Fancied listening to the track Steppenwolf and it's the only recording I have - some great lines from Bob Calvert....
I get cravings for that song on occasion. Calvert is excellent, unequalled in his lyrics. I have a disc of him just reading his poetry that puts me into a weird mood, quite enjoyable.
It's interesting because there can be great gems in one line and the next a real clunker....
What is the disc of poetry?
It's called
centigrade 232, a booklet of poems and cd put out by voiceprint. Don't know if it's still in print, but only 500 were made...
I agree on the Calvert lyrics. I look at his poetry as being in a different realm, between psych-rock and literary, so I look at his lines in a weird way, comparing him more to the totality of rock lyrics and not as much to strictly written poets. He's kind of like Morrison in that way...but with the pulp sci-fi awareness that I love so dearly...
