Been doing something of a purge of my collection, making room for new arrivals, getting rid of dross. Doing this makes you revisit recordings that might have gone neglected, and it tends to 'shake up your tastes/perceptions' quite nicely; also forces you to re-examine why a particular disc was once deemed 'shelf-worthy'. So, with that in mind & currently playing/re-evaluating around these parts:

KEEPERS (amongst a few):
- Yee-King 'Superuser' (Rephlex) - one-hit IDM wonder on Richard D. James' label still holds up quite well: nice, bouncy rhythm boxes, digitally percolating atmospheres, winsome mutant drum 'n' bass patterns.

- You 'I Am You' (Stickfigure) - self-released IDM from an obscure artist, about as all over the map as Yee-King, but less chaotic structurally...cool stuff.

- The Youngsters 'Lemonorange' (F Communications) - respectable mix of techno, house, IDM, trip-hop & all points in between, on a label with wildly divergent tastes & styles.

ON THE BLOCK:
(too many to mention...) ;)

Hawkwind: Blood of the Earth (totally disappointing!!!)
Kluster: Kluster and Friends (a monumental document of the early days of Kluster, abstract and harsh soundscapes, a masterpiece)
Neu: 86 (the lost tapes of Rother and Dinger, some great pieces and some fillers)
Guru Guru: Wiesbaden 1973 (another live recording from the golden era of krautrock, stoner rock of the highest caliber)

Most recent:

Ben Fleury-Steiner - Keep a Weather Eye Open (Infraction label)
Very nice drone-ambient, possibly my favorite work yet by this artist.

Been on a Ride kick lately - "Carnival of Light" and "Tarantula", two classics.  And my ambient-loving side has been really digging Robert Rich's "Seven Veils", Mo Boma's "Myths of the Near Future" volumes 1 through 3, and Nurse with Wound's "Soliloquy for Lilith".
I wish I was a Glowworm; a Glowworm's never glum. 'Cause how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?

brian mcbride - the effective disconnect

Looking forward to that new Brian McBride (didn't think it was out yet) - his prior release twirled the lobes nicely, I recall.

NP:
Peter Mergener Passage in Time (Cue) - This is a ridiculously hard-to-find early work by Mergener (his 2nd, in fact) that I recently snagged on da 'bay (not cheap, either). I've found Mergener's solo work more satisfying than his work with Software Passage is quite excellent but those early 'Ware records have many worthwhile moments.

Earlier NP:
Iibiis Rooge Pink Hybrid (Winged Sun) - New project conjoining High Wolf (?) & Astral Social Club...wonderfully mesmeric, charging, pulsating electronics that just stop short of noise; wholly involving throughout.

Hexlove Want to Be Nice (Weird Forest) - Damn cool single 40-minute slab 'o' kosmische from yet another indie-rocker-gone-'tronix...the kind of thing the folks @ Aquarius Records wet their pants over (and justifiably so)...immense appeal to those diggin' the current 'new synth thang' mode of EM experimentation (and I'm certainly one of them), for fans of Oneohtrix Point Never, the aforementioned Astral Social Club, etc.
