Steve Roach- New Life Dreaming.  So this is the one where Steve did the Dreamtime Return era synths, and though it's not as memorable as that album, it's still skillful, pretty and kind of underrated, compared to his music of recent years.

Though I prefer the more experimental (ne้ electronic) approaches of their post 80s phase(s)

Wire made some great off-kilter pop during that period, too.  Kidney Bingos and Eardrum Buzz were up there with my favorites.

ambient:
m83 - hurry up, we're dreaming
Cyber Zen Sound Engine - Cooperation
wouter veldhuis - blue forest

non ambient:
Mother Falcon - Alhambra - for fans of Beirut, Sufjan Stevens & Efterklang.
Kacey Musgraves - same trailer different park - now this is what country music should be, not that Band Perry shit!  Classic country sound with good lyrics.
Phox - Confetti - a Wisconsin band that got a lot of pub at SXSW.  Good indie, folk-pop with a nice quiet/loud dynamic.

Some deep listenings today in memory of the great Oophoi:

Numina--the Deception of Reality
Robert Rich--Inner Landscapes
Oophoi/Vnuk--Dreamfields

wouter veldhuis - blue forest

Love the samples on Bandcamp. How did you come across this? I've never heard of this artist before.

Like Drone on, I've been listening to a lot of Oophoi today, and rediscovering the beauty of some of his older releases (e.g., Time Fragments Vols. 1 - 3) that I haven't spun in a while.

Yes, it's a great one, especially Disc 1.  It was one of the last recordings I obtained from Gigi.

It certainly is, it was the first disc I bought directly from him, and always had a special place with me, more so now, and is probably my most favourite album of his, although there are so many more of his that come really close to it.

Bvdub--At Night this city becomes the sea (AY records, Japan). Nothing much to say except this is another excellent Bvdub album.

sonmi451 - A Phosphorous Spot + Spectrum + Cloud Atlas
I've finally managed to grab the last bit of what is still in print for sonmi451. (I'm still missing Star Atlas and the collector in me is going nuts. If anyone has a copy they wish to offload, please send me a note.) These three CDs are great. There is a surprising amount of heterogeneity across the various discs. Cloud Atlas, for example, is wonderful nighttime music, but A Phosphorous Spot (having a bit more of a pulse) has been spinning in my car stereo for the past week.

chris23,

I picked up the Wouter Veldhuis release on Bandcamp.  Really nice recording, nothing groundbreaking, just good ambient.

I also have Wouter Veldhuis - Satumaa, a 2008 release, which also very nice.

Steve Roach - Soul Tones

As good as ever. Title track is marvelous. The exotic harmonies Steve Roach creates.... I could dwell inside them forever.

- The Boats :: Our Small Ideas
- The Boats :: Ballads of the Research Department

Some great music on those two.
Sort of in the Sonmi451 vein.

I've been listening to this a lot too (thanks, drone on). The last 10 minutes of the 2nd track (Resolved) are absolutely brilliant--some of my favorite of Roach's.

Thom Brennan - Mist
A classic. I will never tire of this.

Closing the Eternity and Mathias Grassow (s/t).  Limited edition pressed cd in digipak with bonus mini CDR.  On Aquarellist label, Russia.  Awesome release, best of 2013 so far.

Martin Fuhs - Grauton
Wonderful. A nice blend of modern classical, drone-based ambient, and experimental. I'm sorry I didn't discover this sooner.

Kate Bush--Hounds of Love, Never for Ever
Iron Maiden--Maiden England, 2cd recorded 1988.   Disappointing.  Studio versions are much better.
Dire Straits--Brothers in Arms.  Along with Hounds of Love, one of the best rock albums of the 80's

Seaworthy - Sleep Paths
Simon Scott - Sillene
For Ingar Gustavsson - Johan G. Winther

I've been preoccupied lately by the Slaapwel label, after hearing Sonmi451's Ruis . These three titles are some of the few that are still in print and they are excellent. The Seaworthy release in particular is quite nice.
