ipod's been on shuffle last couple of days.

odd transitions...   rush into swans,   glenn miller into meat beat manifesto,  etta james into two lone swordsmen,  and anytime a christmas tune or madonna pops up.

Also listening a lot to Stars of the Lid and Kranky in general.

the sight below | it all falls apart - this just okay, not as good as the last one.
madlib | shades of blue - nice remixes of blue note music.
U2, Lanois, & others | the million dollar hotel - just rediscovered this cd, a good collection of tunes that makes me wish U2 did interesting music instead of the crap they've been cranking out.
Peter Gabriel | Scratch My Back - some very nice tunes but overall everything sounds too much the same.  plus it's a little frustrating to wait seven years between releases and get an album of covers. :(

Infinite Body- Carve out The Face Of My God; Am I the only person on this forum who knows about this great disc? This is fantastic stuff if you like warm, fuzzy guitar drones. Joyful noise is a good way to describe it, but not abrasive at all, just blissed-out fuzz.

Yo,.....i've been on this artists tip since late 2008....he has a well rounded tape collection that is a must if you truly enjoyed his Post Present Medium release....but while it's still available you should check out his Teenage Teardrops 12"....very nice set of fuzzed out warmness....but you might want to avoid his first CD which is decent but no where close to what he is currently releasing.....just type infinite body into the search engine and you can read my blip and blap on the hypnos forum....and as a must you should also check out "Bird Traps" album "Don't be So Reckless"....some duo out of Australia that is magnificent...just go to aquarius and search for bird traps and the CD-R comes up.

Joe: I found this album to be fairly uneven in style and quality.
Some very nice moments though.

You might enjoy the 36 album, "Hypersonia"  (its free)

Fernando- Thanks for that info. And I should have known that you'd have been aware of Infinite Body long before I was. You seem to listen to everything by everybody. How do you find the time and money? I'm jealous :)

Anthony- I can see how a person can find that disc "fairly uneven", although I love it. And I have that 36 download and I like it, although it's a bit "sugary". But I love music that's both good and free, what a combination!

Other free downloads that I love:

Epeus Reichenback- Etherized; very bleak and sparse, seems too "simple" at first, but repeated listenings reveal hidden treasures within this music. Based on repeated piano phrases (slightly off-kilter), with synth, violins, cellos, odd voices and odd percussion thrown into the mix. The reverb makes it sound like it you're hearing it in a cold dark cave. Very desolate and very eerie... and absolutely mesmerizing.

Phantom Channel Compilation 1- some of the best dark-ambient artists you've never heard. A very nice variation of music and styles, but it all fits together so well. By turns peaceful, desolate, bewildering, threatening, and majestic. Wonderful!

Peter Wright - Dissolving Into Light (ambient guitarist (with considerable grit) from New Zealand; comes in a nice box of 3 CDRs with a booklet of Wright's experimental photography, criminally limited to 50, with yet another version of 50 that comes with a different additional CDR and a DVD of experimental films)
John Martyn - The Church With One Bell (a surprisingly good late release from 1999 with John Giblin, who some may remember from the prog rock-fusion band, Brand X)

Datacide II (Inoue/Atom Heart)- Just reissued.

Where to get this one? I liked the other Datacide, Flowerhead.

Listening:
Ginormous - At Night, Under Artificial Light. Brilliant electronica.
Move D - Kunststoff. A lovely classic.

I've been enjoying Jonathan Hughes' Fluidities project here at work today.
(Just one disc at a time in my computer CD player though. It's still a good listen.)

The Circular Ruins- Invisible Cities; wonderfully expansive, and a great CD to wake up to, when your mind is still fuzzy and impressionable.

alio die - the hidden spring
(i'm glad i purchased the 2009-edition, beautiful digipack paintings by our 9Dragons and the slightly remastered sound reveals new details here, an early but intriging work by Alio Die)

alio die - horas tibi serenas
(a beautiful closing chapter.. the 2nd piece really hits a nerve with me..)

david tagg - pentecost
(superbly mastered disc; deep, thick, static and dense drones, keep 'm coming Mr. Tagg!)

paul schutze - abysmal evenings
(i think my favorite by him; ethnic, outer-space jazzy dreamscapes, great disc!)

the sight below - it all falls apart
(this one has been growing on me over the last week or so, maybe as good as his 1st one..)

mathieu ruhlmann - gravity controls our myths
(this came as a very nice surprise, highly atmospheric miniature pieces)

tobias hellkvist - evolutions
(definately one of the best things i've heard from the Home Normal label, i think i have to play it -again-..)

andrew roth - natural sounds of japan
(9Dragons was right, terrific fieldrecordings in crystal clarity, one of a kind!)

Unwinding after a hard day:

The Fun Years- The Crippling Paranioa Of Fluorescent Quinine; pleasantly crackly and ever-morphing guitar & turntable drones. I love this stuff...

Now just a darn minute, should you really be blowing your own horn like that? ;-)
...I always wondered if musicians listened to their own music. If I were a musician, I don't think I'd enjoy listening to my own stuff. I'd be too critical.

 :D
I actually think you'll find musicians listen to their own music a lot.

In my case, I only create the music that I would like to listen to,
and once I have some temporal distance from the labors of creating
it I listen to it pretty much as I listen to any other album I enjoy.
I like my work.

I can still be critical of it at times, but just the same as when listening to
the work of someone else. Once a new work has been in the public arena
for a while, I simply become another listener of it. A certain objectivity has
set in at that point.
