Lost Trail- How An Absence Creates A Presence- A strange brew of drones, meandering piano notes, seemingly random voice/music samples, and tape hiss. The music is beautiful, but it has a very lonely vibe to it. Well worth checking out, especially since you can buy the download at your own price.

Thanks to Julio & Chris for the heads up on two more Bandcamp releases.  I just picked up :

Disturbed Earth - Castles in Spain - sounds very Fripp-like.
Purl - Behind Clouds  -  hits the sweet spot of dubby ambient that I've been craving lately.

And of course while at Bandcamp I found something else...
Twelve - MAGIK - this one is new electronic music that sounds like old Kraftwerk, couldn't resist.  Find it here...MAGIK.

Lastly, a buddy at work gave me a jump drive with some random music he thought I'd like but probably not know about.  And my fav from it is The Giallos Flame.  It's kinda hard to describe it's part Italian horror movie music, part prog rock and part awesome!

Twincities - Variations for Celesta
This is the first release for the new Eilean Records label (http://www.eilean-records.com/), run by Monolyth & Cobalt. Grainy dronescapes based largely on processed celesta, with occasional appearances of guitar and a basement furnace. Pretty neat stuff and likely to be appealing if you like the acoustic/experimental side of ambient.

Buy/Listen: https://eileanrec.bandcamp.com/album/variations-for-the-celesta (The second track is especially good.)

Also recently playing 36's Lithea. I really, really love that CD.

Node 2 is a cracker but in case you haven't you really must check out......

Cosmic Ground  http://cosmicground.bandcamp.com/

Apart from Nachtplank - Echo Ark, this is album of the year so far for me. One of the best Berlin School type albums I have heard. There is a strong ambient theme to this release also.  8)

Michael Huygen - Angkor Beautiful, relaxing, melodic ambient.

And a very important release to mention............

Tangerine Dream - Sorcerer 2014 A live recording of this classic soundtrack in their Eastgate theatre prior to playing live in Copenhagen. This 2 disc set also includes music originally intended for the film but never recorded/released. To put it mildly this release is absolutely stunning. Totally blown away by this. Try not to miss out on Sorcerer 2014, your life will be enriched  ;)

How does that live version of Sorcerer compare to the original?

To clarify, when it states "Live" there is no audience noise and such like. This appears to be a live take in what I believe to be TDs own rehearsal theatre prior to going out and gigging this in Copenhagen for the Sorcerer concert with William Friedkin present.

This new version is even better than the original, if that is possible. I am unsure if they have used some analogue instruments but the overall effect and quality of the music is just wonderful. It sounds so fresh yet also harks back to the original. Absolutely superb.

Disc 2 is also excellent with the unreleased/unheard musical ideas originally written for the film.

Also great news that this film is finally due for a world wide Blu ray release soon, can't wait  8)

Loren Nerell - Slow Dream
Picked up the digital download during Projekt's weekend sale. I should have grabbed this album in 2012. Deep subterranean drones and textures. Absolutely mesmerizing.

Orla Wren - Soil Steps
Soil Steps is a sonic journey constructed from sounds Tui (Orla Wren) recorded during his travels through the Iberian wilderness and its border villages. Although most of the sounds are natural (e.g., brooks, insects, birdsong) or incidental (e.g., a car passing by, people talking on the street), they are mixed in with some of Tui's atomistic, micro-sound experimentation, which gives the piece a surreal quality--as if it is part natural history and part fiction. Listening to this in a single sitting is an incredible experience because the album truly transports you to another place.

This is easily a contender for one of my favorite releases of the year. It might not appeal to everyone here because it is on the far extreme acoustic/field end of the ambient/drone continuum; the electronics and synthesis are not the focus. But, if you have any interest in this kind of experimental work, Chris Watson's recordings, or organic dronescapes, this is worth a careful listen.

Buy/Listen: http://oak-editions.com/release/soil-steps or http://orlawrenmusic.bandcamp.com/album/soil-steps-oak-editions-2014

This peacock makes a vocal appearance around 22 mins in to the album. Tui was kind enough to send me a disambiguating photo after I inquired about what my daughter had described as "the sounds of a loud and strange cat."
