What does your partner do?
« on: February 11, 2009, 02:25:39 AM »
I thought I'd start this topic, to show off my clever wife, who writes books amongst other things, such as lecturing at the University of Queensland.

She just won "Best Fantasy Novel" for her book "The Veil of Gold" out on Tor, at the American Library Awards.
yay!  (...any excuse to tell people, i know)

That's great, Mirko. Congrats to your wife for the ALA award. She's a smart lass  8)

My wife is a neuro-psychologist at a local hospital. Brain injury rehabilitation mainly.

My partner, Kathryn Heinze, is an associate professor in the School of Education at the same place where I work, Hamline University in St. Paul, MN. Working for the Center for Second Language Teaching and Learning, she teaches a variety of classes to graduate students who are seeking either teacher certification in teaching English as a Second Language or are pursuing a MA in ESL.

My wife spends all day in an office full of CDs and computers, and runs the Hypnos business operation (mail order, making Hypnos Secret Sounds discs, and so on).  I believe she is also the only Hypnos Forum member's partner who also posts on the Hypnos Forum, herself.

Oh, and Mirko -- congrats to Kim on that award, that's fantastic!

My wife is a teacher, 2nd & 3rd grade.  Here's a recent news story on her class:

My wife is a Clinical Educator/Coordinator for a large Danish medical device company.  She was an RN for years, then got her wound care/ostomy certification.  After a few years of on-the-floor nursing as a wound care specialist, she moved into industry, where she is now.  It's a cool job; she gets to travel 2 or 3 days a week, mainly in the western US, educating RN's on how to use her company's products.  When she's not traveling, she works in her home office - since I work at home, we get to spend lots of time together.  And after all her years of in-the-trenches nursing, it's nice for her to end the day with clean hands.   ;)

My wife was manager of a large commercial real estate company handling mostly historical and older buildings in downtown San Antonio. Unfortunately that ended over 17 years ago when, for a still unknown reason, her heart stopped causing her to go into a coma for 3 1/2 weeks. She emerged with some brain damage due to anoxia. Today, she stays at home with our dog and putters around in her garden.       Harry

After reading my post, I realized that it sounded kind of depressing. I didn't mean that. We are well. It has been over 17 years. My wife and I are happy and lead productive lives. She is very popular with the kids in the neighborhood and there have been at least two incidences where little kids have gotten cuts or scrapes and have have come to our house to have her put band-aids on their wounds. I didn't mean for this to be a thread ender. We are blessed!  :)    Harry

Harry,

I really like where your priorities are in life. If you don't mind my saying this, you sound like you really got your act together and you also sound like a helluva nice guy. And I'm happy (and relieved after your follow-up post) for you and your wife. Just wanted to tell you that.  ;D

Yep, you are welcome to send questions. Just email or message me and I'll pass it on to her.
She has been doing this for many years, so lots of experience in the field.

I agree, Harry's got it going on!
My wife, Lindy is the Executive Director of an arts complex. It consists of a 500 seat theatre, a 2nd smaller theatre, an art gallery and adjoining ceramic, painting and photography studios. Previously she was the Executive and Artistic Director of the Vancouver international Children's Festival. She has been involved in the performing arts all of her life.

My wife works for IBM (Big Blue) in Education and Training.
Her commute is downstairs...the cats love it.
Mine is 25 miles away with ambient CD cascades.

I'm currently unattached but my last girlfriend is a dancer. She's danced her way half way around the world and hasn't made it back.  :-\
Take care.
