engaging.

Strom Noir - Luvyoo... Interesting guitar texture from Slovakia. A good looper.

Igneous Flame & Disturbed Earth - Harmonium Dean plays the pedal harmonium, Pete runs it through the filters and processors, and the result is a warm, meditative flow that makes me want to lay down on the floor and just surrender to the sound.

Nemesis-Music for Earports.  Probably their most ambient release. Finland's finest. Awesome.

Apoptose-Schattenmadchen.  Strangely beautiful and unsettling, yet dreamy.  This German group gets categorized as Goth, experimental and ambient, but still hard to pigeonhole into one category. I love this disc.

A Produce-Land of a Thousand Trances Special Edition.  Makes me long for some new music from this stellar artist.

Forrest Fang-Phantoms.  Believe the hype. It's great!!!!!

Heavy Rotation:

Forrest Fang - Phantoms...this is the best album I have heard in a very long time. So rich in detail.

David Parsons - Surya...Didn't groove on this on the first listen but it has become awesome. Want to get more Parsons.

Alio Die and Agliaia - Private History of the Clouds...this is amazing, weird warped and serene slowed down version of Alio Die. Sleeping to it...

Atomine Elektrine - Deep Invisible...one long completely tripped out track that runs the gamut of electro pleasure dome beauty. One to check out.

I've been wondering about this one...could not make my mind up as the label that released this focuses primarily on industrial and noise...is it like his other release "Nebulous" on Essence?

Today:

The Archivist - The Keeper Of The Library - Lacie's Records
(Cute package as expected...pretty much anything that comes from Lacie's, Cotton Goods, etc....sounds a little dated...could of come out on City Centre Offices or other related labels back in 03 or 04...even though I make those refrences I actually like the album and bonus 3"...a little glitch, soft beat, pitter patter percussion, and light melodies)

Kreng - L'Autopsie Phénoménale De Dieu - Miasmah
(Perhaps one of the most unique releases this year...was not expecting to get into this Noir smoky jazz infected music....reminds of Bohren and Der Club Of Gore but with Boards of Canada providing some funky beats and samples and Max Richter conducting the piano and saxophone pieces....overall A+++++ from me and one disc that I will be turning to again and again....oh and it's a bit spooky)
