James Taylor - Fillmore East, New York City [1971] - old JT has always been a guilty pleasure of mine.

Jonathan Hughes - Circumflex [atmoworks 2008]

Music From The 21st Century - This is an old album from 1986 that I had on vinyl back then, but now only have the sleeve.  It's a compilation featuring Steve Roach, Tangerine Dream, Richard Burmer, Neil Norman, Michael Garrison, Alex Cima, Don Preston & Bruce Curtois.  It's never been released on cd as far as I know, but I just found an mp3 version on Amazon.  Only 5 of the original 8 songs are on the download version.  But it's still very cool, brings back a lot of memories.  The music is essentially sequencer driven electronic music.  Here's the link... 21st Century

Tangerine Dream - Stratosfear

Why did no one tell me of this group before? It took me years to get to them! At least I have something new to love...

Their first 6 releases are essential listening imo.  You should definitely at least hear Phaedra to compare their early period against music like Stratosfear.  I have a hard time getting into much of their later work so I'm biased (beside Green Desert, Exit and a few others).  Be aware, if you choose to listen further, that the main contributor remastered some of their music.  He overdubbed new sounds over the old recordings.  A lot of fans like the older versions of the albums a lot more, so you might want to search those editions out!

This should be it's own thread really

Also they did just put out a new album, called Booster and it isn't bad!

Last night:
Francisco Lopez - Wind
I was very tired and just put this on in the background to fall asleep with.  It did the trick!  Looking forward to giving it a more concentrated listen in the future.

As Avec hints, early TD has some wonderful treasures but many listeners have been surprised and disappointed by the turn the group took not too long after their best work (the Phaedra era).  Make sure you listen to sample clips before purchasing any TD album after 1977 or so.  There are a few good bits after that date but they are vastly outnumbered works that are very, very different in character and quality from the albums everyone falls in love with.

A long discussion about this occurred in an older version of the Hypnos Forum but unfortunately all those posts were lost.

Yui Onodera - Synergetics I
that 7" is one of the most touching records i have in my
collection .... Side A is sooo incredibly sad and touching
and on the other hand we got Side B, which is the extreme
opposite (uplifting and contemplative)

a true gem :)

Thats a very nice 7, I agree. Id advise that the next piece of vinyl you need, Martin, is this:

Belong - Same Places (12)

http://www.cargorecords.co.uk/release/5876

Currently listening, and its a magnificient long trail of bleached out scuffed-up-shoegaze glazed-guitar fuzz-splendour. Pricey, but worth it for the devotees of this sub-genre.

I always feel a bit disappointed when i visit a website
and i don't see a chance to listen to a small excerpt.
Will try to find a way, and if i dig this, i will see if i
can effort it.

I'd love to buy more Drone Records vinyl, but I wish they had reliable US distribution!

Alan, how did you get the new Belong before the release date?  Reviewers privilege?  ;D

Well, Brian, I know it's naughty, but I picked up a 'leaked' file, via a link. I intend to buy a copy when it comes out, so I don't feel *too* gulity about it ;)

I also found this "leak link" and i also don't feel guilty because i already
deleted the album. Don't like this at all. Nope, sorry. A bit too much of
a rip-off from Tim Hecker and others. And i think the sound is poor.
Way to muddy.

Ah well, there y'go. Different strokes... etc. I kind of feel towards Aidan Baker the way you do about the Belong release, so I guess this is the end of what could have been a Beautiful Relationship  ;)

Oh no. We still love each other, Honey. :-*
Look, what do you think about Apalusa?
Lovely drone stuff, right? We still harmonize,
even we are not on the same page with
Belong.

David Tagg - Waist Deep Seas Of Milk
lovely, right? :-*

Thomas Koner - Zyklop

Very happy to finally snag a copy of this, even if it is a little dinged.  The first disc (a collaboration with environmental sound artist Yannick Dauby) is especially good.

Just got a great batch of music from Hypnos...  still sorting through first listens on most of these:

Sans Serif - Tones for LaMonte
Sense Project - The Sublime
Steve Brand - Bridge to Nowhere
Darkened Soul - Bathys
M Griffin - Fabrications

and also picked up the first two AtmoWorks discs - definitely wanted to see how these translated to disc - and I'm really pleased with how Mike and Lena make these.

Jonathan Hughes - Circumflex
Vir Unis / Disturbed Earth - Drawn from the Well

I finally have a day off during the week.  I've been working 6 days a week for almost 3 months and I'm so burnt out from it, not to mention the "Pitchfork Festival" was this past weekend.

So I'm going to lay in my bed and catch up to some of the music that need deeper listens
Steve Roach - Landmass
Andrew Duetsch - The Sun
Francisco Lopez - Wind
Eno/Moebius et al - Begegnungen

The good old days when I would just sit and listen to an album straight through have dwindled since I left college.  Time to turn off my cell phone and tune out...

And now

- Jonathan Coleclough: One Hour as Sixty Million Years

Solid, gutsy, drone material. Intense, and with strong visual sci-fi associations for me.
