the LOW POINT (ambient/drone/experimental) release thread
Undershadow:
Smallfish like(s) it too:
"Tremendous first release of 2009 for the excellent Low Point imprint. A collaborative work featuring Machinefabriek, Soccer Committee's Mariska Baars and Vance Orchestra's Robert Deters, it uses sculptural ambience and drone to create a convincingly ominous, yet beautiful three track work. Intense atmospheres slowly build and grow with wonderful layering and careful production and you end up with some seriously magnificent textures. The second track in particular is a real favourite of mine and the soft, shimmering, bassy drone is something of a work of art I have to say. Dissonant elements creep in from time to time and the first piece has a slightly more challenging feel than the other two. But, importantly, this is a real listening album and is one to savour when listening on headphone. Brilliant stuff I have to say." http://www.smallfish.co.uk/shop/browse/?aid=20215
(Nice long - i.e. 3-minutes - soundclips on the smallfish site too, without the annoying every-30-second BLEEP that punctuates boomkat's samples)

I’m super pleased to announce that the latest release on Low Point (and my 2nd full length album!) is now available to buy! All the details are below;
LP025 – Gareth Hardwick – Aversions cd
'Aversions' is the second full length album by Nottingham based musician Gareth Hardwick. The origins of the release occurred when a disastrous hard drive crash caused the loss of an entire album’s worth of new music. Disheartened with the thought of having to start afresh, an alternative form of evaluation was set in motion - a way of taking stock before moving on.
For that reason, Hardwick handed over his back catalogue (containing material ranging from split vinyl releases and compilation appearances to limited run cdrs and tapes) to several artists considered close friends and colleagues for them to reinterpret, remix or supplement the original material however they wished.
Although many remix projects often fall into the trap of inconsistency, each remix on 'Aversions' manages to perfectly encapsulate the individual approach and musical style of its artist, while also preserving the integrity of Hardwick's original material. The end result is a unique collaborative album, which manages to flourish from the adverse circumstances in which it was born.

a review of Aversions courtesy of Smallfish Records;
"Right, I've now given this a thorough going over, in the nicest possible way of course, and I have to say that it's utterly brilliant. I expected it to be good featuring as it does Library Tapes, Machinefabriek, Steibruchel, Chris Herbert, Xela, Apalusa and Strategy (as well as the original track by Gareth), but it just totally blew me away and I think it's going to do the same for you. Incredibly refined ambient, drone and minimalism all the way with some awesomely deep tracks and gorgeous textural work. Seriously, this is amazing stuff and if you're a fan of the more relaxed and deep vibe this is pretty much 100% for you. Pure class and highly recommended. Oh, and I have to quickly add that the Strategy mix is just bloody amazing... I can't even class it as any particular style, it's just deeply brilliant."
