- Dac Crowell: The sea and the sky

I've always enjoyed Crowell's work. Kinda rich minimalist with repetition.
Thanks to whoever pointed this out a short while back in this thread.

Earlier:

Austere - Pulse

Absolutely awesome,  I listened to this on headphones at a fairly low volume whilst sat down by the sea earlier.   Within 20 mins my mind was some place else totally due to combined effect of the music and the sound of gulls and the waves.  The old adage about "less is more" is definitely true with Austere's music.

Pistolero is a hilarious track in the original short single... humorous voice samples and the guitar is great.   They really watered down both the song elements and the production on Shango for some odd reason - I was highly disapointed with the track on that.   Shango grew on me over time - there are some really great tracks on it that are easy to overlook.

Hallucinogen - I don't think I have a full album, but I think I've got some tracks on various artist releases.  good stuff.

I'll have to give Shango a second chance then. The Hallucinogen In Dub remix album is fantastic. Psychedelic dub/downbeat at its finest.

now playing

- Jeff Greinke: Lost Terrain & Wide View

Uh, Lost Terrain is one of my favorites. Very brooding and melancholic. Love that one!

Played lately:
Celtic Cross - Hicksville -- Really great album by some really great musicians like Youth, Simon Posford and Martin Glover. I've always felt that this one was a little overlooked. It came out the same year as Shpongle's monumental Are You Shpongled? and was probably eclipsed by that one. But it deserves a lot of praise. Posfords usual trickery is toned down a bit here (probably due to the influence from Youth) and gives way to a much more organic and acoustic sound. Beautiful stuff.

orbital - middle of nowhere

I think this is just an ok album from Orbital - preferring their earlier stuff quite a bit.   I rambled on about it a bit this morning on my blog...

deepchord - von schommer - dc15 - minimal dubby deepchord techno.

killing joke - laugh?  i nearly bought one! - an amazing band that's dabbled in a ton of styles.   this is a compilation of stuff from mostly the 80's.

antonio testa and alio die - prayer for the forest - a nice ambient journey

underworld - second toughest in the infants - really good release - not quite up there with dubnobass or beaucoup fish - but very solid.

the clash - london calling - always great.

Murcof: Remembranza

Brilliant album. Preferred over the recent Cosmos ... an album that didn't quite come together for me in the end.

Some of what I've been enjoying lately--

Paul Bradley/David Wells - Heart of Embra (split 3"--not bad, tho a little bit on the short side--1 piece for each)
Ubeboet - Prater EP (another shprt 3"--very enjoyable, parts of it remind me of 'Spectra'; only 25 copies were apparently made; on Con-v)
Joe Colley - Hive (another 3"--of ambient beehive recordings!  It must have getting the contact mics inside of the hive)
Evan Caminiti - Buried Light (limited cassette on Digitalis--heavily processed guitar that reminds me of Maeror Tri in places)
CDs of Turkish guitarists from Barry Cleveland

Always good to see a new Hydrogen Cafe mix...I was just on the site today (before this new one popped up) wondering
where he was.  The last one was posted in January.

Nrvnet and Dave's lowlight mixes are consistently the best ambient mixes out there.

up episodes 17 & 18.  Have only listened to the former so far, a brilliant mix.

Currently listening stuff:

William Basinski + Richard Chartier: Untitled 1-3 (Line) - cross between microsound/lowercase and drone. Engrossing stuff.

Some verbiage[...] The communion of B + C emerges as a felicitous one. B, known for pulling out fragments of heartstring-tug big notes and simple hyper-expressive motifs and looping them on and on so as to transcend mere repetition-nonsense to become quasi-liturgy. C, on the other hand, famed for poking his microscope into those atoms of sound and opening up to wonderment all the protons and neutrons and all the bits and splits below only physicists know. And, it could be said, that here two heads better each one. For in combination, the two act as foils to mutual foibles - Fanciful B and Fastidious C.[...]
