This evening

- Murcof: Cosmos

Good stuff. But I do prefer the masterful Remembranza, overall.

[...] Why should Burial get more attention than that excellent Echospace record, for example?   ???

Well, luckily, Brian, not everyone's got their heads up their Dubstep arses so far they can't see what's going on out in the the dubtechnosphere. Check Gutterbreakz [a well-known (in Dubstep circles) local (to me) practitioner of Dubstep]. His blog is second to none for documenting the music/culture around this 'scene'. Fortunately he manages not just to stay on the scene like a genre-machine, but to note currents feeding in from elsewhere. He's got Echospace/Deepchord/Modell on his radar:

Just done a home visit as part of work - noticed a pair of refurbished Quad electrostatic speakers, ascertained that quad amps and marantz CD player attached and was duly entertained with a brief burst of Bach Cello concertos....sounded bloody great

DeVotchKa and Mychael Danna - Little Miss Sunshine Soundtrack - great collection of tunes with odd, folk eastern european feel.
bitcrush - epilogue in waves
hans-joachim roedelius & tim story - inlandish - really enjoying this one. a few of the tunes have this nice "old" feel to them that I really like.
Roedelius - Wenn der Sudwind weht - also known as the "feet in water" album.  I pulled this one out after listening to the new one.  Track one is one of my favorite songs ever recorded.  I'm sure there is a bit of nostalgia mixed in there but I do love that track.

To me, Roedelius is the ultimate nostalgia music.  It has that old, sepia feel—his early stuff, I mean.  It's a shame so much of it is out of print.

Today:
Neu! '75
Klaus Dinger R.I.P.

Mirror—Eye of the Storm
Bleak and windy.  Perfect for rainy Aprils.

Roedelius—Selbstportrait 1 & 2
This one's quite a rarity, I guess.  I recently sold my spare copy on eBay for over $100.  A shame it's all out of print.

Sola Translatio—Mother Sunrise
One of my fave Hypnos CDs.  Been on a big Alio Die kick with the new album out.

np:   orbital - diversions - such a great remix album... really solid all the way through.

was:  banco de gaia - last train to lhasa - this is another album I can generally toss on and let it spin a few times before bothering to switch discs.

- Willits & Sakamoto - Ocean Fire

An album I find to be almost great. Its stuffed with fascinating & contemporary sonic manipulations, and awash with grainy drawn-out beauty. The thick glitchy opening of 'Sentience' and the warm flow of 'Cold Heat' are worth the price of admission. But some tracks, I feel, become strained and wander a tad too aimlessly and industrially. Neat work though.

Steve Roach - Arc of Passion -- I haven't been this excited about a new Steve Roach album since MCSS. Superb album!

Alio Die & Martina Galvagni - Eleusian Lullaby -- I like this one. It's still not as good as Apsaras, but I find myself listening to it all the time these days. Very beautiful.

devotchka - a mad & faithful telling - like the decemberists meets sufjan stevens meets gypsy folk music. good stuff.
rem - accelerate - still digesting this one, it's very electric.  I really like on or two songs the others are growing on me.
Tonto's Expanding Head Band - Tonto Rides Again - thanks to the quietsounds podcast for turning me on to this one.

Good stuff Antdude  8)

I've been listening to

- Solo Andata: Live in Melbourne

a fasicinating and attractive album of fine minimal 12K quazi-ambient excursions. Lots of guitar.

Got a Hypnos order on Friday:

Austere—Solyaris
Real nice stuff. Kind of reminds me of a lost Fax album (via Shades of Orion) or MLO's Io.  Verrry spacy.  Something wonky with the production (don't have the expertise to put my finger on it, but it's almost like I want to turn the volume down on some parts and up on others; does that make it "unbalanced"?), but I'm really enjoying this.

Busso de la Lune—Stream in City
Broke my CDR ban (as I occasionally do) because I liked the sound samples so much (and, hey, he's Polish  8)).  A little murky in places, but fun.  This one hasn't struck me quite yet, but I need more time with it.  I also bought Hidden, but haven't had the chance to play it.

James Johnson—Entering Twilight
A Hypnos classic.  I'm not sure what happened to my original copy (might have been sold in the Great Ambient CD Trim-Down of '06-'07), but I missed it, especially now with spring coming.  A pleasant dream of a CD.

Entia Non- Fold
Entia Non- Distal
Nunc Stans- Timeless

I'm listening now to the new NIN Ghosts I-IV
and enjoying it immensely. Not really ambient, of course,
but there's some beautiful quiet, sparse pieces
and a wonderful variety of textures and moods.
