Jacob Newman and Devin Underwood- The Vivid Unmapped. I haven't had this out in a while, I forgot how impressive this is. The first two tracks are rather ordinary and unremarkable, but after that it descends into a vast, windswept mystery. The awesome sense of space and distance cannot be overestimated here. The music is an understated stew of seemingly random piano notes, guitar plucks, synths, field samples, and other assorted odd musical effects. There's a palpable aura of edginess about it, as though some silent and unknowable drama is taking place just beyond your edge of perception. So strange, but so seductive!

I would have used a thumbs up image, but there isn't one.

Doh. The Vivid Unmapped is on my bottomless "to buy" list. One day; one day.

Today has been a 1990's vidna Obmana and friends day, including:
Landscape in Obscurity
Well of Souls
Somewhere else

These are some of my favorites--especially Landscape in Obscurity. I love the synth washes that open the piece and the ethereal, fluttering flute samples that dominate the heart of the track.

I would have commended you on your fine mastering job, but (1)  -I didn't want to give you a big head, and (2) -I'm not exactly sure what "mastering" is ::)

Chris- Well Of Souls and Somewhere Else are two of my favorites as well...  and I haven't heard Landscape In Obscurity in years, thanks for the reminder.

I've been on a Harold Budd kick for weeks. Right now I'm listening to Perhaps, but this morning I heard the Nighthawks, Translucence and Drift box.

Constance Demby- Aeterna

At this point, she was definitely really new-agey but this is the first time I've listened to this album in awhile and I'm liking it more this time. Here, she's still a great composer but I wish she would have still incorporated some more exotic instrumentation, like on here earlier albums. I loved Sacred Space Music and Sunborne because of the hammered dulcimer.

We were given tickets for a concert in the local city theatre - music of the movies and musicals - this would not be my usual cup of tea but a 56 piece orchestra and 40+ choir made it a delight. The solo singersd were very good too - but the amplifeid voice had a different quality to the choirs...

Hakobune - Nebulous Sequences ( a nice one released this fall on Voxxov that some may have overlooked--a double manufactured CD, too)
Aube - Metal De Metal (placed this one for the first time in a while after hearing that the man behind Aube, Akifumi Nakajima, had passed away a few months ago; textural and unique--using only sounds made from metal.  Aube was one of the pioneers of the industrial scene.)

Martian Chronicles : Seren + Oophoi    When I got this cd it did not grab at first.  Ive been playing it a lot these last few weeks and like some of the music in this genre it can need a deeper listening.  It ask that you come to it open.  Great disc that is still unfolding!

Strom Noir- Ghosts Are The Most Fragile When Dancing- I love this one, a real oddity in Strom Noir's discography. It's one of the most diffuse albums I've ever heard-- on the surface, it's just static-y fog, but close listening reveals a myriad of fascinating sounds. It's only an EP though. Damn. Should be longer.

I've been on a huge Docetism kick lately; great stuff, deep dub drones.  Not sure what the religious theme has to do with any of it, but the music is solid.  Highly recommended.
