Strongly agree with just about all of these.  I can't stand lame attempts to sound/seem hip by people who are trying too hard.

List of words it is not OK to ever say

http://www.listable.org/show/words-it-is-not-ok-to-ever-say

# Brekkie
# Momversation
# Meh
# Fail
# Nomnomnom
# Convo
# Za
# Vajayjay
# Tweetup
# Cooch
# Grok
# Webinar
# Vagisil
# Lifestream
# Tweeple
# Artisanal
# Creatives
# Mock (short for mock-up)
# Funnest
# Natch
# Nosh
# Vaycay
# Staycation
# Flickroonies
# Jiminy

I think just about every time a word is awkwardly shortened (see ZA for pizza on this list for example, or CONVO for conversation) the effect is MEH, automatic FAIL (note ironic use of two words from the list in context).

OK, FAIL was funny for about 3 weeks some time last year, now it's just annoying as all hell, employed as an automatic, smart-ass catch-all dismissive retort by every goofy kid on the internet.

My own pet peeve, limited to the track & field and distance running niche online, is people who refer to the marathon as the THON, as in, "Kara Goucher totally rolled in her THON debut."   Bad enough when used as a noun but when converted to a verb, in place of "to run a marathon," it becomes intolerable, for example "How fast do you think I could THON if I ran a 20-miler last weekend at 6:20 pace?"

Another one that's not on the list that drives me absolutely insane is when young, urban white guys call things TIGHT, meaning they're cool or badass or great or something.  "Yeah, that CD is totally TIGHT," or "Amare's dunk on Duncan was TIGHT, yo" or "Not that I'm gay or anything but Jason Statham kicks ass and Transporter 3 is SO TIGHT!"

Guys who say this tend to make wannabe gang gestures in their Myspace or Facebook pictures, and wear extra-low sagging jeans... another thing I really hate.

I feel better now.   Smiley

Any other words it is not OK to ever say?

PWNED, PWNage, etc. (I am so f%#*ing sick of that). I'm also getting tired of "owned."

(I'm pretty sure I went to school with that "FAIL" kid up there)...

Yeah, that's another example of leet-speak that was amusing for a short time, but has been taken over by dopes.

-WAAAZZZZUUUUUUPPP!!!! (hey I still do it with my wife, but hell no, not in public)
-calling a guy "Beaux"- it's a Southern thing, and it's a little funny in the right context, but c'mon.
-pimped out, pimpin'
-Naddadamean?
-friggin' (for some reason "fricken" doesn't bother as much)
-"oh, shnap!"
-"yeah, I know, right?!"
-Yes We Can - sorry it's run its course.  No you won't say it!   Tongue

I don't mind when people say "LOL" because that's always been short for "laugh out loud." However I really hate when people say "lolz." Like, why the "Z," you're not making a shortened version of something here, you're actually lengthening a shorter shortened word, and it doesn't even make any sense! What does the "Z' stand for, anyway??? To make your laugh plural? You can't do that!   Angry

"Shwag"
"E.D.", stands for Erectile Dysfunction, in fact any disease that's abbreviated on those pharmaceutical commercials.  They make it almost sound cool to have the problem.  Very annoying.  Somehow I doubt "E.D." is going to catch on.  "So, Fred, how ya doin' with your E.D.?"  "Oh, honey, my E.D.'s acting up tonight, I'm sorry".

Ha ha!  Grin

E.D. also stands for "eating disorder," something which is an apparently a really, really cool thing to have these days. I'm always seeing girls on the internet casually discussing their "E.D.'s" as if they're some huge, fabulous achievement, or something... Roll Eyes

I'm so cool and up to date with what is going on around me , that I've never heard any of these words, but I'll probably be using them all in 2 or 3 years.  Wink      Harry

Some more annoying phrases and stupid memes: some of these are newer but are rapidly becoming cliches.  A lot of these began on online games, and have begun to spread rapidly.

1. This thread is 'FTW'  (for the win, meaning it is awesome)
and its opposite 'FTL'  (for the lose)

2. also the habit of signing 'first' in forums, to indicate that you were the first to response....sigh.

3.  'epic fail' is a newer variant of FAIL, that is also kind of silly.

4.  marking a comment, is an evolution on the fail comment too: eg. 1/10

5.  O RLY (usually accompanied by a picture of a seagull)

6.  also, and I find this one quite funny if done well: starting a random conversation with "I'm not gonna lie..."

7.  "do you like stuff"

8.  "can I have your stuff?"

9.  "do you like stuff that is random?"

10.  "kthnxbai"

11.  "unsub"  - which means, get off this game.

12.  "reroll" - no one likes you, change yourself

13.  "hai guise" - a very stupid one, which is just a greeting.
There are others that I can't recall, which I'll post if i think of them.

The thing that strikes me is how many of these WERE funny at one point, and then evolved into being incredibly annoying through massive, widespread overuse.
