Is that actualy what the payment rate is then 1000 plays for $10? If so that is poor. I do recall a Projekt email where Sam said it was 247 plays for one dollar also. Mmmhh not great.

Spotify's payout is not the same for every artist and it has been decreasing.  The artist's payout can be closer to 0.001 per stream if they are signed to a medium or larger label.  Thom B probably gets about 0.005 per stream, so that would be closer to 2000 plays for $10.

Mist costs $5 as a download minus 30% to a major merchant.   So someone would need to stream 700 Mist songs (or the entire album 175 times) to produce the same revenue as an Amazon download.  Streaming the entire album 5x per year for 35 years would pay the same as a download.  This is assuming Spotify's payout rate doesn't change which is a doubtful assumption.

As a young person, I can tell the difference between loseless files and let's say 256kbps or 320 kbps MP3s even before I started making music but honestly, the difference isn't enough for me to convert all my music library to loseless files. Now if you're listening to MP3s at 192 kbps and lower, you're asking for trouble.

Simon Wilkinson - Cryo Sleep Dreams

This is a sampler of excerpts from the album.  Very good ambient space music.  The whole album can be previewed at Bandcamp.

This has come up in my BC feed a few times. On the wishlist but haven't gotten around to it yet.

When I first previewed it, I thought it was just ok.  A brief skip around preview didn't produce anything I hadn't heard before.  I bought it anyway.  Several full resolution listens later, it earned my admiration.  Every song is a keeper.

Alexander Scriabin - The Poem of Ecstasy
Pretty much my favorite piece of music.

The finale always knocks me off my socks. When I heard it live my life was complete, for a moment. :)
As one of the youtube commenters put it: "The vastness of space, the flight of photons, billions of billions of galaxies: its all there in one final explosion of sound."

Some recent listens/highlights:

The Circular Ruins - Pathways

Very impressive epic double album, need to play it again soon. Lots of variety and little details.

https://dataobscura.bandcamp.com/album/pathways

Caelum Bliss - s/t CD

90s female fronted goth rock band from Detroit. I played my old CD recently but there is a reissue on BC if anyone is interested in checking them out.

https://fossildungeon.bandcamp.com/album/1993-1999

Jeff Greinke - Places of Motility CD

I used to think this was one of his weaker releases from the 80s, and maybe I still do, but I really enjoyed it when I played it again recently. Very dark, lots of weird percussive loops on certain tracks.

Veil of Secrecy - Self Titled CD

Solo project of Steven Hall from Yen Pox. For some reason people seem to be unaware that this exists. It's a very good album, though it seems to end abruptly. Love the organic feel of these tracks which seems to be something lost in this type of music over the years.

Legion - False Dawn 20th Anniversary 2xCD

Haven't played this in awhile, forgot how good this is.

https://zoharum.bandcamp.com/album/false-dawn-20th-anniversary-expanded-edition

Ashley Bellouin - Ballads LP

Nice album of minimal drones from a young composer. Fans of things like Terry Riley and Ellen Fullman might appreciate this.

Sleep Research Facility - Deep Frieze (full abum)

This is one of the better Arctic Ambient albums out there.  Similar to Thomas Köner from the  Nuuk era.  A lot of the music in this sub genre tends to get a little carried away with the resonance knob.  This album is glacial and grey, but remains smooth.

I have Legion - Die Datenschleuder on CD.  The jacket is printed on vellum.  I'm guessing he didn't sell many.  Still sounds good 20 years later.  Post industrial apocalyptic dark ambient with death of robots theme.

Bernard Parmegiani - De Natura Sonorum (1975)

Avant Garde electronic masterpiece.  Better than average sound quality for a YouTube.

The link goes straight to an embedded MP3 player.  Good quality stream at 128k because it isn't hosted at Soundcloud.   :P

Jon Anderson - Olias of Sunhillow LP , wonderful .

Steve Joliffe - Journeys Out Of the Body
Mick Chillage - Exulansis , almost 4 hours of absolutely epic ambient mastery . Just checking this out for the second time on Bandcamp . Urgent , if not immediate , acquisition required.

Yeah, I like that one too. I don't have the actual CD, just the FLAC from Bandcamp. Special packaging like that is always a nice touch. I need to check out some of his SETI albums that he's done over the last several years still.

Bernard Parmegiani - De Natura Sonorum (1975)

Avant Garde electronic masterpiece.  Better than average sound quality for a YouTube.

Recollection GRM reissued that on 2xLP. I think you can get the digital version from Bandcamp. I wish I had more Parmegiani stuff. I think I have one other one, also from GRM. Funny story: when I first got the DNS 2xLP I think I played it at 33rpm when it was supposed to be at 45. It sounded good at both speeds.

This one and a couple other SRF albums have been on my wishlist for awhile, just haven't gotten around to them. I liked the Dead Weather Machine albums he did on Manifold years ago. Very different from his other work though IIRC.

I've had that happen a few times.  Start playing a new record on the wrong speed and it still sounds good.  Sometimes they sound better at the "wrong" speed.

I have a few of Parmegianni's works.  DNS is my favorite.
