very into Mathias Grassow lately (probably because of the latest Gterma injection);

el hadra - ornaments
grassow & weiss - farewell (in hommage to klaus wiese)
mathias grassow - 3rd dimension
grassow & klaus wiese - holy domain
(all very good, his drone alchemy is timeless, and will easily survive today's more fancy ambient outings ..)

oophoi - behind the wall of sleep
(got recently its 4th edition, this time on Nextera! the music is magic but this cover sucks..)

luigi turra & gianluca becuzzi - in winter
(came as a real surprise, beautiful wintery melancholic pieces featuring guitar, piano and crispy fieldrecordings)

ishq - flowering mountain earth
ishvara - under a hexagon sky
(both are real stunners if you ask me, very refined/detailed in sound and texture!)

stephan mathieu & caro mikalef - radioland (panoramica)
(had this unplayed for a while but after i gave it a good listen i must conclude this' a very fine developing piece of radiant droning music..)

five elements music - rishikesh
(an excellent fieldrecordings disc (taken in india after midnight) with the ocassional subtle humming of drones in the background)

anticipating;

hakobune & pleq - adrift
chihei hatakeyama & asuna - scale compositions
tobias hellkvist - everything is connected
sophie hutchings - night sky
maurizio bianchi - aeternum aevum
evan caminiti - dreamless sleep
v.a. - gyalpo (gterma)
yannick dauby / hitoshi kojo / mnortham - (КОРЛИГОН) korligon
catherine christer hennix - chora(s)san time:court mirage

Mark Isham-Tibet (1989, Windham Hill Records).  This is a great Isham album featuring a very progressive rock (a la David Sylvian) feel, with guests like David Torn doing some electric guitar wailing and sounding like Robert Fripp.  The whole album has a David Parsons vibe to it as well, albeit more melodic and "rocky."  Not as good as my favorite Isham album which is "Film Music," but still very good.

K. Leimer - Day Music (an interesting multi-file long-form release that rests somewhere between Music For Airports and the piano/electronics collaborations of Mathias Grassow and Bruno Sanfilippo; very nice and droney; the four 70+ minute files can supposedly be played simutaneously, but I haven't tried that one yet)

Yagya,newest one- yes the vocals are nothing new,reminds me totally of Luomo project by V.Delay. But underneath that is the amazing Yagya beats and the instrumentals are worth getting.
Enjoying the long samples on the Unfathomless label. True field recordings with a bit of rumble.

Aside from the easy recommendations of artist's projects I've worked on this year (Forrest Fang's two wonderful releases and loscil's piece for Tweaked Conspiracies), I've been relishing a recent resurgence of really great Canadian (chamber?) prog/pop this year. In particular:

Mean Sun by Vancouver's Brasstronaut
Glass Kites by Vancouver's Glass Kites
Adventures in Your Own Backyard by Montreal's Andrew Watson

Now this sounds interesting! Having recently listened to Somnium  I want to explore more long-form works again.

That does sound interesting!

I've been seeking out and listening to free and/or donation based albums for the last couple of days. Here are three things that have stood out that others here might enjoy.

The Ghost of 3:13 - November

Gaston Arevalo - Habitat

Actually the 4 files for Day Music 1 are each around sixty minutes long.  There is also a Day 2 available that is more drone-based.  It's very static stuff, but also very calming.  Very nice work for Mr. Leimer, whose been at it since the early 80s.

Max Corbacho - BreathStream
Fantastic deep space soundscapes

Oophoi - Athlit
One of my favorite Hypnos releases. Glacial drones that evolve in some beautiful ways.

I've been way out of the ambient and electronic for too long now.

Hearing that Squarepusher above gives me that feeling of excitement I used to get from Warp records. A couple weeks ago I brought out Selected Ambient Works 2, On Land, and Music for Airports, and they blew me away, evoking big emotion. That's funny, two of those I just read mentioned on the Overrated thread, but in that moment they really got me.

Thinking of picking up some new records to decorate my new apartment...been out of it for a while, but am now on the hunt for new listens.

I've never heard the Fissures album. Will have to find a copy.

Recent listens
Forrest Fang :: Gongland  (especially enjoy the second half of this one)
Ishq :: Skyspaces
Wir :: Thamnos  (Tomas Weiss + female vocalist, a fascinating blend)
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan & Michael Brook :: Night Song (from the 90's, some fine tracks)
Leonardo Rosado :: How the rain fell that day (delicate inventions on the Relaxed Machinery label)

Plus a lot of Loscil, Maps and Diagrams, and Roedelius.
