Hmmm.... I joined this forum three years ago (almost to the day) - obviously, I don't post much, and I must not read as much as I thought because I've only tonight come across this thread!
So: I'm a fair bit older than the majority here, for whatever that's worth. Born in a mid-Atlantic state (of mind) and spent the first couple of decades in various cities and towns in the Northeast U.S. Currently living in the southern half of Colorado's Front Range.
I've done more types of work than I care to remember - the longest episodes were nearly 20 years in retail record stores, and 15 as an IT guy. Now, all I do is create music and sell off my record collection (anyone looking for obscurities from the '70s and early '80s?).
Started my music "career" as the singer in rock bands (covers and original prog in the '70s, new wavey stuff in the '80s, prog in the '90s, and finished a two year stint in a progressive garage trio last summer). I've been serious about creating ambient/electronic/experimental atmospheres since the beginning of this century. Some of you are familiar with the music from Embracing the Glass (we now call ourselves Sampson-Carroll). I also work with Sara Ayers (we had an EP on Atmoworks for a bit - it's now downloadable from a few places, and we've some new music in the works. Honest!), collaborate with others whenever the opportunity arises, but mostly work on my own. I do play synthesizers, but my voice is my primary instrument - generally lyricless, often looped and layered. I like structured music a lot, and have no problems playing it, but I seem to be the most comfortable in an improvisational setting.
I love science fiction, loathe politics, am stunned by the callous disregard those with the "might" have for those without it. Plain food eater: no meat and easy on the spices. Split pea soup is wonderful.
Glad to be here. The conversations are genuine and thoughtful. The pointers to music I wouldn't otherwise be aware of are very much appreciated.
