Cookie problem with new site
« on: January 13, 2008, 10:59:32 AM »
Mike or another mod:

For some reason, despite the fact I have NOT changed any of my security settings, my home computer needs me to sign in EVERY time I come back to the new Forum. I have the "forever" option checked for keeping me logged in, but even in the same day, when I return, my username and password are gone and I'm identified as "Guest." This didn't happen until 2 days ago (never happened with the old site unless I cleared my cookies). Any idea what I can look for to rectify this? Again, I have NOT changed my security settings (in fact, just now I set a lower setting to see if that will help in the future).

Thanks for any ideas you may have.

Bill

Hi Bill

Try something and let me know the results.

Visit both of these two links, closing and re-opening your web browser between each visit, and let me know which one(s) ask you to log-in:

Bill (and anyone else having this problem), I just changed a server configuration setting that might have been causing the problem.  Though the main link to this Forum (and its correct address now) is www.hypnos.com/smf the Forum itself was reporting its address as 208.131.140.64/smf which was probably causing a problem with the domain under which your cookie was being stored, not matching the domain of the Forum itself.  Should be fixed now, though you may still have to log in manually once before the settings will be properly saved in the cookie file.
